Its exactly BECAUSE of my jRPG nerd upbringings that gets me into car games. Not burnout... thats just out of a love of high speed and crashing shit.
But things like Gran Turismo and Forza. I wondered for the longest time why I liked them so much... then I figured it out. Its RPG-Cars.
You earn money (exp) to customize and outfit your car with different options (skills) which makes your car stronger and better (leveling up) so you can earn more money (exp) to keep 'leveling' your car, or buy a new one (new character to play around with).
Seriously. Sounds weird, but true.

Obviously it would be cross promotional advertisment for them. They could then licence Paradise City to Rockstar - it would save a fortune on development costs.

You do realize that Burnout and GTA4 run on entirely separate engines right? As well as being made by two separate companies?

@Mike Newlad: When i play burnout, i love the driving, graphics, physics, and all the controls and everything you can do in it. then when i play GTA4 right after it, GTA4's driving seems extremely lacking in every category in comparison, however, i think the addition of people makes up for it.... I'm sorry to admit it, but it is really fun to hit people with your car in GTA4. If it were implemented into Burnout paradise, I swear i'd play it all the time(like i do). They dont even need to add blood or anything, but if they also added people to cars, so we could have people flying out windows when you crash too hard...it would be the best driving game ever!

And... er... Lost Odyssey. (Which I got given because the person hated it, and I remembered why I never bought it after renting it in the first place, but I'm driven to finish at least one JRPG in my entire freaking life-time.)

My problem now is, I don't have anything that will play IX, and it's almost impossible to find!
05/28/09
It's like they almost don't even want you to play the game.

As for not bothering to play them, everything I wrote is about how I play them TOO MUCH, in that I have to go everywhere and find anything and it's a compulsion, which eventually causes boredom. Boredom is far from dislike, however, and I have played just about every top-tier JRPG out there. (Except the Vesperia and Star Ocean series).
So yeah, you kind of missed the point there :)
P.S. I go back and read the memories afterwards, but when they come up while I'm playing, it utterly and completely rips me out of the experience.

Must go back and finish:
- Revenant Wings
- Persona 3 FES (the FES expansion itself)
- Persona 4
- Lost Odyssey
- Blue Dragon
...
Last RPG that kept me hooked from start to finish was A Dance with Rogues mod for Neverwinter nights and before that it was FF12.
