Portal: Still Alive Lies Next Week
Are you an Xbox 360 owner that didn't pick up The Orange Box when it was released around this time last year? What is wrong with you? No no, it's okay. You'll be able to snag the best of the box next week as Microsoft's Gamerscore Blog reveals the release date for Portal: Still Alive. On October 22nd at around 2AM Pacific, GLaDOS makes her triumphant return to the 360, bringing with her all of the fun of the original title plus 14 Xbox 360-exclusive challenge maps and six advanced maps for extra added flavor. The only question that remains is will there be cake, and will it be the cake of truth this time? More » -

Japan Goes Bananas For New Banana Cake
Japan does not like portable caking. Japan freakin loves portable caking. Evidence: the launch last night of the latest portable cake sensation, which drew crowds of hundreds to stores across Akihabara for midnight openings. While it's already been available for years in chocolate and vanilla, and was relaunched last year as a limited edition sponge cake, the promise of a banana cake variation was just too much for the die-hard, with most stores selling out before they could satisfy the midnight crowd, let alone the fresh batch of campers who turned up before regular opening hours. Pokemon Christmas Cake
This isn't just some random cake post. Oh, no. This is more. In Japan, cake with strawberries is typically eaten at Christmas. The name of this cake? Christmas cake. So clever! So, that's right, you are looking at a Pokémon Christmas cake. Gotta eat it all! -

The Master Chief Cake
Kotakuite Brandi sends in this snap of a Master Chief helmet cake made for her husband Aaron's birthday. The cake was made by a local caterer and reportedly looked so good they didn't want to eat it. Once they dug in though, it was discovered that Master Chief actually has Rice Krispie treats for brains. Given his rather bland personality, this should come as a surprise to no one. More » -

Portal T-Shirt: The Cake is a Lie
Even though I have written about it a lot, I'm still amazed at the amount of in-jokes, memes and products Portal has spawned. The Cake Goes To Portal's Commentary
The best part of Orange Box's Portal is, without a doubt, playing it. But the optional developer commentary comes in a close second. For those of you who've played the game but not taken the time to walk through the levels and click on the cleanly-interfaced word bubbles, we urge you to. Consider it the equivalent of a DVD commentary, but with the directors explaining how they subtly manipulated your perception instead of some actor's coke habit. You'll feel like the luckiest lab rat in town. But Portal got us wondering, why don't more games include commentaries? More » -

The Weighted Companion Cube Cake
Ever since the release of The Orange Box, gamers have gone Companion Cube crazy. There have been wallpapers, a papercraft, myriad fan-art and even a home made plushie dedicated to the little heart adorned box. I suppose it was just a matter of time before someone made a Companion Cube cake and it looks like that time is now. Half-Life 2.net forum poster f1r3b4ll and his significant other baked this tasty treat after completing Portal n honor of the game that has spawned numerous internet memes within it's first couple weeks of existence. Bon appetit! More » -

The GTA San Andreas Cake
This is definitely the coolest (and I think only) GTA cake I have ever seen. I'm particularly fond of the copious use of knick-knacks on the cake like the tiny cars and the fake money. I'm a sucker for an overly decorated cake that uses lots of little toys. The only thing that's missing is some tiny hookers and some blood. It's a well done cake, but despite the subject matter it is a bit on par with something you might see coming out of the local grocery store with the pre-rendered photographic icing. Although, the use of this cake for a four year old's birthday seems highly questionable. Oh, and that sound you hear is the head of certain Florida lawyer exploding. -

Martha's Wii Cake - The Recipe
Crecente was completely right about the Wired Martha Stewart Wii cake. My head did explode, and once I got around to shoveling the various bits back inside of my skull I immediately started searching for the recipe for this wonder of wonders. Then I got sidetracked by something shiny and forgot about it completely until Kotakuite Chilly directed me to the New York Post of all places, which has posted the recipe in its exhaustive entirety courtesy of Lesli Heffler of the Sono Baking Company and Café. The recipe isn't easy, and it certainly won't be cheap. The cake portion alone requires a recipe for two 8x2 inch cakes multiplied roughly 24 times. That's over 72 cups of flour, 48 cups of sugar, and 144 ounces of butter. The only thing more staggering than the list of ingredients is the sheer amount of effort needed for the massive undertaking, which is why you won't see me making one of these any time soon. Remember kids, glory doesn't come cheap. More » -

The Raving Rabbids Birthday Cake
Kotakuite Daniel P. sends in this great Raving Rabbids cake that his wife made for his son Damien's first birthday. The egg shape is very nice, but I wonder what the rabbid is made of? I'm going to go with fondant since it seems that's what all these things are usually done with, but then it is from Germany so who knows what amazing sugar concoctions they may have come up with. Well, whatever it is it looks great and the addition of the 1Up mushroom is a great touch. Happy Birthday, Damien, may you have many years of awesome mom made game cakes ahead of you. -

Mario Cake Madness
University Student, Su-Yin, has put together the Mario cake to end all Mario cakes. Created for a friend's birthday, this masterpiece took three days to make. The Mario figure in the center is amazing and puts it head and shoulders above other cakes of it's ilk. I'll be emailing Su-Yin shortly to see if she can bake me something on the order of Silent Hill. An edible Pyramid Head would be awesome. More » -

The WoW Alliance Cake
Two, count 'em TWO game cakes in one weekend! First we had the amazing Katamari cake and now this great WoW cake sporting the symbol of the virtuous Alliance. Pretty damn impressive if you ask me, especially the sculpting of the lion head and the two flanking creatures. In case you were wondering, everything on this cake is edible. The decorations are made with a sugar concoction called fondant which is extremely malleable, but only for a short period of time and then it hardens and that's all she wrote. More » -

Another Katamari Cake!
It's been a while since I posted a game cake, but this one definitely deserves it. This is probably the best representation of Katamari Damacy in cake form that I have yet seen. I was always fond of that star-like icing decoration. It reminds me of all those character cakes my Mom used to make me when I was a kid. It's a bit of an antiquated style, but in this case , it works perfectly. More » -

The Cactuar Cake
Kotakuite Shaunomacx's girlfriend loves Cactuars. According to him, she eats, drinks and sleeps Cactuars. So, for her birthday, Shaunomacx made her this terrific Cactuar cake! These little anthropomorphic cacti have made an appearance in every Final Fantasy game in one form or another since Final Fantasy VI, so my guess is that the girlfriend is probably also a big Final Fantasy fan. As Shaunomacx succinctly put it in his email, More » -

The Xbox 360 Game Cake
Lucky Kotakuite, Steve, has much to be thankful for. Not only did his fiance' get him a 360, a copy of Gears of War and a "backup" controller for his birthday, she also went the extra mile and made this themed cake to go along with. While it may not be the most technically perfect cake we've seen, it certainly gets points for best original use of candy. The Rolos as thumbsticks are an especially nice touch. -
