@Leanid: Good question. I would like to say it's just Bleszinski's fault, but Mark Rain runs the damn company. If he truly wanted Gears 2 to come to the PC, he could tell Cliffy to go pout and stomp elsewhere.

@homernoy: I guess I should post a screenshot. It looks like it's a bit better than 46fps.

@MrKlorox:I couldn't add the screenshot when I edited my above comment. Here is what I got with 2x supersampling Anti-Aliasing. Sorry I forgot to change my settings in my Nvidia control panel to multi-sampling. Still, gives you an idea. Many points went to 130+fps.

Only tried DX10.
It doesn't really seem necessary though. There's not a lot of small thin lines or textures with transparency (like last-gen PC tree foliage). Example here: http://www.nhancer.com/help/AASamples.htm

@jp182: here's how I did. if you can't see my screenshot for whatever reason this is my current setup:
AMD X3 720
4GB DDR3
Nvidia 8600 GT
with the settings at High for everything except the shadows which were at Medium and the resolution at 1920 x 1080
Windows XP
Variable - 22.1
Fixed - 20.2
I also ran it in Windows 7 for shits and giggles
Variable - 21.9
Fixed - 21.9
and that's using DX9. I tried DX10 but it was about 3 fps slower.
The funny thing is that while the variable (which is actual gameplay) was 22 fps on average it would spike into the 30's depending on what was going on. I already planned on getting a new videocard next month but maybe I'll wait until around the time this game comes out as it works fine for what I need it to do for now.

I am a diehard PC gamer. I don't see that changing soon, even with the console only mouth breathers declaring PC gaming is dead. God! Every time a console is released, it's the same fucking thing.
07/16/09
Might I recommend BF 1943. It's no PC Battlefield but it's by far the best value available on the console download services.

Ah well, neither are that big of a deal. I'll oogle the costumes over the internet, and I can't see how much you could improve on Mercenaries, unless they add more levels (which I would rage about). Mercenaries was already great on PS3/360.
07/16/09
I'm also not one to spend $$$ to try and fight the uphill battle of PC gaming.
.... guess I'll have to keep holding out hope that Capcom realizes RE4 worked pretty darn well on the Wii.
if they need to save on processing power they can just take the side-kick girl out of the gameplay =) haha
07/16/09
Especially if I can do it over Steam or some sort of digital download.

Last week I built a computer for $400 that runs everything on the market at 60 frames per second or more. With this RE5 benchmark I averaged 90.
Prowl around newegg and look for deals and you'll have all the parts you need cheap and quick.
07/16/09
I hope they do a better job than what they did with the PC port for RE4; it was the first time I played a game on PC that actually looked worse than the consoles, even when totally maxed out.
07/16/09
Also, RE4's PC port wasn't handled by Capcom themselves, you can thank outsourcing for that monstrosity.
07/16/09

07/16/09
They did a lousy port of Splinter Cell: Double Agent as well...
*shakes fist*
Also you're right about SF:IV (the only other capcom game I've owned for pc). I remembered last week when I turned off the frame rate lock during the benchmark demo and the game proceeded to play at 150 fps per sec.
07/16/09
As the other people said, Capcom had nothing to do with DMC3, Onimusha 3 and RE4 on the PC..ubisoft got a license to port them and then outsourced them to a random developer in Korea i think.
07/16/09
Was it just graphical or gameplay stuff?
I never knew there was a mod community for it...

The first link is unavailable at the moment, but it contains a video of decent mods to add to RE4 PC. The second is a board dedicated to RE4 PC (and soon RE5).

Lost Planet I have it on Steam but hey guess what it isn't supported anymore since they re-released it as LP- Colony Edition.
Sure Capcom has gotten better with PC but you know, shouldn't they have the done that in the first place? Also look how long it takes them to even bring it to the PC which IMO have no excuse to take that long. I've ended up renting RE5 3 months after it came out and beat it.
Other smaller games like Age of Booty and Bionic Commando Rearmed I've would've got it for the PC but I didn't like how its required to have limited installs so I got it for the PS3. I have no problem with limited installs if it was easy to manage my activation like the PS3 does, (although you either activate it all or not at all kinda bugs me) but on the PC they don't offer a deactivation program until either too many people bitch about it or they release it way after when nobody cares to play it (for the people who've been waiting gets fed up and ends up playing something else). Sure they sometimes deactivate the activation limit but unless your really paying attention to it you wouldn't know.
So I got to know for the people who bought the retail PC version of SF IV (not steam/Direct Download/Impulse/Gamers Gate) is it using SecuRom 7.x where it use online activation or is it like Fallout 3 where it does a simple dvd check (I know the recent patch no longer uses DVD anymore, I was using that as a example when it was first released).
07/16/09
Nothing beats DMC3 though - Gamepad support but they switch the stick for moving to be the right one. How on earth shall I move and press the face buttons with just one thumb?

The only thing that piss me off with SecuRom (and other that is close to it) is their crappy online activation (if the game has it). Standard CD/DVD checks I don't care really, as long it no longer messes up with the computer outside of gaming.
The newer SecuRom (only the disk check, I don't buy online activation anymore so I wouldn't know) so far I haven't seen or experienced degrade of performance in my computer outside of gaming.

Keep it coming, Capcom. Someone needs to show the industry how to treat PC gamers. :P

That is awesome. I ended up building one and then almost immediately selling it because I was offered nearly twice what I paid for it.
I still wish I kept those Sanwa sticks, so I only have a Seimitsu for mine right now.
Really responsive and clicky.
06/18/09
I'm still on the fence whether to go Sanwa or Seimitsu though, I'm leaning heavily towards Sanwa but the Seimitsu parts have some nice pros. Out of curiosity, what PCB did you use for the controls? I've been eyeing up the Cthukhu for a while now and it seems to be the best option.
06/18/09
I got the PCB , he got his box/mock controller.

I didn't fare as well as I expected. At first I tried it @1680x1050 with 16xQAA but the results were terrible but then I figured since I'll be throwing the 8800GT into a mame cabinet and replacing it with a GTX260, it made sense to test settings that I'd have in the cabinet rather than on my main rig which will have a different card by time the game is out. I'll probably drop the AA down to 4x for the cabinet though since it won't make all that much of a difference in visual quality.

It does show promise for me though since I'll have the 260 by time the game comes out. What level of AA were you using?
THose X3 seem to be a very nice cpu too, quite cheap too, I was thinking of getting one for the cabinet.

I am sure there will be a decent community set up around the game as it is the definitive version. Plus all the offical hori and mad catz sticks and pads work fine with the game
There is alot of people who have been waiting for this. So please don't knock it

You might be pissed off that the PC is getting a better version but that doesn't change facts.
06/18/09
PC version is nice but lets keep things in perspective.
06/18/09
performance will most likely be barely better.. and i dont even see how the online will be much better. if you truly are into fighting games.. you know that even on pcs... theres still latency in fighters. its not perfect ANYWHERE yet.. plus, id be willing to bet money that more people will own this game for ps3/360 than the pc. thats just how it goes.. your "casual" players have already lapped it up from walmart and target for their consoles.. internet lurkers are a small bunch.
im so tired of that elitest attitude.. i love consoles.. i think theyre better for my needs than the pc.. and personally i think arcades trump all. but i swear ima beat somebody up soon if people dont stop acting like their opinion is king.

"The Windows version of Street Fighter IV will include all features found in the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, plus some extras, that Capcom representatives say could make it "the definitive version" of the game. It has also been revealed that the game will feature online play via Games for Windows - LIVE, with built-in voice chat and PC-exclusive achievements, but no cross-platform playability would be available with Xbox 360 players. Also, the game will feature higher resolutions, and three new freely selectable visual styles, named "Watercolor", "Poster" and "Sumi-e ink"."
