that looked pretty cool.. i hope that after modern warfare 3.. iw goes into the future. but instead of the gears of war/killzone gritty future.. itd be cool to see lasers and fantasy stuff more simliar to halo or star wars.. i think a halo with cod mechanics would do wonders.
okay,i think its time for LucasArts to tell us whats really going on with Star Wars Battlefront 3(or uncancel it if thats the case),because after seeing this,i really want it to come out(and no,i don't want SWBF4 first)
I think that looks quite good! I'd love a Star Wars FPS with the mechanics of CoD4. Lets hope if Lucasfilm do bring the might of their Sith Lawyers upon these guys, they will then at least nick their idea and make a full game of it.
@Ursus-Veritas: Anything would be preferable to the 10+ years of bag-o-shyte 3rd party cash-in's they have been churning out since X-Wing, Tie Fighter and Dark Forces.
I would like to see this in motion first, controls are almost a given to be good...
However i'm not so sure how much do they expect this to sell when they already basicly saturated the market with the first iteration. I mean it already sold TONS.
It also doesn't help that the original with better graphics can be found cheaper than this one is gonna be if they try to charge full price for it.
@Falsoman: Your forgetting that there are still quite a bit of people who have a wii and nothing else. I'm thinking this could easily sell 500k copies if not a million.
For the record, i actually hope i'm wrong on this one. God knows we need more great seller third party games on the wii. I just have a kind of feeling that this is not such a great idea...
However if nothing else Activision has showed us that they can really sell stuff. So what do I know =D
I have to say, the tone of some of these comments disturbs me; mainly the ones saying "hardcore gamers" won't pick this up.
..."Hardcore gamers"? Pardon me if I'm wrong, but I thought that playing games was supposed to be... you know... Fun. God forbid someone *gasps* enjoys a game that doesn't have spectacular graphics or has waggle. It's a shame to me that some on this site must be such snobs about games.
Wow...just...wow. Well, theres certainly a reason why hardcore gamers don't by Wiis. And I think these screenshots demonstrate exactly what that reason is.
So, so glad I sold that piece of shit electronic boardgame simulator.
@PugOfDoom: Right so because I happen to like playing on current hardware, like not getting my games 2 years late and like a console that has a game library, I'm a troll? Good logic.
@randomrawr: No, but why would I want to replay a game that I already completed two years ago, but just with worse graphics and terrible controls?
@uWaAvenger: Mario Kart and Wii Fit aren't hardcore.
@mrryu: Yeah you don't have to get royally owned by me online more like.
@shimage: Where did I say I was a console gamer? Hmmm? Oh, nowhere. Maybe thats because I'm a PC gamer instead. PC invented hardcore gaming.
@AOClaus: So? That doesn't change the fact that it's horribly inferior to the versions on all the other platforms, 2 years late and with dodgy controls.
@Daikotsu: How am I shutting myself out? If you had actually read my post rather than immediately going into fanboy rage mode you would see that I had a wii, but sold it when I realised it was crap.
Honestly guys, it isn't that I'm a fanboy. My first ever console was an N64 and I still love it to bits. The only console I owned last gen was a Gamecube and it was really solid console even if it did lack the library of its competitors. But the Wii is just rubbish. It has the worst games library of any Nintendo console ever, a nasty gimmicky control scheme, terrible online, ancient hardware, no hard drive, the build quality isn't that great (the doors covering the GC ports were always very loose on mine and the cable to the sensor bar was pathetically thin, I kept worrying I would snap the cable) and it doesn't even have an ethernet port. And those are all perfectly legitimate concerns.
The first console this gen I bought was a 360. Then a PS3. The one I wanted most was... shock horror, a wii. And the first time I saw it in stock somewhere, I bought it.
The first console I sold was the 360, the next one was the wii, I still have the PS3.
As a gamer who cares about the product he's buying, who always, quite naturally I might add, wants the best kit for his favourite hobby, I can honestly say that the Wii just isn't for me. I have no issues with the PS3 however, as a PC gamer I feel right at home with it. Good build quality, free online, nice library of games, big hard drive, quiet and powerful. Take it or leave it, I honestly don't care.
@Mancomb Seepgood:
can't believe you didn't own a PS2 , but youre right, the wii is a toy, bot a system. I use it to play bowling with my mom so that she can do something other than work 24/7. For someone like her its great, I don't regret buying it cause SSBB was played heavily + zelda and mario were in heavy rotation but besides that, Ill wait for another year or so before i buy another game. This new COD looks like #1 on PC.
@anduin: My younger brother had a PS2, but I didn't really like it's selection of games, too many JRPGS see? Last gen was when I returned to PC after a break during the N64 and early GC years. I'm an FPS player primarily so PC is easily the best option for me and it's also why it hurts so much to see such a great game like COD4 butchered so horribly.
As for my Wii, I like Mario Kart Wii, but hated SMG and LoZ:TP. TP was just dull and rubbish, the story was utter crap compared to OOT, MM and WW and SMG was horribly repetative. And I don't really like fighting games so I didn't get SSBB.
I'll be picking this up Day 1. Anyone who liked this game should be excited that more people will be exposed to it. Keep in mind, people who only own a Wii won't be comparing the graphics to anything but other Wii games. My friend owns only a Wii and he's absolutely obsessed with World at War. He plays online all the time. I hope this game does well, for Infinity Ward and for Treyarch and I'd personally LOVE to play CoD4 with IR controls.
@LordBling: The conduit is a HORRIBLE example. It's an unknown IP from a developer with a history of shitty licensed games.
We're not talking about a game like that. We're talking about Call of Duty, one of the best selling FPS franchises ever. And this game was developed by Infinity Ward, one of the most respected FPS dev houses in the industry. It's being ported by Treyarch a company who has already released 2 million seller FPSs on the platform. Sorry, no comparison.
The only problem for this game is that it's 2 years old.
@subnet6: You don't have to explain the CoD series to me. I've played plenty of it, and will continue to do so. IW are the best developer working right now, IMO.
I wasn't aware that WaW on the Wii did that well. So perhaps I was wrong, in that SOMEONE who only owns a Wii will buy this game. :) However, a Wii port of a 2-year-old game is a big hurdle to get past. I'm sure Activision saw a hole in their yearly comps that needed to be filled, and since IW had no interest in doing a Wii SKU of MW2, they just option out a port job of a previous game to Treyarch. I'm not interested in the slightest, but I'm someone who owns multiple consoles.
The Conduit was meant to be an example of a 'hardcore FPS' that was a Wii-exclusive. It reviewed well, it has good graphics for the system, and it has a fairly robust online multiplayer. And we all saw the NPD sales on it. Same can be said for MadWorld. I'm curious to see how Dead Space: Extraction will do. But the simple fact right now is, after the less-than-stellar track record recently, no publisher is in a huge hurry to sign or develop Wii games for the hardcore customer. I would consider the CoD series an exception, due to the strength of the franchise as a whole.
@LordBling: The Conduit reviewed well? Maybe for its multiplayer, but certainly not with the single-player ...
But for the record, it has sold 150,000 copies of its 300,000 unit shipment.
And MadWorld is an ultra-violent, not-quite-a-brawler that was quickly derided as being too short and repetitive. I would imagine most folks are waiting for a price drop, or they rented it instead.
@LordBling: "You don't have to explain the CoD series to me. "
Maybe not, but comparing CoD sales to the Conduit sure makes it sound like I do. ;)
I agree, the 2 year hurdle is tough. So if this game doesn't perform well, will you remember that it was 2 years old, or will you use it as an example of how hardcore games don't sell on Wii?
Also, I own all 3 consoles and I beat CoD4 on PS3 a long time ago. I'll still pick this up on Wii for the superior controls. The whole time I was playing on the PS3, I was wishing I could use the Wii mote. Maybe that's just me.
@subnet6: Sorry I don't have NPD.com bookmarked. :)
Personally, I would rather play an FPS with dual analogs than the Wiimote. Well, I guess I'd rather play with a mouse and keyboard than dual analogs too, but I don't have a PC that will run any recent shooters, so the dual analogs will have to do. But you see it as a chance to buy a great game with controls you like. I see it as buying a 2-year-old game that I've already put almost 18 days into, with lesser graphics and controls I don't like. That's really the difference we're talking about. I'd imagine that you're going to be in the minority, but enjoy! For what it's worth, I'm sure it'll be a good port. I just have zero interest in playing it.
@LordBling: Yes, MadWorld did see a price drop. I am certain that it helped sales, as well. Apparently, it was not enough as it has been at least a month or two since it occurred, and Sega would be far happier if sales had shot up to make up for the lowered price.
Instead, we here that the game failed to meet expectations (to be fair, perhaps those were way too high).
Personally, I was lucky enough to grab it for $20 new from a one-day sale at Amazon. I have not played it yet, but I doubt I will feel ripped off in terms of time played vs. cost paid.
@LordBling: All your opinions in this comment are totally justified. Personally, I'm no fan of dual analogs for shooters. They simply don't work well. And when you read developer diaries about it, they even admit it, saying that have to design the A.I. in a certain way, just to accommodate the lack of control in the 45 degree axis, making enemies tend to line up left to right or up to down, or else slow the gameplay to get the same effect. Once you know this and know how to recognize it, it makes dual analog shooters seem almost pathetic. The wii remote has no such limitation and the accuracy is leaps and bounds ahead of dual analog, not to mention the learning curve is much shallower.
But yeah, I recognize that I may be in the minority. There are lot of people raised on dual analog and change is never easy. Who wants to have to change when they've spent years getting used to something, even though that something is obviously inferior.
I remember when Quake II came out and supported use of the mouse. I hated it. I had gotten incredibly proficient using the arrow keys. I didn't want to have to learn a new control method. But I reluctantly gave in and learned to use a mouse. I thought it sucked for quite some time and I was worse using it than I was the arrow keys. But eventually I got used to it and now I can't imagine going back. That's exactly how I feel trying to play RE5 with dual analog after playing RE4 Wii with the remote. I just can't do it. So I won't buy RE5. But you can bet if they port it to Wii, I'll buy it day one. And this has NOTHING to do with console loyalty. I own all 3 and I generally don't care which I play a game on. But if it's a shooter, I prefer using the remote for sure. And if it's RE, I can't even go back.
@subnet6: Valid points. It's all about what you're used to. Making the leap to another control scheme can be difficult. I hated dual analog control, but I adjusted.
The thing I hate the most about FPS on the Wii is the 'bounding box', and how the camera doesn't move while the cursor is inside the box. The Conduit made the bounding box adjustable, which helped, but it would still take a lot of play time for me to get comfortable with it. And since I care more about playing online with my friends on XBL, right now, I'd rather not try to make the adjustment, if you know what I mean! :)
