I picked this up. It is really good for an old school 2D platformer. Decent challenge, fun graphics and the best music I've heard in an indie game so far. I'll be picking up the second in the series for sure.
@masterbedgood: Yes, I bought Zombies the day it hit. I would have paid the dollar just for the theme song alone. But I happen to love Dual Stick Shooters, so I liked the game as well.
I agree that the main game is doable in one sitting, and that lives aren't really a problem. I was disappointed that the challenge stages don't stay unlocked between sessions, though. I did like 10 of them and figured I'd come back to it, but they don't save either. Not only that, but you also have to beat the main game again before you can even do challenge levels again. Not much chance I'm gonna want to play through the entire game each time before I feel like going for the challenges.
That said, so far as I can see the challenge levels are the same levels, except you get an "OK" if you get all the collectable items in a level, which I was doing anyhow through adventure mode. :) So maybe I'm not missing much. I did want to try the "uberhard" robot stage though...
@johnny000001002: The challenge stages do stay unlocked. I dunno what your problem is. Obviously it sounds like the game isn't saving any data, so check that you have enough memory. JUMP! was pulled briefly for what I assume could be a bug fix, so consider deleting it all and redownloading.
This game is a tremendous value at only $3. The platforming, level design and especially the crisp, bright graphics that evoke the early eighties all recommend 01 Jump. It's the kind of game we'll see more of if we support it.
@(Zombie) The Forgetful Brain: XboxIndies.com remains the best place for information even if the site is essentially dead now. Now that games can be rated, you'll find good stuff by sorting the dashboard game list by most popular.
As awesome as this game looks, I'm sure it'll quickly be shunned after people realize that there are no save points and no checkpoints. If you lose all of your lives, you play the whole game over.
@Ueziel: Yep, I've seen a few people whining about that on some boards... nevermind that there's an extra life available in most every stage. It does get tricky on the last few stages, but I was able to beat the game on my first playthrough. That bonus level, however, is a completely different matter, but that's a single, separate stage.
@Ueziel: Your comment just made me realize that there is quite possibly a whole generation of gamers that have never played a game like this. For that I am sad.
@Ueziel: Yeah, well, most people who complain about such things... have been un-tempered by this generation of games, and how easy they've become. Beating a game used to be a major accomplishment - these days, it's a given.
I have heard people complain about uninspiring level design for this game, however. I can at least swallow that kind of criticism.
This is a wonderful game any platformer fan needs to buy. Come on, it's only $3. That's like 10 cents per stage with a free bonus stage with your order!

Stuff like this is great! And it's exciting that you can pick it up on XBL for practically nothing.
Does anyone know a good place that highlights the better XBL indie games?
I should take a look through what's there at some point.
