    @DigitalHero: I remember the TV cartoon though, which was also pretty painful. Pixar might not be able to pull it off without a bunch of inside jokes about the princess being in another castle, Yoshi shooting eggs, etc. The plot isn't exactly deep...

    You make it deep. The Pixar writers are amazing, they could have added something. Look at Wall-E, that could have been horrible.

    @DigitalHero: I think part of the reason Pixar does so well is because they create their own universes to work with rather than being constrained by (lets be honest here) a pretty shallow one.

    Oh man, I completely disagree with this, the super Mario bros movie was fantastically awesome, if you don't mind how horrible it was. Point in case; Army of darkness, one of the BEST movies I've ever seen, and at the same time, one of the worst.

    Am I the only one who feels that as a game adaptation, it fails but as just a goofy sci-fi movie, it's pretty awesome? I mean, once you remove the Mario adaptation out of your mind, the movie is pretty damn good for what it did. Adapting a story about plumbers who beat up mushrooms and turtles is hard and what they did with the script is pretty admirable.

    @Phazonmasher: Yeah, really. I understand people's disliking of the film, but in my view it wasn't as horrid as everyone claims it to be. As a movie itself, I like it.


    And let's be realistic for a second, why the FUCK would anyone make a movie about Mario that isn't cartoons if they wanted to keep the "source material" intact?? The SMB movie would've sucked way more if it would've been an hour or so of Bob Hoskins running in a 2D-3D plane of vision jumping on shit. Would've been boring as hell.

    @Phazonmasher: I actually enjoy the movie, even with the Mario references and such. It's a decent movie to just lazily watch and enjoy, almost any kid who sees it thinks it's great fun, and outside of somehow "ruining" Mario (damn, failed at that eh?, Mario's still going) it's an amusing take on the franchise.


    Some of the elements and visuals are still enjoyable and the humour is often endearing enough.


    It's just one of those things that people hate because it's the "cool/right" thing to do.

    When I watched it when I was little, I liked the movie.


    And Megadeth made a song for it, automatically making the movie one of the best things ever.

    @NaeemTHM: I was going to post that article. I agree with most of the points of that article. It's terrible, but in the same way that Evil Dead is terrible... A terrible classic. No other way of putting it.
