@Bubbleman!: if only there was a way to know how many people kept using their $250 toy after they got tired of wii sports or wii fit. They can always just come out with nintendogs wii if they need more sales.
@hatebobbarker: There is trollbait. It's called "The Nintendo Channel" and Kotaku posts updated numbers every single month. And that's only for the 15% or so of Wiis that have it downloaded.

I think the reason why Nintendo is at the top right now is because they didn't take ANY risk at all last year. Unlike Sony and MS who took a gamble on products like zune,pspgo,ps3,windows 7, xbox360. if you look at Nintendo they kept it safe with the usually Wii peripherals and the new DS which is basically the same thing as an hold DS. Theirs nothing wrong with doing this since they saved a massive amount of money on hardware, I'm no expert but im pretty sure the DSi and the Wii are pretty cheap to produce.
The Wii was the biggest risk. When you come to a fight with a rock and your competition has boulders with DVD Players, HD Graphics and online capability, you better believe you took a risk.
In fact you took a risk that paid off so great that now your competition are trying to get their own rocks.
@GreasyRibs: Ummm... How are the PS3 and 360 remotely like the risk the Wii was? Also, don't know if you've noticed. but the PSPGo ins't exactly amazingly different to this PSP 3000.
Hyundai would have ranked higher, but they've been plagued the past two years with control and steering problems that have limited the ability of their ships. They have neither the accuracy or the fidelity that was expected, so captains around the world are looking to alternative products.
They will most likely gain market share this holiday season, though, with the release of Ocean Motion Plus, which will finally provide the steering and navigation capabilities that the company promised back in 2006.
@Man in the mirror: Publishers? You mean the ones making money hand over fist on the Wii?
Like Sega, who's biggest selling game in it's whole 30 year history is on the Wii and even without massively high sales, reports they are pleased with it?
Or EA who's only more profitable game other then their Wii releases would be their Madden and other sports titles?
Even Capcom's pleased by their games. You speak of Spyborgs, it's a bad game. Not Nintendo's fault.
And given the NPD lists, the lists for the UK and Japan over the last THREE YEARS, I'd say the consumers are pretty happy too.
Even shovelware makers like Ubisoft are in love with the Wii, it's almost a given that the profit from Wii titles is funding development for other systems.
So do you have any real facts to back up your statement or would you rather keep that foot firmly wedged within your maw?
Sigh, ok, then. No point in arguing about prifits here. Spyborgs is bad an awful game (but I don't know why I didn't think it was bad as the reviews stated maybe I'm squizofrenic or too iconoclast and don't believe in stabilished authorities). Wii makes money. my DS makes money. I got both. Maybe it's the best console ever, and I am the only one who only played Punch Out and House of the Dead Overkill, while thinking why a game like super metroid isn't on a nintnedo console, but a microsoft one. You're right, no one's complaining or frustrated with the wii. That's why the PS3 sales risen up lately.
Ok, so in order to rate the best company in the world we consider "2008 sales and international sales percentage." What about job security? Employment benefits? Sustainable development? Social aid? No wonder why the planet is in one of the worst economic crisis.
@timedward: "A commitment to innovation, diversified portfolios, aggressive expansion, strong leadership, and a clear vision for the future—these are just some of the strategies employed by the best companies to get to the top of the World's Best Companies/Global Top 40 list compiled for BusinessWeek by management consulting firm A.T. Kearney. Two groups stand out: technology and telecommunications companies that have tapped into continuing demand for mobile-phone service and new digital hardware and services, and heavy industry and engineering outfits benefiting from the uptick in infrastructure spending. Have a look at the numbers behind the companies on this list."

Then why the hell is Ninty on the list, they themselves and the Wii represent none of those things.
@Foxstar is in love with Kotaku's two Brians.: Nah i do, i just don't see how any aggressive expansion has occured through their product line up bar maybe wii fit, they defienitely haven't diversified their portfolio, innovation is arguable since motion control has been around for a while now, and i don't see a clear vision from future. I like Ninty but those aren't qualities i would say they shine with.
So it is making a profit that makes you a good company, and not bending over backwards to give people expensive bleeding edge technology that does it. Good to know.
Personally I like it when Nintendo doesn't do well. When there back is to the wall, that is when they make amazing new IPs. They have been extremely lazy in their own game developement. There just sitting back and counting the money.

Thank you Nintendo. The video game industry would not be where it's at without you.

They sell their console at a profit even though it uses outdated tech.
They actually expanded the market for videogames, which is something MS and Sony could never accomplish in today's world.
Yeah, they're #1. Get over it.

needless crap like HD or online play.
Hilarious. Online play is nothing to be afraid of, you know. People don't bite through the interwebs. Really, they don't.
They sell their console at a profit even though it uses outdated tech.
I'm not so sure they need to be patted on the back for that part...
But otherwise yes, Nintendo is probably busy right now playing real life Mario Kart in their Lamborghinis.

Consumers and publishers? Not so much.
I wish that I could see the developers ractions over the reception of Spyborgs...
