You should let me buy you a drink some time, Fahey. Typing this from the Jolly Roger hotel right next to the Con. Shanty little place that was clearly decorated in the 1960's. My roommate, his gf and I made the trip once again this year.
I'd ask what you thought of the "goody bag" but I'm sure you'll post about it soon enough.
Surprisingly the line to get our badges this year wasn't as bad as it looked (for those have us who didn't have a spiffy Kotaku ultra-cool-man press pass)
Looking forward to tomorrows opening and the suspiciously named "WoW preview" which I believe is the first time in all the Blizzcons they've had a panel named that. It seems they're being extremely cautious this time around with information as opposed to previous years. So much so we didn't even get a Con Program. We have to get one after the opening ceremony.
Mostly though, can't wait to get some hands-on time with Diablo 3. After playing it last year I'm excited with the years worth of new development.
Look forward to any interviews Kotaku gets behind the scenes with the developers. Hope you have some good questions lined up.
Anyway, as I said before, if I see ya around I'm buying you a drink. Though you probably wouldn't be hard to find. Considering all I have to do is look for the guy who's destroying everything.
Interesting, will definitely be looking forward to any new tidbits of Diablo III.
But I have a question (a few actually): Does Blizzard run the convention, or is it somewhat fan-based? And If Blizzard is running the show, what do they have to show other than World of Warcraft, Starcraft 2, and Diablo III? And how is Activision involved with them after the merger, if at all?
My buddy got a call from Blizzard yesterday after his credit card fraud kicked in when he was about to purchase the last set of tickets. Surprisingly, they offered up four tickets yesterday. Just booked our flight, and hotel. Can. Not. Wait. Dressing up as a four man dragoon will be the nerdiest thing I have ever done in my life.
Meh went to one of the past blizcons honestly I felt that it wasn't worth the price I paid what with the cost of airfare plus the cost of ticket and hotel and car rental all in all I can say it was not as great as I thought it would have been. Seems there is more hype then ever for this and honestly folks its a good experience but not for what I spent on it.
You don't wanna miss it! They're going to announce the next character class from Diablo 3, the Scalper.
"The Scalper will gain bonuses to buying/selling of items and perception stat gains allowing them to spot suckers over long distances. Their ticket glammer ability will make their trade items irresistable to other players."
Yeah, I'm gonna pay to go to a convention where Blizzard can is going to tell me about games they are going to sell me in the future. Ludicrous from a logical standpoint by a brilliant marketing strategy only Blizzard could get away with. $125 per ticket? Ahahahahaha, wow.
I thought I recalled reading something, maybe on mmo-champion or somewhere else, that you couldn't really scalp these tickets, because you needed to present the credit card/id associated with the tickets at the door...however, once you had your badge to enter, it was fair game. Was that incorrect information?
@Wolzard: Attendee badges will be distributed on site at the Anaheim Convention Center during BlizzCon. Approximately one month before the show, the ticket purchaser will receive up to five separate e-mails (one for each ticket purchased) each containing a unique attendee barcode that will be required to gain entry to the show. You will also be able to access these bar-code emails through your Battle.net account.
Before arriving at the show, each attendee must print the e-mail containing his or her barcode and bring it to BlizzCon, along with valid photo ID. In order to receive a badge, the name on the bar-code e-mail *must* match the name on your photo ID. You can edit attendee names for all of the tickets you purchased until 5 p.m. Pacific Time on June 13 by logging in to Battle.net Account Management and going to Order History.
from Blizzard's website. Unless I'm missing something, doesn't this mean Scalping doesn't work?

Ah nevermind, just reread this...but I guess that means all scalping has to be done by June 13th.
True story- about two years ago I wanted to see a concert here in Edmonton, but the tickets sold out almost instantly.
I tried searching on ebay, and found some asshole all the way over in Ontario who was selling a bunch of the tickets at an exorbitant price. I fired him off an email telling him what an opportunistic asshole he was for preventing many people who genuinely want to see a great band from attending.
He never wrote back, but the next day, he relisted the tickets for about half the original asking price. I felt good about myself.
I ended up getting my tickets from a nice guy whose friends decided, at the last minute, not to attend.

It's all so confusing!

You know they have charms for that now, Mike.

Still, charm or no charm, that was one freaking hilarious line! Hahaha, ha! *BjOrK!*
...
My funny-box is broken now. Thanks a ton.

There is something about events like that.
A tech expo is interesting, they show you neat things in the flesh. Blizzcon to my understanding is a LAN party.
I've been to a 500 person LAN before -PDXLAN- and there is something that made me feel incredibly disattached.
Then it hit me... It's the size! While it is nice to do once, or twice, I'd much rather attend a LAN with 10-60 people.
Now, WW2 or Civil War reenacting, that's different... I'd love to see a few thousand yanks... *gulp*

Yeah, "the Scalper" is just a variation of the Rogue class.
