Of course not! Come June 12th, European gamers will be able to get their hands on their own MGS4 bundle, complete with PlayStation 3, SixAxis controller, and of course, a copy of the game. Not the most exciting bundle really, but hey, it's a bundle allright. The pack will be priced at 439.99 Euros, perfect for any fan of the series who managed to hold out on picking up the console until now.

A Snake-Skinned Package with Real Veno

London - 6th May 2008: One of the legends of the PlayStation® generation has taken his partnership with the platform to the next level. Solid Snake, the hero of the Metal Gear Solid® (MGS) franchise, is, this summer, being bundled with PLAYSTATION®3 and a SIXAXIS controller offering millions of PS3 and MGS fans around the world the ultimate gaming combo.

Concluding Hideo Kojima's Metal Gear Solid saga, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is set in a battle-scarred future where huge conglomerates fight for supremacy using armies of hand-picked mercenaries. This devastated world is seen through the battle-weary eyes of an older Solid Snake who has been charged with infiltrating a number of key locations across the globe, including the Middle East and South America. As such, the epic end to Snake's story offers ground-breaking combat elements, a refined control system that offers unprecedented control over the aged hero, and the tying up of key plot lines and loose ends.

Similarly, the accompanying Metal Gear Online features all the stunning stealth and combat elements of Guns of the Patriots, as it drops the player into a series of war zones and game options. With all-out 'Last Man Standing' battles to rescue and protection missions, Metal Gear Online effortlessly transfers the sublime control system of the series to an online competition, creating an absorbing battle between like-minded fans.

Available from June 12 and priced at 439,99 Euros this offer is one of the most exciting bundles to date - bringing two great servants of the games industry together for the conclusion of what has been one hell of a ride!

<![CDATA[ Metal Gear Solid 4: The PS3 Bundle: The Cardboard Box ]]> Here it is, folks. The PlayStation 3 bundle with Metal Gear Solid 4 shipping in June with product photography proof. It might not have been our choice—we'd have gone with a stealthier plain brown box with the words "The Orange" on the outside—but we don't know from product marketing. We'd also have gone with a better camo choice, perhaps Snake in "piano black" with the Spider-Man font emblazoned in a full body pattern. I'm sure everyone else will find it just peachy keen. Here's hoping that Japan's got something extra special planned for collector types.

<![CDATA[ New PS3 Bundle Coming To Australia ]]> PS3-2.jpgWhile this has nothing to do with a larger hard drive, Sony will be offering a new bundle in Australia that includes a 40GB PS3, second Sixaxis controller and one of the following games: Heavenly Sword, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction or NBA 08 all for $799.95. Wow, that's looking a LOT better than the original $1000 PS3 launch price that Luke had to put up with.

<![CDATA[ 80GB PS3 Not Dying, But Being Reborn Bigger? ]]> Ars Technica's Opposable Thumbs has a Sony mole who has filled them in on some potentially juicy gossip. According to the insider, Sony will not be dropping their 80GB PS3 to abandon a two-model retail approach, but instead upgrading said higher tier model to better differentiate the products. In this scenario, the 80GB PS3 will see a bump to either 120GB or 160GB and include a Dual-Shock 3 controller—but still run $499.

Feel free to comb over the source text with a fine-toothed comb:

Sony is, in fact, phasing out the 80GB PS3. Sony is going to stay with the two-SKU approach though, and the prices look to stay the same....The Spiderman 3 pack-in will disappear as well once the 80GB unit is gone. In order to maintain a similar value proposition to the 80GB/Spiderman 3 bundle, I expect to see a storage increase to 120 or 160GB at the same price point, plus the new Dual-Shock 3 controller...
Hopefully this doesn't imply that Sony is evolving to a strategy without movie/game bundles with their consoles (which we'd doubt) . Because when Sony was generous enough to allow customers to install their own hard drives, it would seem like a waste to only use hard drives to differentiate their PS3 products (I mean, what's one rumble controller, really?).

And for those who don't know, Ars publications are highly respected in the technology industry. So that's why you'll see the internet taking this one pretty seriously.

N'gai Croal reports that Sony will start selling a $40 version of Warhawk in stories later this month. The $40 version, matching the price of the download-only version available on the Playstation Network, won't come with the Jabra Bluetooth packed in that comes with the $60 version of the game.

The $40 version will go on sale starting Oct. 10, according to GamStop, but Sony reps were only able to confirm the price and not the date to Croal. This could be a new pricing strategy for Sony, though I think it would make more sense in the future to release both a bundle and a non-bundle at stores on the same day rather than waiting to start selling the game-only version at stores.

<![CDATA[ Elite 360/HD-DVD Bundle On Amazon ]]> Well, it seems the bundles are just coming out of the woodwork today, but this one you can actually grab right now. Amazon is currently offering a pretty decent package for a great price. The offer includes an Xbox 360 Elite System, the HD DVD player, a copy of both King Kong and 300 (HD DVD versions of course) for $599. Plus as an added bonus, a seperate mail-in offer will net you another five HD-DVDs for free. Of course the selection is terrible, but you can always sell them I suppose. Considering the cost of the Elite and the player alone come to $630 this is a pretty sweet deal when you add the 2 free movies, the mail in offer and free shipping. Who could ask for anything more? Well, maybe you could ask, but I doubt you'd get it.

<![CDATA[ New 360 Double Game Bundles Discovered ]]> Yesterday I got an email from a fellow who said he had found an image of a holiday bundle for the 360 and as there wasn't much more information available, I put on my Sherlock Holmes hat and got to work. After some rummaging about, I was able to turn up not only the Elite Bundle, but one for the Pro system as well marked as eventually being available in the US. The bundle will include the system and it's accessories plus two games, Forza 2 and Marvel Ultimate Alliance. These images were discovered on a website Microsoft uses to market their products and while there was no pricing information available, the Elite image was clearly marked as "Xbox 360 Elite Holiday Value Bundle." Judging by the name, one can assume that this will be the Xbox's bundles available for the upcoming Thanksgiving/Christmas shopping season. Unless of course they are saving it for Flag Day, which means we won't see it till spring of next year.

<![CDATA[ PS3 80GB on Sale Now, 60GB Going, Going... ]]> Sony Computer Entertainment of America reminds us that today's the day you should be able to walk into a store and pick up the new 80GB Playstation 3, complete with a copy of MotorStorm.

The $600 PS3 seems like a decent deal to those who have been on the fence about buying the console, what with the larger harddrive and a free copy of a relatively solid game. Of course you could just buy the 60GB version for $100 less and then buy the game of your choice and have money left over to put toward upgrading the PS3's harddrive on your own, a relatively simple endeavor.

Sony points out that they expect to be sold out of the 60GB version by this fall, based on current consumer demand.

Hit the jump for the full press release, with a remind of all of the cool games coming to the PS3 in the near future including Heavenly Sword, Folklore and Uncharted.

Sony Computer Entertainment America Announces Availability of New 80GB
PLAYSTATION(R)3 (PS3(TM))

Million-Selling Online Racing Game MotorStorm(TM) Packed In With New System;
Sales of Existing 60GB PS3 Continue to Surge

FOSTER CITY, Calif., Aug. 6 /PRNewswire/ — Sony Computer Entertainment
America Inc. (SCEA) today announced the availability of a new 80GB
PLAYSTATION(R)3 (PS3(TM)) at online and brick-and-mortar retailers in the
United States and Canada. The system, available immediately for a suggested
retailer price of $599US/$659 CND, comes with the hit online-enabled off-road
racing game MotorStorm(TM) packed in the box.
Featuring an expanded hard disk drive, the new 80GB PS3 is designed to
appeal to the online gaming and entertainment enthusiast, providing ample
storage space to download more games and other entertainment content from
PLAYSTATION(R)Network. There are currently more than 60 playable games and
game-related downloads available through PLAYSTATION(R)Store, with expanded
entertainment content coming soon. The new model features the million-selling
game MotorStorm in the box, allowing up to 12 players to play online at one
time, hitting the dirt in this visually-arresting, fast-paced racing title.
"The 80GB PS3 offers expanded options in the PS3 family of products for
those who want to enjoy more downloadable content," said Peter Dille, senior
vice president of marketing, SCEA. "The new model will provide ample storage
space to meet the appetites of those who wish to download content today, and
for many more years to come. With the expanded disk capacity and dynamic
system upgrades, we have effectively created a system that is 'future-proof',
providing consumers an exceptional entertainment value that will stand the
test of time."
The 80GB model joins the existing 60GB PS3 that has been available at
retail since launch last November. The 60GB PS3 is currently enjoying a surge
in sales following a price reduction in the US and Canada on July 9 of $100 to
$499/$549 CND. Since that date, unit sales at the company's top five
retailers have jumped 113% when compared to the average sales of four weeks
prior to the price drop. SCEA will continue to sell the 60GB in the US and
Canada at the new, reduced price until current inventory is depleted, which is
predicted to be this fall based on current consumer demand.
Throughout the holidays and this fiscal year, more than 120 new first and
third-party software titles will be available for North American PS3 users to
enjoy, in addition to the more than 40 software titles currently available.
Key upcoming first-party titles include Folklore(TM), Heavenly Sword(TM),
LAIR, NBA '08, Ratchet & Clank(R) Future: Tools of Destruction(TM),
SingStar(TM), SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation, THE EYE OF JUDGMENT(TM),
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, PAIN, and Warhawk(TM).
Both the 80GB and 60GB PS3 models come standard with Cell Broadband
Engine(TM) (Cell/B.E.), built-in hard disk drive, 1080p high-definition
output, Wi-Fi connectivity, SIXAXIS(TM) wireless controller and Blu-ray
Disc(TM) player. According to Nielsen VideoScan, there are currently more
than 270 high-definition Blu-ray Disc(TM) movies available at retail,
including the recently released "300," "Shooter," and "Ghost Rider."

So, what is it? Are we looking at a future hardware revision? Will Microsoft be selling an HDMI output cable this holiday? We were tipped about one popping up on Gamestop the other day for a cool $80, shipping December 1, but it has since disappeared.

Yes, I saw the FYE bait and switch video. ToysRus pulled a quick one on us too. After waiting 5 hours in line for my preorder, I found out on launch day that I was required to buy one game and a 25 dollar warranty. <![CDATA[ New Outpost Bundle Half as Awesome as Promised ]]>

Previously, our resident hermit, Eliza, mentioned she would be venturing outside (the first time in months) to purchase a pretty sweet Xbox 360 bundle that includes a Premium Console, Saint's Row, Dead Rising and Test Drive Unlimited all for US $359.96. Sweet enough to make even the biggest agoraphobe venture over to their local Fry's Outpost and pick it up. Eliza, included.

Well, Eliza just pinged me (she's an insomniac as well) to let me know the deal is lame. It's still pretty good, but ripe with the bad aftertaste of suckage. The Fry's Outpost website now lists the bundle as $449.99. That's not nearly as good as promised and very, very lame. So lame that Eliza is now on the fence—not just about buying it, but leaving the house.

<![CDATA[ Rumor: New Xbox 360 Bundles Coming ]]>

A Gizmodo reader tipped us off to more bundles coming to the Great White North due to hit the great state of Canada this November. According to our retail insider, these bundles are:

  • Core Package bundled with Project Gotham Racing 3 and Kameo: Elements of Power
  • Premium Package bundled with Amped 3 and Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter

No prices were given, nor were any solid release dates, but our tipster did let us know that we should expect more black Xbox 360 info very soon. Our northern neighbors may want to hold off on any rash Xbox 360 purchasing for a couple weeks until Microsoft or your local retailer provides more information.

Those of you in the continental United States? Ask grandma to snag you one when she crosses the border for her cheap prescription medication.

<![CDATA[ Rumor: G.R.A.W. 360 Bundle Coming Soon? ]]>

Well, the Wii is now breaking a long-standing tradition against game pack-ins for console sales. Unfortunately, their pack-in sucks (trust me on this). Luckily, Microsoft is one-upping them.

Starting September 30th, a new 360 Premium bundle will arrive, featuring Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter and the XBLA arcade pack, featuring Geometry Wars Evoloved, Bejeweled 2 Deluxe, Wik: Fable of Souls, Hardwood Backgammon, Outpost Kaloki X and Texas Hold'Em.

You do need to take this with a grain of salt: this isn't Microsoft confirmed yet. It's only according to Clubskill.com... dead certain as they sound, better off keeping yourself zipped until Microsoft says something. But if this is true, this is just a great deal.

<![CDATA[ Saints Row Bundle Headed to Yurp ]]>

Karsten from Shizzle Games points out that Microsoft is listing an Saints Row Bundle on their official press site for Europe.

The bundle, which includes the premium system and the game, will be released on Sept. 8 for 439 Euros. Right now it's only showing up as coming to France, but chances are it will be hitting the rest of the continent too. When the hell is the US getting a bundle, that's what I want to know?

<![CDATA[ The Japanese In-Store Xbox 360 Bundle (DoA Included) ]]>

Thought Canada and Mexico were the only places with special 360 bundles? While Microsoft put its Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval on the Canadian and Mexican PGR Xbox 360 bundles, retailers in Japan haven't been so lucky. Microsoft Japan hasn't been so lucky. While there have been victories, like Bullet Witch selling out at many retailers, the battle continues to be an uphill one. Here, Akihabara shop Aso Bit City offers Dead or Alive 4 as a "starter set" for a mere US $302 (34,800 yen). The bundle should go for US $419.20 (47,985 yen) and comes with a wireless controller, an HDD and DoA. There's only twenty of these special bundles, so act quickly indifferent Japanese consumers!

Thanks, Paul

<![CDATA[ Huge Xbox Bundle For US $38,000 ]]>

Alright moneybags, have we got a deal for you! One hundred factory sealed Xbox 360s for the bargain basement price of $38,000. Forget that down payment on a new home or buying that sports car and open up a shop that only sells the new Xbox. The bundle's shipping alone is $2000. At that price just think how many 360s you could buy...

<![CDATA[ The Last Pre-Lite DS Bundle? ]]> AnimalCrossing_Totakeke_640.jpg

Gamestop lists an Animal Crossing: Wild World DS bundle. The $150 bundle may be the last DS bundle and is probably the last DS bundle we'll see before the Nintendo DS Lite. Gamestop lists the Wild World bundle as having a March 1 ship date. The big question is, what color will this DS be?

Thanks Andy

<![CDATA[ Dell Accessorizes Xbox 360 ]]> A0561503.jpg

Imagine hitting your parents up for a Dell computer as you prepare to go off to college and then throwing in $680 in accessories. Now imagine if those accessories were, in fact, an Xbox 360 bundle. Seriously, I wish they did this when I was in college.

The bundle includes the HD pack, an extra wireless controller, a play and charge kit, a year script to Live gold, PGR 3, Madden 06 and Kameo. Not bad.

Oh, and they seem to actually have them in stock and will even finance at about $21 a month forever.

Weeeeee, at that monthly price, I almost want to buy a second one.

<![CDATA[ Microsoft Considered Post-Xmas 360 Launch ]]> Steve Ballmer told the Ottawa Citizen that Microsoft had considered delaying the launch of the Xbox 360 until after Christmas, but decided against it despite expected shortages.

Here's the relevant quotes from Next-Gen, who seized them from the OC.

"In these new consumer electronics devices based on new chips, there's always the question of what yield will you get out of the manufacturing process of the new chip. We're getting a little less, but not much less than the yields we expected, and we know that the yields we expected will probably outrun supply."

"We decided to go ahead and launch rather than wait until post-Christmas and get a few million units out into the hands of users. We're doing our best."

"We are making more. All stores are getting new units each week. Can we make as many as people want? The answer is no, but not because we don't want to."

Now if they could get retailers to honor their pre-sales instead of trying to do more high-price bundles, things might be OK.

<![CDATA[ Best Buy: Sorry, So Sorry ]]> P-R-Best Buy Front.jpg

Did you come away from your Best Buy campout spending hundreds of dollars more than you wanted because some idiot manager made you buy a bundle? A lot of gamers did. Over at Mercury News, Mike Antonucci touched base with Best Buy corporate and they assured him that Best Buy "will accept returns or exchanges for any unwanted Xbox 360-related purchases." The complete, official statement Antonucci got out of corporate is after the jump. Fight the power!

Best Buy's Response to Xbox 360 Bundling Complaints [Mercury News]

"We are aware of instances where Best Buy employee action was inconsistent with company guidelines for promotional activities surrounding the sale of Xbox 360. We will accept returns or exchanges for any unwanted Xbox 360-related purchases. In addition, we have taken appropriate measures to ensure this situation will not occur with future Xbox 360 promotions. We extend our sincere apologies to our customers."

<![CDATA[ $400 Bundle Xbox 360 Remote is Smaller! ]]>

Size matters. We got word that the $400 bundle's remote control is smaller than the regular retail version. The limited-time only remote provides easy access to the 360's multimedia functions. Being smaller also improves the remote's ability to get lost between sofa cushions.

(No, the remote in the picture is not to scale.)

<![CDATA[ Mario Kart DS Bundle Coming? ]]> Rumor has it that a Mario Kart DS bundle is heading our way just in time for the big post-Thanksgiving sales. The bundle will hit on Nov. 28 and come with a copy of the WiFi enabled Mario Kart DS and a DS in a brand-spanking new color: Hot Rod Red (Basically an eyeball searing red.) The bundle will also include a checkered wrist strap and some sweet stickers so you can customize your DS with flames, numbers and other racing images. The whole thing will sell for a cool $150, so save up those clamshells.

<![CDATA[ Mario Party 7 Super Bundle ]]> mp7.jpg

Nintendo's trying something a little different this time around with Mario Party. You can pick up a copy of Mario Party 7 on Nov. 7 for the retail price of about $50 or pony up another $50 for a pretty decent bundle.

The Mario Party 7 bundle comes with the game, two controllers and the Gamecube. (That's worth about $175 if you were stupid enough to pay full price for all of it.) Copies of the game also come with a microphone.

Mario Party 7 includes 80 mini-games and supports up to eight simultaneous players this time around.
