Mike Bilder, head of the Chicago studio, the internal developer responsible for Stranglehold, Mortal Kombat and Blitz: The League, has left the company. Bilder has accepted a senior management position with another Chicago-based developer, according to Midway reps.

When contacted for comment, Midway reps responded "We are evaluating internal and external candidates for the role, and both Blitz: The League II and Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, as well as other projects in the Chicago studio, are on track for successful launches."

Midway also confirmed the departures of Mona Hamilton, vice president of marketing, and Reilly Brennan, director of media relations. Details weren't provided, other than that the two are "no longer with Midway and will be pursuing other opportunities."

Two other senior Midway staffers were also said to have left the company, but opted not to provide comment. We're awaiting confirmation from Midway on the status of the other two rumored departures.

<![CDATA[Romanowski, Taylor Named to Cover of Blitz 360]]> 207.215.130.23-image72.jpg

Freed from the shackles of NFL servitude, Midway continues to deliver up spicy football titles that show what the game really is like, both on and off the field.

Blitz: The League for the Xbox 360 is set to hit this October and Blitz: The League Overtime is coming in November for the PSP.

Midway today said they've named Bill Romanowski and Lawrence Taylor as co-cover athletes for the 360 version of the game. Romanowski will also be lending his winning personality and voice to the game as Bruno Batagglia, one of the fantasy league's most hated linebackers.

Spit in the eye of the NFL: Buy this game.

<![CDATA[Tecmo Bowl's Effect on the Game Industry]]> TOUCHDOWN

Slate blames Tecmo Bowl and its licensing for the death of video game football. Citing Tecmo Bowl's profound reach into the game industry, author Chris Suellentrop says that the only football games left are games like Tecmo Bowl - until Blitz: The League. The author questions the replayability, but appreciates the fresh XFL variety the game actually brings to the field. Worth a read, but is the game worth playing? Any Kotaku readers check it out? Leave a comment if you did, lemme know what you thought.
