Tip of the iceberg. This site has a massive catalogue of other bootleg, Chinese homebrew carts, nearly all of them based on existing game series or movie tie-ins. Link to the Past on NES? Got it. A Lord of the Rings 2D fighter? Got it. Super Mario World on Mega Drive? Yup. A Titanic platformer for the NES? Got that too, and it's amazing.

<![CDATA[ Scary, Scary Mario Bros. Bootlegs ]]> One Hong Kong retailer gives us a taste of just what Mario and Luigi would look like if Miyamoto went mad and decided to co-brand the franchise with Nightmare on Elm Street flicks. Seriously, these plush toys are freaky—we're talking clown freaky, or even Cher's cheeks no longer move when she talks, freaky (people still listen to Cher, right?). Plus, we're finding it more than a little gross that the curtains don't match the nose drapes, if you know what we mean.

Thanks Andy, sorry I called you Jason!

<![CDATA[ Get Your Ninetudo DS Accessories ]]> ninetudoadapter.jpg Two summers ago, a friend of mine went to mainland China for a vacation - unluckily for her, she forgot her DS charger in Taipei. Fearing she'd have to go a day without checking in on her Animal Crossing village, she didn't realize that the wonderful world of Chinese bootlegs would be coming to her rescue: the Ninetudo DS power adapter! Those jokes about the Sonya PS3 didn't seem so far-fetched. Wonderland posted this photograph of the actual article (from a Flickr photostream by Crys) - so if anyone's stranded in China with no DS charger, fear not: it's Ninetudo to the rescue.

<![CDATA[ These DS Bootlegs Are Chinese for "Crappy" ]]>

Don't criminals take pride in their work anymore? Geez, with shoddy labels like that, you'd have to be Amish to think these DS cartridges are real. And even then, that's a stretch. These faker than fake bootleg DS games have surfaced in China and are on a slow barge to your nearest used-game retailer.

Before that, they'll definitely show up on eBay for you to bid on, insert in your sexy DS Lite and totally screw it up. How can you be sure the cartridge wasn't made in some backwoods cabin by a troop of barefoot children? GameSetWatch points out:

Another sure sign of a counterfeit DS game is the numbered code on the bottom of the label. SZGD-20011-A888 is not a Nintendo DS product number. Nintendo DS numbers begin with NTR (a leftover from when the DS was code-named 'Nitro') and end with a region specific acronym, either USA, JAP or EUR.

But, even then, can you be sure? Like sure-of-your-own-existence sure? So beware, take care and only buy new DS games. Brand new ones. On launch day.
