<![CDATA[Awesome Gamer Lesbian Wedding]]> Offbeat Bride brings us the story of Anli and Laura — two Aussie gamer chicks who got hitched September 5th in a Portal- and Revolutionary Girl Utena-themed wedding.

Technically, Anli and Laura couldn't legally be wed in Australia, but a friend officiated the wedding and the dresses make it plenty official as far as I'm concerned.

Anli says of the ceremony:

We incorporated lots of geeky details, from the table names (Revolution, Sierra, Katara and GLaDOS) to the choice of music. We also kept several traditional elements such as bouquets, dresses and bridesmaids. However, we both walked down the aisle unaccompanied and skipped the garter/bouquet toss.

And if you think their dresses are fab, check out the cake:

<![CDATA[UK Chain Starts Selling Nintendo DS Cakes]]> UK's Tesco store have started selling New Super Mario Bros. celebration cakes.

The cakes, as you can see, come in the shape of an open DS. It looks like the only edible bit is the bottom part of the cake. The upper screen, it appears, is a cardboard cutout.

<![CDATA[Xbox 360 Avatars Ready To Stand On Your Cake]]> Since there are custom Mii cake toppers, you'd think there would be cutom Xbox 360 Avatar. There are.

Design firm Paul Pape Desgins is creating Avatars (along with sculpted Miis) based on the images users send in. Each 4.5-inch, hand-sculpted cake topper Avatar is priced at US$100. Paul explains why:

My Miis are created from molds I made, and thus their bodies and heads are poured plastic, and all I sculpt is the hair. The Avatars are so varied in their styles, that there is no way for me to mold any part of them, so I will be creating each by hand, starting from the armature up. This allows the customer to tell me if they want a specific pose, unlike the Miis, which are static.

<![CDATA[Eat Cake For The Fat Princess Beta]]> Fat Princess developer Titan has developed a rather novel process for selecting 250 beta testers for the PlayStation Network exclusive title - let them eat cake.

Titan is looking for 250 real beta testers for Fat Princess, meaning folks actually willing to provide them feedback on the title, and all you have to do to qualify is eat some cake. Okay, you have to eat some cake, take a picture with said cake and some sort of PlayStation paraphernalia, and then upload it to Titan's Facebook fan page. The first 250 to follow those instructions will get into the beta test.

Slots are sure to fill up relatively quickly, but even if you don't get in you still get to eat delicious cake, which makes you a winner either way, even if you are a dirty viking.

<![CDATA[Castlevania Cake]]> We don't really write about cakes that often anymore, but this one is pretty amazing. The sides of the cake show a typical level in the early days of side-scroller Castlevania.

Happy birthday Matt!

<![CDATA[Portal: Still Alive Lies Next Week]]> Are you an Xbox 360 owner that didn't pick up The Orange Box when it was released around this time last year? What is wrong with you? No no, it's okay. You'll be able to snag the best of the box next week as Microsoft's Gamerscore Blog reveals the release date for Portal: Still Alive. On October 22nd at around 2AM Pacific, GLaDOS makes her triumphant return to the 360, bringing with her all of the fun of the original title plus 14 Xbox 360-exclusive challenge maps and six advanced maps for extra added flavor. The only question that remains is will there be cake, and will it be the cake of truth this time?

GLaDOS is still alive, and coming to Xbox LIVE Arcade this Wednesday. [Gamerscore Blog]

<![CDATA[Impromptu Disbarment Parties Starting to Pop Up]]> While news of attorney Jack Thompson's disbarment today by the Supreme Court of Florida might have been unhappy news to some...one..., it certainly seems to have become a reason to celebrate for others.

For instance one game developer took it upon themselves to throw a little party to celebrate the day's news complete with cake, cookies and drinks. Yes cake. Right here on Kotaku. Surprised?

Know of any more of these going on? Send pics!

<![CDATA[Eat Fahey's Tattoo]]> Even though I began at Kotaku maybe a little over four weeks ago, I think this is the day I am truly inaugurated, as I post my very first cake picture.

Moxie Girl tipped us off about this Final Fantasy Black Mage/White Mage cake. As I'm weak in the knees over buttercream, normally I'd find this very delicious, but now it just makes me think of Fahey's blood and arm hair.

I feel like a real part of the family now!

<![CDATA[Japan Goes Bananas For New Banana Cake]]> Japan does not like portable caking. Japan freakin loves portable caking. Evidence: the launch last night of the latest portable cake sensation, which drew crowds of hundreds to stores across Akihabara for midnight openings. While it's already been available for years in chocolate and vanilla, and was relaunched last year as a limited edition sponge cake, the promise of a banana cake variation was just too much for the die-hard, with most stores selling out before they could satisfy the midnight crowd, let alone the fresh batch of campers who turned up before regular opening hours.

<![CDATA[Pokemon Christmas Cake]]> This isn't just some random cake post. Oh, no. This is more. In Japan, cake with strawberries is typically eaten at Christmas. The name of this cake? Christmas cake. So clever! So, that's right, you are looking at a Pokémon Christmas cake. Gotta eat it all!

<![CDATA[The Master Chief Cake]]> Kotakuite Brandi sends in this snap of a Master Chief helmet cake made for her husband Aaron's birthday. The cake was made by a local caterer and reportedly looked so good they didn't want to eat it. Once they dug in though, it was discovered that Master Chief actually has Rice Krispie treats for brains. Given his rather bland personality, this should come as a surprise to no one.

Brandi sent this along in an email saying "We thought we'd send some pictures to you guys, if you
still like cake photos." Yes Brandi, we still like cake photos, but we like actual cake even more. Next time, please send cake. And no, this cake is not a lie. (Just thought I would get that in there before someone else did.)

<![CDATA[Portal T-Shirt: The Cake is a Lie]]> Even though I have written about it a lot, I'm still amazed at the amount of in-jokes, memes and products Portal has spawned. Add one more to the list as J!nx comes out with its own Portal "The cake is a lie" t-shirt. It even comes with their own special patented sassy explanatory paragraph:

Spoiler Alert: In general, anyone that promises free moist, delicious cake as a reward should not be trusted. Cake is never free, people. Who in their right mind would ever give cake away instead of hording it for themself? No sane person; that is the answer to that question. If you are thoroughly confused by this shirt, as many of you will surely be, Google is your friend.

The shirt comes in black in sizes SM-4XL. Prices range from $14.95 for the wee sizes to $17.95 for the big boys.

<![CDATA[The Portal Cake Is Real...and Tasty!]]>

Who said the cake was a lie? This user-created movie over on GameTrailers shows a real-life version of the Portal cake and it sure looks yummy. But is it tastier than the Companion Cube cake? It doesn't matter. Just watch the clip so you can hear Jonathan Coulton's great song from Portal yet again.

<![CDATA[The Cake Goes To Portal's Commentary]]> The best part of Orange Box's Portal is, without a doubt, playing it. But the optional developer commentary comes in a close second. For those of you who've played the game but not taken the time to walk through the levels and click on the cleanly-interfaced word bubbles, we urge you to. Consider it the equivalent of a DVD commentary, but with the directors explaining how they subtly manipulated your perception instead of some actor's coke habit. You'll feel like the luckiest lab rat in town. But Portal got us wondering, why don't more games include commentaries?

If the industry wants to upsell us with special limited editions, why not look beyond the Master Chief helmets and DVD documentaries? The same goes for DLC. Why limit the imagination to strategical tactics and bonus missions when content can be offered to enhance a gamer's appreciation of what they already have...requiring less of an investment on everyone's part?

So studios, if you are listening, we want more commentaries. Let us know what geniuses you are, the impetus behind every little spec of bloom lighting. Because while the 10-minute documentaries are nice, why not exploit the interactive model that you already do so well?

<![CDATA[The Weighted Companion Cube Cake]]> Ever since the release of The Orange Box, gamers have gone Companion Cube crazy. There have been wallpapers, a papercraft, myriad fan-art and even a home made plushie dedicated to the little heart adorned box. I suppose it was just a matter of time before someone made a Companion Cube cake and it looks like that time is now. Half-Life 2.net forum poster f1r3b4ll and his significant other baked this tasty treat after completing Portal n honor of the game that has spawned numerous internet memes within it's first couple weeks of existence. Bon appetit!

<![CDATA[The GTA San Andreas Cake]]> This is definitely the coolest (and I think only) GTA cake I have ever seen. I'm particularly fond of the copious use of knick-knacks on the cake like the tiny cars and the fake money. I'm a sucker for an overly decorated cake that uses lots of little toys. The only thing that's missing is some tiny hookers and some blood. It's a well done cake, but despite the subject matter it is a bit on par with something you might see coming out of the local grocery store with the pre-rendered photographic icing. Although, the use of this cake for a four year old's birthday seems highly questionable. Oh, and that sound you hear is the head of certain Florida lawyer exploding.

<![CDATA[Martha's Wii Cake - The Recipe]]> Crecente was completely right about the Wired Martha Stewart Wii cake. My head did explode, and once I got around to shoveling the various bits back inside of my skull I immediately started searching for the recipe for this wonder of wonders. Then I got sidetracked by something shiny and forgot about it completely until Kotakuite Chilly directed me to the New York Post of all places, which has posted the recipe in its exhaustive entirety courtesy of Lesli Heffler of the Sono Baking Company and Café. The recipe isn't easy, and it certainly won't be cheap. The cake portion alone requires a recipe for two 8x2 inch cakes multiplied roughly 24 times. That's over 72 cups of flour, 48 cups of sugar, and 144 ounces of butter. The only thing more staggering than the list of ingredients is the sheer amount of effort needed for the massive undertaking, which is why you won't see me making one of these any time soon. Remember kids, glory doesn't come cheap.
