At the end of my interview with Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima last week, I asked the renowned game developer about the desire of many of our readers for him to make games other than Metal Gear.

It's been years since Kojima attached his name to projects like Boktai or Zone of the Enders, and while he may have a supervisory role on the next disc-based Castlevania game, he's been consistently making Metal Gears for most of his recent career. Up next for him are two more: Metal Gear Peace Walker on the PSP and Metal Gear Rising on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

As I reported last week, Kojima said this about the topic of expanding his horizons beyond the adventures of Snake and Raiden:

"Not only the Kotaku readers but I myself am interested in doing something besides Metal Gear," he said. "But, right now, I am working on Peace Walker. Eventually, after the project is done, I might think about it."

He joked: "If you write that 'Kojima-san doesn't have to make Metal Gear any more' every day on Kotaku, and write to the CEO of Konami and tell him that, then it might be easier for me to make non-Metal Gear games."

It's not like the Metal Gear games that Kojima is still making are bad or anything. The new PSP one actually seems to be very good. But since the publication of my Kojima story on Friday, at least 45 readers have written the sentence "Kojima-san doesn't have to make Metal Gear any more" in the comments section to that post. I promoted the comments to make them easier to see.

So just remember, if and when Hideo Kojima announces that he's making a game that isn't Metal Gear, you'll know what caused it. That said, we won't be publishing that sentence every day here on Kotaku. The point has been made.

<![CDATA[Kojima Moving On From Metal Gear Solid, But To What?]]> Metal Gear Solid series director, producer, and writer Hideo Kojima has long planned to let loose the reins to the Metal Gear line, but it appear he may be finally moving on. A recent report on Japanese web site Nikkei BP, by way of IGN, reveals that Kojima already has designs for a new game that doesn't feature Snake on the hunt for nuke deploying robots, but what it is hasn't been revealed.

Kojima, who has overseen development on original Konami franchises like Zone of the Enders and Boktai, may talk about what's on deck for Kojima Productions, but not until after Metal Gear Online gets a "major push." That's according to Konami president Fumiaki Tanaka, who says the company is also working on reviving some of its classic franchises.

I've got a zillion dollars on an HD remake of Martial Champion. Who wants some of this action?

<![CDATA[DS Game to Use Magnetic Fields]]>

Insert Credit is scaring the bejeebers out of me.

They report that a new brand of toys in Japan called Treasure Gaust will be heading to the DS. The game uses natural magnetic fields, much like Barcode Battler used retail barcodes, to create monster for virtual fighting.

The game, which one would hope will hit the states one day, sounds like a blend of Pokemon and Boktai with a touch of
Wicca thrown in for good measure. I'm sure that's not going to bother any of those anti-gamer types at all.

<![CDATA[TGS06: Lunar Knights, Not Just For Scandinavian Kids]]>

I sat down with Kensuke Yoshitomi yesterday to talk a bit about Lunar Knights, Kojima Productions upcoming sequel of sorts to the GBA franchise Boktai. After showing up embarrassingly late, we got down to rapping about how glorious the Nintendo DS is.

The DS version is drop kicking the solar sensor for a very specific reason—kids in Scandinavia complained that they couldn't play the game due to lack of sunlight.

Kojima himself told Yoshitomi that he was concerned about towheaded boys and girls to the ultra-north getting their vampire slay on and that they should make a new game. Fortunately for them, the solar powered gimmickry has been dropped, in favor of blowing into the microphone, stylus shmupping, and 2D role playing.

I hadn't really given the game much consideration until we started talking, but it's starting to sound like a must have. Interviewing developers is easy, but when genuinely nice guys show the coolest aspects of their games it's often hard on the wallet.

<![CDATA[Kojima Wants To Work With Wii]]> Hideo Kojima's certainly been a constantly spurting font of news and opinions this E3. Although his deal with Sony for the Metal Gear Solid series is signed on parchment made out of the creamy skin of a newborn babe, with a specific clause indicating that his soul will go screaming into the netherworld if he breaks contract, Kojima is still apparently very interested in developing for the Wii.

From an interview with Next Generation:

"As a game designer, it really is the game hardware that I want to work most on," he admits. However, don't expect Solid Snake to be making his rounds on the Wii.

"The way I look at the Metal Gear Solid series is that it's made for the PlayStation platform, and through the years, people have expressed how much they love the series on the PlayStation platform, so if I was going to do a game on Wii or on Xbox 360, I would do a completely different game, not Metal Gear Solid."

Fine with us, although we doubt Boktai's going to work on the Wii either.
