and the sales numbers demonstrate how not shitting all over a powerful franchise fused with not rushing the game to meet a movie deadline resonates with consumers.
@Bkore: God no, anyone who tackled Superman game is begging for failure and bankrupting the company. I think EA still has the rights to make it though so yea go ahead EA another failure will insure you can't afford to buy out any more developer studios.
@Neko_Tech: Jeez, he's just pontificating about the possibilities.
A decent Superman game is quite the pipe dream, but since there's already been a decent Batman game, maybe the last son of krypton could have his day in the sun.
@Daniel @ playreadwrite.blogspot.com: Super hero like Superman is easy to idolize but the fact is when you try to make it into a game it's hard to do.
He's practically invincible and the only thing that would challenge the players is to save x people or x buildings from x. That would make the game repetitive and stale. Even if they made the enemies able to hurt Superman it wouldn't make the gamers believe that would hurt him enough to kill him. So in a way Superman is a double edge sword if you try to capitalize him in a video game.
Nice. Now lets get some more DLC going and a sequel and I'll be happy.
Since it sold so much I am going to go ahead and assume now that there will be a sequel? I got this game last Wed, and it kicks fucking ass. As soon as I finished I wanted a sequel. The ENigma riddles were great to, except for some of the trophies, which got tedious at times. A good design choice putting the maps in the game, and putting them near the end of all the levels.
Also, the Zsasz tapes were FUCKING SPOOKY. Based solely on those I have a new second favorite villain. Mark Hamill took all the best parts of Heath Ledgers Joker and put them into the cartoon setting, which allowed him to take the insanity and depravity to a new level. Best. Joker. Ever.
Game was a sleeper hit for sure. Now I'm looking forward to a sequel with co-op where another player can run through with me as Robin or Nightwing. Can't wait!
How sad that if a game does well the gamer's mind immediately starts thinking about wave after wave of tired sequel simply to cash in on a good thing. How does a unexpectedly good (read: great) title give the consumer the thought process of: "Oh, this game is great. Probably the best game I've played all year. Oh crap, it's a shame this game is good because now it's going to get sequels."
Really? Is that really your main concern at the moment? Call me old fashioned, but I'd prefer that a story be fully told to its extent by its creators, even if that story takes two or three iterations. I hate a cash-cow as much as the next guy, but is it really time to be assuming that any good, original IP will fall victim to the fate of Guitar Hero and Madden?
@(Human) Gyaruson: Damn fucking right. Jesus, why are people so worried about the sequels? if your worried about the franchise being milked then just ignore the sequels.
@excel_excel:
I'm glad I'm not the only one who is just content to enjoy this game and not worry about Eidos or "The Man" milking it dry. If it starts to get out of hand, then it does. Nothing we can do about it, and there's no point complaining about the potential for cash-cowisms until you start to see evidence of it.
@Cururu: Yeah, it's actually a mammal, meaning it's child sucks on the mothers nipples for a few weeks after birth. They're actually really interesting creatures.
Now if the question is can you milk a Batman, well, the answer is still yes, but a bit too NSFW.
still working through to complete all the riddler's challenges. but my goodness, what a wonderful game. the grappling gun never gets old! The boss fights are a bit disappointing, but this game's atmosphere is top notch.
@Ted:
I love the combat but I am balls bad at it. The only combat room where I can get 3 Batarangs is the first level, anything beyond that I can only get one or two. I don't know the secret to getting a good score. Is it not breaking your combo, or using a diverse set of moves? I just can't seem to get through an entire challenge in one fluid combo. I'm too much of a button-masher, I guess...
@(Human) Gyaruson: I was at first. Then I became one with the game and somehow managed to 100% it. Shock and Awe (Extreme) was so goddamn balls hard.
Really it's just clicking at the right time (and I think using the control stick/WASD to point at the enemy you want to go to helps). Once you're fully upgraded, quick Batarangs are wonderful at stopping the guys from opening the gun cabinets or throwing stuff at you. Oh, and x5 combo takedowning the shock/gun/knife guys.
@(Human) Gyaruson: Once I stopped pounding the attack button, my scores quadrupled. Just press once for each enemy, and use your takedowns as much as possible. Also, if you have your Ultra Batclaw, use that at the beginning of each wave that has knife/prod enemies. That way you can drop them first, and it'll be easier to sustain your combos.

@Sir-Lucius has no pictchar!: Quite possibly the best game of the year. It's a game that actually benefits from the license, respects it and add a lot of depth to the license rather than just milk it.

Now get cracking on the sequel!

Great job Rocksteady, pretty good for your 2nd/3rd game and I thank you for giving my favourite comic book hero an excellent treatment.

This is the thing we wish for when we're fans of an IP, and this is one of the only superhero games that has delivered on all of that excitement.
Thanks Rocksteady.

This is what happen when you make awesome games based off of awesome superheros.
Please consider this when it comes time to pump out Iron Man 2
