Um...transferring your character from one game to the next was pretty much a given from the word "go". They've stated it before, and there would be no point in having the player customize and build upon the alignment of the character if they weren't going to be bringing said character into the next game. I'm rather surprised people aren't aware of this.
Maybe I'm wrong here, but wasn't it confirmed way back that we'd be able to carry over our characters from Mass Effect into Mass Effect 2? I really hope so at least, I'm not done with the game yet (got really frustrated with it the first time I tried playing it, couldn't get into it, etc...but now that I've restarted it and I'm playing it right, I've really become hooked) but I'm already attached to my iteration of Sheppard and accustomed to how I've made him play. It would really be a shame to have start the sequel with a new character...
@Katoejoe: Yeah, I'm kind of amazed that this is worth mentioning since it was stated even before the first game came out that you'd be able to use your character across the entire trilogy.
The biggest mistake they made was being too proud to yank the character creation system. I don't care how cool their NPC generator was, you couldn't make anything half as good looking as the premade Shephards. Everyone I have ever talked to has wasted 2 hours trying to make a good looking main character only to give up and go with the premade characters. That is a terrible way to kick off a game.
@jlarimore: Well, I had a bald, tall black man who kicked ass and look very good, and a thin blonde girl with a pretty skin tone and a tough attitude. I'm proud of their looks, even if they are not exactly what I intended to create.
In Mass Effect II I'll try to create Alison Lohman/Kirsten Dunst again. Maybe I'll be luckier this time.
Was I the only person on the planet who didn't like Mass Effect? The fights in that game kicked my ass. Probably because I was trying to play it like a shooter and not an RPG.
Still, being able to reuse your old character is a pretty good idea, I think.
Holy shit! ME2 news! Yeah I've heard off this before.
Hopefully I can load my Sniper-man into ME2...I expect the clipping and the long-ass loading to be resolved as well. The installation process should rectify that no?
I just hope the planets aren't that barren anymore.
@excaliburps: And while they're at it, they can make their inventory system at least somewhat interesting. All the different guns are just different coloured skins and most of the models were useless. It became a chore to deal with your inventory.
I loved Mass Effect, and I was fond of my character even though he has been lost forever.
Got a question though, does it become a near unplayable mess in the end for anyone else? Or was my 360 just a piece of junk? I got to the end and everything just slowed to a crawl during fights that I never even finished the game.
@Penchinon: I never had a problem, but I had it installed to the hard drive when i played through it, so that would probably clear up a bit of the texture pop in/loading issues...
You should really finish the game though...last couple of fights on the outside of the citadel are awesome =D.
I do hope they let you bring your character over though, I loved my evil biotics/tech/Sniper Rifle character >=)

add more functionality!
add a mic-enabled Captain's Log that saves .MP3
add working levers and switches.
add vanity items like hygiene stations.
(yes, I'm a nerd.)
I own the PDMG 747 and I want Bioware to really improve their ship in ME2.

But jlsrimore has a point, the normal Shepard looked far better.

At least you are smart enough to know what the problem is.
It's worth learning because at the higher level your character kicks ass. It's also wise to play as a soldier if you want to play it like a shooter.

The fights in while in zero G on the side of the Citadel were epic. Blasting guys with the shotty and watching them float away was the best.
Also, convincing him to kill himself was awesome too.
+1 for Charm.

Anyway I thought they announced a while back they wanted characters to be transferable throughout the trilogy?

Yeah, i'm quite sure this is not new news.

But Bioware has promised something like this before, but not been able to do it yet. Let's see what happens.
