    I've never played the new monster hunter...but as a huge cat lover I'm always a little uneasy when I have to fight cats in a game. Animal abuse in general is something I have trouble with in games. And yes, I know there may be some kind of irony in that I take glee in headshotting a crapload of human beings but flinch at shooting an animal, I get it.

    @Mister Jack is Stalking Konata: look at it on the bright side, at least for the rest of the game you will have feline buddies that follow you in battle, live at your place, cook for you, take damage in battle to help you... uhm... yes there might actually be some kind of animal abuse in there, cat labor doesn't sound right.

    I'd love to get into a Monster Hunter game, but I'm not sure what they play like. Can anyone give a quick description?

    @MooglesInMyFace:You go out on quests with very large weapons to kill even larger monsters, carve them up, and use their parts to make even better weapons. It's all realtime combat, almost entirely based on player skill(there are no experience points or levels or anything) and it can be extremely difficult at times. You can play with up to 4 people locally or, if you have a PS3, you can use software from the Japanese PSN to play online.

    Imagine Harvest Moon meets Final Fantasy meets Turok meets [insert fantasy MMO] meets Diablo meets Cooking Mama.

    That's what MH is.

    It's hard to describe MH as it's a very "unique" game with elements from a bunch of different genres and games.

    I suggest you to download the demo on PSN.

    @Mister Jack is Stalking Konata: Just use Xlink Kai. It's basically the same thing but unofficial and doesn't require a PS3.

    @Mister Jack is Stalking Konata: It is supposed to hit the NA PSN at some point, but Sony seems to be taking their time doing it for whatever reason. I thought it would hit when MHFU came out since they made a point of stating that MHFU would work with it but I guess they had better things to do.

    There's also something called Xlink Kai or something that lets you play ad hoc PSP games through your PC, but I don't know anything about that.

    Anyway, I'd go with MH. I work at GameStop, and we've been seeing a lot of people return FN:R4, not even a couple of days after getting it. To me, that tells me something is wrong with it.

    @iEro-Sennin:

    I've seen people train their cats in to the hundreds in attack and defence, at that point they are far more than fodder.


    EDIT: Also, anyone who doesn't work for Gamespot who has played Monster Hunter should love it, except also for idiots who need a lock-on and "magic".

    @VenomIreland: God, every time I see someone whine that Monster Hunter doesn't have lock-on I cringe. Locking on to enemies would destroy this game. They need to go play Phantasy Star and stop trying to ruin the fun for people who don't suck.

    @WarlordPayne: While I play PSO/PSU, I'm not opposed to clobbering something the old fashioned way. I think lock on game should always give you a manual option if you want to use it.

    @Billkwando bought his tickets for Hyde's US tour: I've played PSO and PSU, too, and they are fun. It's just that when people complain about things like the lack of lock on or how long it takes to drink health potions all I hear is: "I want Monster Hunter to play like Phantasy Star" and it frustrates me endlessly. It's like saying Gran Turismo needs red shells and banana peels.
