The turnaround in this game from 'possibly vapourware' to 'Launch' is distressingly fast.
Maybe I just haven't been keeping up with the news on this, but it seems like people were still in the speculation-on-gameplay stage. And I'm pretty sure the movie had something to do with suddenly hammering it out the door.
Which... to me signals that it's probably rushed to get out and not so great. Given the launch of Champions Online, I'm even more skeptical.
I quite liked what they were doing with the space combat, that video they released earlier this week got me quite interested.
I've not seen a lot about the ground based stuff however, and what I have seen was a bit meh, unfortunately. At least there's going to be a public beta so I can try out and see what I like.
They had a writing contest for a slot in the closed beta, way back during summer. I entered a piece - didn't think it was too shabby, but of course it didn't win.
And then the forums went berserk. The winner of the contest broke the word limit, and the folks on the forum wanted blood.
@ShaSt One: I remember trying to describe to my friends a show about a girl who turned into some sort of puddle due to radiation or something, and they looked at me like I was crazy. If I hadn't watched the show with my sister I would have thought it was some sort of weird dream, haha. #thesecretworld
I've heard Age of Conan is almost where it should have been for release now. The first 20 levels are amazing well done and highly enjoyable, but once you're put out on your own, it turns into a craptastic grind.
That is all biased due to the fact that I played this when it was first released (and that was a mistake). I'd say go try it. At least for the free 2 weeks.. I was stupid and bought the CE anyways... #thesecretworld
@Neocorey: Same here bought it on release date bought CE. I was going to give the trial that I was suppose to get to couple of people to join me, didn't happen. Heck after 2 months they still didn't give me my 5 trial codes until way after.
However I will dabble on the two free weeks things but even returning for Champions Online, I didn't get a chance to play since patching took forever more than usual.
I hope AoC actually improved enough since the first 3 months of launch. I did enjoy it but with so many quest bugs and having the NPC guards attacking me for defending myself in town while the attacker runs free just to do that again. I also hated that when I was at a quest giver and I was actually READING the story I was ganked and the only way out was clicking everything in site. Now if all those things are rectified then I might actually enjoy the game and may come back. #thesecretworld
@Taggart6: I don't always drink beer, but when I do...: I've heard so much about DDO (good things). Is it worth downloading or am I just going to play it for 2 hours and uninstall? #thesecretworld
@Neocorey:
Try the lite interface which is a few hundred MBs to see if you like the game play. The graphics are really low end, but It shows the core mechanics of the game.
If you do, then you can download the larger more graphical interface version which is like 4 GBs.
It's a neat system for trying out the game with out having to go through a huge install.
Can't wait, as this is the only officially announced FPS I'm looking forward to. I wish they'd drop the regenerative health, but that's probably not happening. Anyway, here's hoping I can get into the PS3 and PC betas without going to Gamestop...
Also, has it actually been stated somewhere that the PS3 is the lead platform for BF:BC2? Seems like people are making an assumption there. I think this beta coming to the PS3 and not the 360 could just be evening things out, since the first BC beta was a 360 exclusive.
Is it wishful thinking to think the reason for exclusivity is that they're actually going to make improvements from this beta as opposed to using it as a demo? #battlefieldbadcompany2
I'm liking the preorder- based betas. Beats having to find obscure websites and filling out registration surveys, then having to wait for acceptance. #battlefieldbadcompany2
[Insert long ass rant about the bullshit trend requiring reserves to participate in betas here]
Though it does kinda make sense, I mean like those that reserve the game are your customers after all. But then again, I am only interested in BF:BC2 because of the MP beta on the 360. Which was the only reason I was interested in BF:BC. #battlefieldbadcompany2

Crazy what people will do / pay for beta testing a game.

I expected words to fly out towards me really fast somewhere in the middle after the stills.
Great announcement otherwise. I already preordered the game but the employee didnt say anything. I'll have to check what's up. #battlefieldbadcompany2
