EQ may want to look at the comments section of this post and evaluate their product's relevance in the game market. The ratio of things said about the woman to things said about the game is high, even for Kotaku.
By far, one of the best episodes of On The Media involved the original EQ model, and a conversation that (with Captain Subtext's Helmet of Truth activated) went a little something like this:
INTERVIEWER: So, how do you feel to be the masturbatory object for hundreds, possibly thousands, of pasty faced geeks?
MODEL: I'm a model, jerk, I'm used to it already. Besides, you NPR wimps are a lot closer to those geeks than I'll ever be.
many people always ask for a classic server, but never specify what kind of classic server. if you mean classic in that its just the original game plus the first 2 expansions, thats doable, if a bit boring. after all, theres no vah shir, and no vah shir = boring.
if you want a more "true" style classic, where the bugs are recreated, and all the things that theyve fixed to make EQ a better game are removed, then you arent getting it. True classic will never be replicated, partially because the code is just gone.
if you want a similar experience to the old content, you might get it, but nostalgia cannot be recreated. Even if a classic server is built, everyone will already know everything since allakhazam is just as easily viewable as it would be on a normal server. you'd know the best places for xp, you'd know the strategies for the raids. and even if you didnt, other people would. the glory of the old game was that noone knew anything, and everything was a new experience. i wont get my first nagafen experience back, and i dont expect to get it back.
That being said, im still supporting a time based progression server, where theres a period between 3 and 6 months between expansion releases, allowing people plenty of time for their "classic" era (9-18 months give or take) and then gives something for people who want to see Luclin, PoP, etc when theyre current and more difficult.
This month theyre supposed to be doing a poll for a new ruleset server, for a server launch in march or april. whether classic or progression are on the list, i have no idea. we can only hope
