Played the multiplayer for a bit. It was fun, but the matchmaking was janked.
I don't even know how many time I found a match where it was me against six others. I would leave and look for another match and keep getting thrown into that same match.
@MindPrints: I wouldn't use the Quick Match option at all.
Run a custom match search and then pick the game you want to end up in.
Also, ranked matches have this really neat mechanic that I wish more games would use. It goes like this:
- Host sets up game parameters and starts game.
- Players join at any point, and join any team
- The game is running the the whole time from when the host starts it. Player just run around fighting and playing while waiting for the ranked portion to start.
- When there are enough players, the ranked match starts and teams are autobalanced.
It worked very well for me. No boredom of sitting in lobbies, you get in and just start playing. And then when the match has enough players to make a fun even match, it resets the spawns and starts the game.
I'm quite disappointed with this game, it hasn't lived up to my expectations - the cover system is pretty poor, side missions are a drag and there are hardly any people playing online, and if by some twisted luck I do manage to join a match, the lag renders it unplayable.
Don't get me wrong, you can see the game has been polished up the arse and despite its flaws I did somewhat enjoy the campaign... just not as much as I should have for what I payed.
Gun for the PS2 was, despite its short length more fun than this.
@zackek: I agree, Gun is much better than this game and its predecessor. I played all three and couldn't escape the feeling that the two Juarez games have been a bit overrated.
I did like the side missions though even though they were uninspired shootouts. Can't wait for Dead Red Redemption.
@Komrade Kayce: I am thinking PC only. These types of things generally only come to PC. Few exceptions are Little Big Planet (which was built around creation), Halo 3 (which forge was so-so. Good for quick designs but for fine tuning was just horrible), and the Tony Hawk series or Skate 2 (which is very basic and hard to control item placement nothing more).
But I would like to see them do more PS3 based custom creators since it comes with a decent HDD space in each model and also has keyboard and mouse capabilities, not to mention tons of disk space to put it on. Just a thought.
I'm kinda hoping Luke will update or respond for a quick clarification, COUGH COUGH COUGH LUKE.
Thing is, as is mentioned below, Ubi's thrown an editor into the console version of Far Cry 2. And to call forge so-so... go youtube some insanity. I've never had the patience for it, but for some, its obviously paid off.
@Komrade Kayce: A bit of clarification can make this article either extremely interesting or kinda cool. No doubt I have seen some extreme things on forge but they are time hogs really. When they released sandbox I was at a friends house with 2 system linked boxes trying to make a level. It was chaotic. But the map worked well. By so-so I mean they should really cater to the fact it is on a console. They have no fine tuning options. I hadn't tried the Far Cry 2 editor (I really disliked malaria).
@i38warhawk: I don't get what you're saying here, since "handing out the wrong patch" isn't actually common, and even console games are getting patches nowadays.
@ttk2: Hey whats the expiration date on your computer which is probably already out of date by todays standards?
Honestly, computers need replacing far more often then consoles so thats one of the most dumb things you can bring up in such a context. Assuming you use the computer for gaming.
@Lonesnipa: Ok? i have to ask how you got to that conclusion the console generations usually last 3-5 years. I used to have a dell 2400 with some measly graphics card the computer was about 5-6 years out of date but it played c&c, left 4 dead, portal, warcarft 3 plus many others with no problems. pc games are scalable meaning even low end hardware can run and play most games.
but if i where to entertain the ridiculous idea that a computer is suddenly useless for any sort of game after a 3 year period a computer can still watch movies, download, browse the web, make presentations, record tv, act as a backup server and about a million other things . But a red ringed xbox is completely useless. And even if you manged to get one to last more than 3 years without failing you can not play any next gen games on it no matter how low you are willing to go with graphics.
@Lonesnipa: Sorry, PCs do not need changing out often. If you buy one now and play it till you can't play games with settings on max, then you start turning down settings. And you get more life out of it. "Oh, but on consoles you don't have to turn down settings!" No, you don't, because consoles are already running the games at a low setting compared to PCs.
Look at filtering, for instance. Turn driver level filtering down, and hey presto you gain an immediate boost! And it's just a slider in a menu! Downside is of course that your games start to look like console games... losing the crispness that everything in the scene has. But that's the sacrifice you make for longevity. Don't for a moment think that consoles do not need to sacrifice visual quality to keep their games running at reasonable framerates.
@Lonesnipa: Except, only stupid people believe that you need to upgrade on a yearly basis. My computer is 5 years old and runs Crysis on High at 30 fps.
I don't see your point.
Plus, we have cheaper games, community mods, and less need for accessories and being ripped off Via DLC or ridiculous SKUs and HDD prices.
EDIT: One more thing. FREE GOOD ONLINE. PSN is nothing to XBL and XBL has a price.
And the fact that a computer would do much more than all three of your consoles combined, then it's safe to say that PCs are superior. More bang for your buck.
And by the way, I can play every console game from PS2 and older, free. Our Backwards Compatability is much superior.
------------------
I'm not trying to bring Console gaming down, but i'm sick and tired of hearing all these pointless arguments aimed at PC Gamers.
It's nice to options. We might be outdated in 6 months, but consoles are already outdated the year before.
@Lonesnipa: My 3 year old 8800 GTX would like to have word with you. It still runs anything (short of crysis) maxed out on 1920x1200 (a resulotion console users never gonna see).
But besides that: Games are not only about shiny graphics. They are also about gameplay. Too bad console-only users are gonna miss out on 3 of the best games in the next few years: Star Wars The Old Republic, Diablo3, Starcraft2. Too bad all these games are genre's that never gonna end up on a console anyway.
And tbh that are the only games that pop up in an instant on my mind, there are way more games coming out for the PC that won't be possible on the console because of hardware and control limitations.
Anyway i still enjoy my Xbox/PS3/Wii, a real gamer enjoys every good game there is and doesn't get into stupid fanboy platform wars.
@CustomFirmware: Not to mention working emulators available for almost every gaming platform before the ps2/xbox/wii, and even they have semi-working emulators.
wow, really mixed reviews there. still, the kotaku one pushed me a bit - this one's at the top of my gamefly queue, and if its nearly what theyve said it is, ill be picking it up. again, damn near slept on thsi one waiting on Red Dead.
@Tom Clancy's Samuraidino: Don't you think he meant IRL West. As in, Eurogamer and OXM UK gave it poor reviews, American sites reviewed it more positively?
Fuck you. No 1up is not 'Dead.' It suffered very severe casualties, when UGO bought them up, and left EGM to the flies. 'regrettable as ever?' What crawled up your ass?
And European magazine/websites always score games lower than their American counter-parts. They have 'higher standards.'
I rented this game from Gamefly and it's pretty good. I'm still excited about Rockstar's attempt at their western game, but this will definitely hold me over until it comes out.
Yeah, except those fuckers refuse to put out the PC versions on the same day, or even close to the same time-frame as their console counterparts, and they probably won't put games out on the pc AT ALL anymore, after all the backlash they got from their shitty port of GTA IV.
"The PC market is plagued by rampant piracy" they'll say, when complaining of why their secu-rom infested software didn't sell well.
I'm actually tempted to pick this up, though the ommision of co-op has knocked this from my must-buy list to a "if I see it cheap and I have the spare cash I'll grab it" list.
@exion: Totally agree on this. I went from wanting to get it on the first day to being completely baffled as to why there was two characters and no co-op to mild disappointment to a little hungry to general apathy.
@BubbleF**kingBuddy: I actually enjoyed the first one a lot,it had a lot of great ideas that just needed some Fixing.
The stealth sections as Billy were annoying and very much trial and error, but in a way I think that helped my enjoyment of the game. After having to sneak all the way through an area Id get to play as Reverand Ray and kill each and every one of those muthafuckas that hassled me.

When it worked, it was fun though.
I love sniping in that game.
Just wish there were more people playing this game. #callofjuarezboundinblood

Perfect timing actually. I was about halfway through earning my million dollars of multiplayer bounty when it dropped.
It makes a HUGE difference to the classes in multiplayer.
A couple of the overpowered ones got taken down a notch (Veteran lost secondary guns), and the Spy is at least vaguely usable now.
Hombre is still maybe a little too powerful, but overall the multi got a lot better after the patch. #callofjuarezboundinblood
