Our favorite lawyer friend (who shall not be named lest he arive in a puff of sulfurous smoke) makes an appearance as well. Who's at number one? It might not be who you think, but I'll say it's a classic character who isn't human. Any guesses?

<![CDATA[ EB Games Prices Are Insane ]]> While the prices you find on the used shelves at EB Games and GameStop generally follow no logical pattern whatsoever other than the whimsy of a man in an office somewhere who was never played a video game in his life, this one is just ridiculous. It's bad enough some of us paid $3.99 for the Burger King games, especially now that they've dropped down to $.99. Now EB comes along and wants to charge double original retail price for a used copy of Pocketbike Racer?

Does this make sense to anyone? Did a conversation with someone in head office end with, "Look, I'm busy...just pick a price, dammit!"? Kind of makes you wonder how much they trade the games in for though, doesn't it?

The Hushed Casket is reporting that Burger King has dropped the price of their bizarrely popular games from four bucks a piece to less then a dollar, complete with photographic evidence. One commenter on the site wrote in saying they purchased the games without even having to buy the food. Truly a blessing if there ever was one.

<![CDATA[ Burger King Profits from Your Pain ]]>

Burger King has published its quarterly earnings report today, reporting an $11 million rise in net income over this time last year. The leap is being attributed to the 360 video game promotion, which spurred sales as gamers flocked to chain restaurants to pick up the three King-based titles, presumably being unable to find a sharp enough stick to poke in their eyes instead.

The promotion had me going to Burger King for the first time in years, all for the sake of three relatively abysmal game offerings that creeped me out much more than they entertained. They might have gotten the exact same results had they advertised "Massive car wreck with bodies laying about at every store," which would have the added effect of making their food just that much more palatable.

<![CDATA[ Burger King Games Rival Gears Of War Sales ]]> While games like Gears of War may sell based on quality (and hype), branded shovelware like Sneak King, Big Bumpin', and Pocketbike Racer sells on price. And close proximity to Whopper Jr. value meals.

According to the Burger King corporation they've sold over 2 million copies of their games-as-advertising series starring the King, Brooke Burke, and the Subservient Chicken. Best of all, they know what they've got on their hands. Chris DiCesare, director of Xbox partnership marketing, said of the games:

We're elated that our effort to pair two iconic brands has succeeded in providing Xbox owners with a fun diversion this holiday.

That's right. Diversions. How humble. Hey, I'm not knocking it. I've even got a shrinkwrapped copy of Big Bumpin' lying around here somewhere. Full release after the jump.

BURGER KING(R) Xbox Games Are Best-Selling Collection of 2006 Holiday Season

More than 2 Million Games Sold Nationwide at BURGER KING(R) Restaurants in Four Weeks

MIAMI, Dec. 20 /PRNewswire/ — Released on Nov. 19, more than 2 million BK(R) Xbox games have been sold in just four weeks, joining the ranks of other top-selling Xbox 360 titles such as "Call of Duty 3" and "Saint's Row," making it the best-selling collection of games published for the Xbox/Xbox 360 platforms this holiday season.

All three Xbox games in the collection — "Pocketbike Racer," "Big Bumpin'," "Sneak King" — are available at participating BURGER KING(R) restaurants, for a limited time only while supplies last, for a recommended price of $3.99 per game with the purchase of a BK(R) Value Meal.

"We created the BK(R) Xbox games as a unique form of all-family interactive entertainment, and we're thrilled with the response thus far," said Russ Klein, president, global marketing, strategy, and innovation, Burger King Corporation. "Most video games are considered a blockbuster when they reach the 1 million mark in sales, and this collection has achieved twice that, thanks in part to the great value for the money and convenient holiday stocking stuffer appeal."

Compatible on both Xbox and Xbox 360 platforms, the BK(R) Xbox Game Collection is based on some of the most popular video game genres — racing, action and adventure — and rated "E" for everyone. The three BK(R) Xbox Live-enabled titles blend the popularity of BURGER KING(R) brand icons, such as the King and Subservient Chicken, into visually rich, three-dimensional environments that give players of all ages an entertaining, interactive experience on one of the most popular video game platforms in the world.

"Consumers have come to expect the unexpected from Burger King Corporation so their appetite for these games is not entirely surprising," said Chris DiCesare, director of Xbox partnership marketing. "We're elated that our effort to pair two iconic brands has succeeded in providing Xbox owners with a fun diversion this holiday."

Developed by Blitz Games, one of Europe's largest independent video game developers, the three games feature exciting multi-player opportunities via Xbox Live, as well as "achievements" and other aspects of
gameplay that Xbox owners know and love. For more information on the BK(R) Xbox Game Collection and Xbox Live tournaments, please visit http://www.bkgamer.com .

Burger King sent out this surreal photo this morning showing the King doing a little fist-shaking after delivering a smack down to New York Jets linebacker Jonathan Vilma in Pocker Racer on Tuesday.

What the photo doesn't show is Vilma responding by tackling the King so hard that his head shot off and a stream of greasy Croissandwiches poured out of his neck. At least that's what I like to image happened next. I wonder if Vilma ate one?

Burger King takes another bold step towards winning the hearts and wallets of gamers everywhere as 8 exclusive Dance Dance Revolution toys start showing up in restaurants across the U.S. today. If this doesn't spawn a creepy dancing King commercial I will be utterly crushed. The promotion will run through December 31st. The toys include a spinny glowing thing, shoelace noise markers, a DDR dancer figure, a water bottle, a sound mixer, and a flash band for your wrist. It's the BK Mini-Raver Meal!

First mini Activision games, then the infamous Xbox games, and now this. Burger King wants the gamer demographic so hard. If only they had partnered with Konami earlier we could have had Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater meals. Mmmm, Japanese flying squirrel burgers.

<![CDATA[ Two Atari 2600 Adver-Games ]]>

Lest the ghastly, ghoulish visage of the Burger King leering creepily from the cover of an Xbox game fool you, adver-games are nothing new. In fact, they are so old, they go back to the Atari 2600.

For example, Johnson & Johnson Presents Tooth Protectors: The Video Game or Purina's Chase the Chuck Wagon...

As B&B&P&S says:

...think about how embedded games were in the 80's when a dog food company is able to put out a specialized game ONLY available via postal mail.

Of course, not all adver-games suck. Nerf Arena Blast was pretty dang fun, and I do have a soft spot, for whatever reason, for Yo! Noid.

<![CDATA[ BK 360 Games (Officially) Announced ]]>

What do hottie Brook Burke, the Subservient Chicken and the King have in common? No, not porn. Xbox 360 games.

After threatening to sue us for breaking the story months early, Burger King has finally come clean and spilled the dirt on their upcoming line of Xbox and Xbox 360 games due out this holiday.

The games will give you "control" of The King, Brooke Burke and Subervient Chicken in three arcade-style games. The games include an action, title, adventure title and racing title and all three, sadly, are rated E for Everyone.

Each game will sell for $4 with the purchase of a value meal and will be on sale from Nov. 19 through Dec. 24. Hit the jump for the two other frightening box shots as well as the official description for the three games.

Update: I've added the screens from the games here.

sneak-king.jpg

"Pocketbike Racer" (Racing)
— Welcome to the wild world of Pocketbike racing where players race the King and his miniature motorbike crew through five fun, yet challenging speedways. Each track varies in level of difficulty and players navigate long straights, tight bends and sharp turns at high speeds while attempting to earn enhancements and tools that they can use to gain an advantage over opponents. Featuring HAVE IT YOUR WAY customization options, players select a bike and a driver and then hit the track of their choice — a BURGER KING restaurant parking lot, a construction site, a backyard, the King's garden or the fabled Fantasy Ranch set. In addition to individual play, four players can race against each other in classic split-screen set-up or eight players can battle it out online using XBOX Live.

"Big Bumpin'" (Action)
— Big Bumpin' looks like a traditional carnival bumper car ride and features familiar BURGER KING icons, including the Subservient Chicken and Brooke Burke. But, there's a catch - Big Bumpin' arenas come with some big hazards, like surprise saws, bottomless pits and "power up" items that let gamers dole out thundering bumps. With several different types of game play, gamers have a chance to hone their bumper car skills in a variety of challenging scenarios. The game features theme parks, including the "Ice Box," "Broiler," "King's Court," "The Deep" and "Monsoon of Doom," and three modes of play for each - intense four-player and XBOX Live-supported. Easy to learn. Fun to play. Difficult to avoid a major crash.

"Sneak King" (Adventure) — Only the King can turn an everyday act into an art form and now players can step into the King's royal shoes and use cunning stealth to sneak up behind unsuspecting people and bestow them with a delicious meal. The goal of Sneak King is to surprise hungry citizens with BURGER KING sandwiches and other menu items throughout the day before they pass out from hunger. Whether in a logging yard, construction site, suburban neighborhood or downtown urban scene — each rich with detail and hidden pathways — players can hide out and earn points based on how elaborate the delivery is executed.

<![CDATA[ Head to Hungry Jack's, Get Mario Key Chain ]]>

Just like "Victoria Bitter" means "water," "Hungry Jack's" is Australian for "Burger King." Nintendo of Australia has teamed up with the Ozzie eatery to help celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Super Mario Bros. and is giving away character keychains with Kids Club Meals. Customers get a choice of Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Princess Peach or Donkey Kong and also are entered into a draw to win a DS Lite and a copy of New Super Mario Bros. Doesn't Peach look totally pissed off? I kinda felt that way when I realized Hungry Jack's even tastes like Burger King.

Thanks, Obee

<![CDATA[ More Details on Burger King Games Hit ]]> king.jpg

Well, well, well, what have we here? Reader Scott stumbled upong an interesting and official Q&A about Burger King's Xbox Video Game Collection. The thing looks to be directed at Burger King employees and is chock full of msoft misinformation, backhanded insults directed at the PS3 and some interesting mark-up figures. There's also a tidbit in there about BK putting DDR toys in their kids meals.

According to the Q&A, Microsoft will develop three games for Burger King. The games will sell for $3.99 with the purchase of a value meal. Don't get too excited about these branded games, according to the Q&A they will be "delivered in Xbox and Xbox 360 compativle formats on one disc." I'm not sure if this means it's one game that plays on both systems or they managed to cram two small games on one disc.

Even more interesting, at least to me, is that BK will also be running a Dance Dance Revolution promotion at the same time. It sounds like there will be toys of some sort, which just kicks ass. The DDR stuff will be hitting on Dec. 4 and run through the end of the year. It's unclear when the games hit, though the first official documents are suppose to hit store managers this week.

Hit the jump for some HI-larious excerpts from the Q&A. I love the bit about how all consoles to the 360 and that Msoft expects to sell 22.1 million consoles by the end of the year.

Hmm, I wonder if we're going to get another cease and desist?

Why are we selling video games?
BK Xbox Video Games have a strong and long-lasting branding effect for BURGER KING . Customers playing the game interact deeply with the BK brand and its key icons and discuss the game with friends, colleagues and family. This represents an enormous "advertising value" for BK in terms of consumer impressions - never before achieved with any SLO in our category.

Why is Microsoft's Xbox the right partner?
The Xbox 360 is the hottest gaming platform, delivering next generation graphics and game-play unmatched by any competing console.
Microsoft estimates a household penetration rate of 22.1 million (consoles) in the U.S. by Holiday 2006.
BK Video Games are endorsed and developed by Microsoft's Xbox , providing instant consumer credibility and authenticity to our collection.

What about other game consoles?
Other game consoles have not been updated in five years.
The current Sony Play Station 2 has been on the market since October, 2000 and is technologically inferior to the Xbox .
Sony's next generation Play Station 3 had originally been scheduled to launch in spring 2006, but analysts estimate that due to supply issues, the launch will be delayed to fourth quarter of 2006 or even as late as spring 2007. (Source: www.gamespot.com). With a fourth quarter '06 release, penetration of the Play Station 3 platform would be insufficient to support our BK Video Game proposition.

What is the expected franchisee mark-up per game sold to consumers?
The program delivers approximately $1.00 mark-up per unit sold to BK franchisees (based on the delivered to Restaurant price) at the 6.8 million unit system quantity when sold at the recommended retail price of $3.99 (subject to Show of Support vote). If the minimum system order of 6.8 million units is not obtained the expected markup could be less than $1.00 (based on the delivered to Restaurant price).

When will franchisees break even?

Franchisees may break even when approximately 73% of their video game stock is sold.

What is the recommended order quantity?
Burger King Corporation forecasts sales for this program at a minimum of approximately 900 units for the promotion (5 weeks) or a minimum of 180 units per week, per restaurant. If your experience leads you to believe that you will sell a minimum average of 180 BK Xbox Video Games SLOs per week, per restaurant, then you should follow this recommendation.

What is the recommended price to consumer?

The recommended consumer price is $3.99 with the purchase of a Value Meal, including a 20-25% franchisee mark-up. This price point has been validated by BKC's consumer research and is pending the Show of Support results for this promotion.

How many games does the collection have?
Three games from the best selling genres make up the BK Xbox Video Game Collection.
All games are delivered in Xbox and Xbox 360 compatible formats on one disc, and come in Xbox 360 retail packaging.
One new game will be delivered to restaurants every week during the first three weeks of the promotion, and all three titles will be available during the last weeks of the promotion.

Is there going to be a BURGER KING Kids promotion in restaurants at the same time?

There will be a concurrent BK Kids promotion in restaurant featuring Dance Dance Revolution premiums based on the musical video game series.
The premiums are themed to dancing, music and gaming, which follows the interactivity of the property.
The Dance Dance Revolution kids program will be at BURGER KING restaurants from December 04 to December 31, 2006.

Turns out that despite all those breaking into people's homes, running across football fields and trying to shove people off high rises, the King isn't as cheerful a guy as one might suspect.

The General Counsel for Greenfield Online, the company conducting a survey about Burger King possibly creating some next-gen King-infested video games, was the opposite of delighted to learn that we were sent the information along with concept images.

The GC of GO (for BK) claims we are violating the intellectual property rights of Burger King and demands we remove the images and text post haste.

We're not taking down the post, but we will take some of those scrumptious breakfast sandwiches the King has been peddling. We'll gladly trade in our claim of Fair Use for a bag full of delicious sausage Croissan'wiches.

<![CDATA[ Burger King To Sell Xbox 360 Games? ]]>

Hamburger flipper Burger King is considering a promotion that offers 3 exclusive BK-branded games. Each would feature their own characters (in this case, the actual Burger King) in "popular" genres (fighting, action and racing). The action game is apparently similar to Halo, while the fighter combines Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat. Just tack on a "with hamburgers," and you get the drift.

Marketing research company Greenfield Online sent around a survey regarding the plan apparently and leaked some mock-up and concept images for the proposed campaign. Still in the conceptual stage apparently, the titles would go for US $4 and be compatible with both the original Xbox and the 360. This all makes sense as BK has already jumped into in-game advertising feet first.

But, four bucks for a 360 game? With the Angus Cheesy Bacon Steak Burger going for US $3.69 and Oblivion asking US $59.99, one of them is overpriced.

Concept artwork after the jump.
