This month, it's announced that he's not (for the time being).

Ratner has shelved plans to adapt God of War, leaving the project to fester in Hollywood development hell.

Instead, movie trade mag Production Weekly the X-Men: The Last Stand filmmaker is moving forward with comedy Trump Heist.

Starring Eddie Murphy and Chris Tucker, Trump Heist follows a group of con artists who land jobs at Donald Trump's Trump Towers so that they can swindle its residents.

Trump Heist finds Ratner on terra firma, re-teaming with Rush Hour star Chris Tucker and far away from previous Guitar Hero movie flights of fancy.

<![CDATA[David Jaffe Talks God of War, Brett Ratner, Kotaku Commenters]]>
Earlier today, Brett Ratner, director of the barely tolerable Rush Hour series and the miserable X-Men: The Last Stand, confirmed that he'll be helming the God of War flick if and when the picture gets the greenlight. The reaction online has been, well, yeah.

God of War designer David Jaffe has posted a video of himself addressing the reaction. Hey, Jaffe likes that X-Men movie Ratner made. It was entertaining! And he does remind everyone that Ratner is surrounded by intelligent, talent people so all is not lost. And when not pointing out the difference between Brett Ratner's X-Men (popcorn!) and Bryan Singer's X-Men (meaty), he offers a retort to Kotaku commenters who aren't so thrilled about the Ratner picture.

<![CDATA[Guess Who's Making A 'God Of War' Movie?]]> This guy! Brett Ratner! According to the man himself, a God of War movie adaptation is one of the projects he's currently working on alongside a new Beverly Hills Cop flick and [Unintelligible]. The director of the barely tolerable Rush Hour series and the miserable X-Men: The Last Stand says that the PlayStation hack and slash adventure-turned-movie is "waiting for the scripts and greenlights to come in" so don't start camping for your place in line just yet.

It already sounds better than that ill-conceived Guitar Hero movie adaptation, despite Mr. Ratner's track record. We're just interested to see how a game with this much violence and gratuitous nipple on display will nab the much desired PG-13 rating.

<![CDATA[Brett Ratner Must Have A Brain Injury]]> Hey, Brett Ratner. A Guitar Hero movie is the stupidest idea we've ever heard. Nobody would want it made. Movie-goers, gamers, studio executives, actors, nobody. Not even Activision, who have told the deluded Hollywood director that, no, thanks, they're not interested in him turning the series into a film. "I'd really like to do it, but they're not letting me...I expressed my interest, but because it's such a success, it's like now there's no reason to make a movie about it", Ratner told EW. No, Brett, there was never a reason to make a movie about it. Let it go.

<![CDATA[Brett Ratner's Guitar Hero Movie Idea Sounds Crappy]]> Hollywood director Brett Ratner (X-Men: The Last Stand, other tripe) has a dream. He wants to make a Guitar Hero movie. Listen to what Ratner has to say:

I love Guitar Hero and I think it’s a part of pop culture. I would love to do a Guitar Hero movie, if Activision would ever let me. I’m trying to convince them, but why would you have a movie screw up such a huge franchise? Not that I would make a bad movie. So that would be cool, to do a Guitar Hero movie.

We're pretty sure that Brett Ratner never sets out to make a bad movie. Shit just happens, you know? For those still interested in what he has to say (masochist much?), hit the jump for Ratner's plot idea:

It could be about a kid from a small town who dreams of being a rock star and he wins the Guitar Hero competition. One of these dreams-[come-true] kind of concepts.

So tell me again why Brett Ratner doesn't have an Oscar yet.

<![CDATA[Is This God of War Brett Ratner Confirmation?]]> Those early rumblings just might be true. Back in May, rumors swirled that filmmaker Brett Ratner was directing the God of War movie. In a MGM press release for the new RoboCop movie, there's this bit of info:

David Self’s credits include 13 Days and Road To Perdition. He wrote God of War for Universal, to which Brett Ratner is attached to direct, and was a writer on Universal’s Wolfman currently in production.

That press release is obviously incorrect. It should read: "He wrote God of War for Universal, to which Brett Ratner is attached to direct and fuck up."

<![CDATA[Brett Ratner Wants To Make Video Game Movies, Too]]>

Move over Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski. Rush Hour franchise helmer Brett Ratner wants to make movies based on video games, too! His interest seems piqued after working on a few ad-type spots for Activision's Guitar Hero. According to Ratner:

The games business is much more exciting than the movie business right now. I will be doing movies that come from video games.

Cue line about Hollywood unable to make good game movies.
