Electronics and appliance retailer Hhgregg is no longer content to have game shoppers drive past them on the way to the GameStop. Starting Black Friday, November 28th, all 109 retail locations will begin offering video game bundles, packed with popular games and various other accessories. These are commonly known among the game-savvy as "Parents Don't Know Any Better" packs, and will come in both console and handheld flavors. Research Says 46% Of Shoppers Looking To Buy A Console On Black Friday
With Black Friday almost upon you (no such shenanigans in non-thanksgiving-giving countries such as Aus), research firm Consumer Reports have got into the spirit of things by publishing a report on projected consumer spending. In other words, what people will be loking at spending their money on come next Friday. Turns out they'll be spending it on Wiis, PS3s and 360s. 46% of those polled said that, when they hit the shops on November 28, they'd be shopping for a games console. 46%. Blow that figure out across the US (even accounting for the fact the total number must surely be slightly lower) and that's a ton of people in the market for a games machine. Hope the three platforms have their trousers pressed and their shoes polished, because with that kind of money up for grabs, they're going to need to make an impression. More »

A little less than a week to go and the Black Friday deals are rolling in. This one from KB Toys. According to their circular, they are offering Buy One Get One Free on their entire stock of video games. The offer excludes hardware and bundles with a limit of four fee games per customer. I find it a bit odd that there are no next-gen games in the photo, but the ad clearly states "entire stock." If there is a KB in your area, you might want to give a call or stop by this week to see what the selection is like before you head over there at 6am only to find yourself faced with some crappy GBA games. Ah, Black Friday. I prepare for the day by scouring countless websites for information, mapping out local retail outlets to make sure I can be in line when each store opens its doors. Then come Friday morning I realize that the gaming deals on Black Friday completely suck and wind up sleeping in, but still. Ah, Black Friday. Take Wal-Mart's big gamer incentive for the shopping holiday. You can get an Xbox Arcade system with five bonus games for the low low price of $279.92! That's a savings of $.08! Take back what I said, that's a steal! It even comes with five bonus games! Of course, said bonus games are the XBLA titles that come bundled with the package in the first place, but you throw the word bonus in there and parents go crazy buckets all over the place, not knowing how inherently Black Friday sucks for gamers.
