I think Rose is a great choice, since her style is very unique! I would love to see Ibuki or Makoto, of course -- but, since they're trying to keep somewhat of a timeline going, it might be a bit premature for their debut.
Totally agree on it needing more SF3 characters, Ibuki at the very least and Makoto just because I like her.. I'm sure some hardcore fan will say she sucks for various reasons.
@OGHowie: no.. its because sf III is the least "popular" in the series.. yet its probably the best respected amongst hardcore fans. if theres anything close to a perfect 2d fighter.. its 3s in my book.
i honestly think that the timing is what made III so unpopular. arcades were on life support in america, and everyone was focused on 3d in 1997. now that everything is shooter, epic movie type game, shooter, shooter, epic movie type game, shooter.. street fighter is a perfect alternative.
but yeah.. no love for the street fighter III fans.. although i am still buying this game day one and super excited about it.. im still mad that they just made it a mix of street fighter II and ex.
Lisa Lisa? Oh, it's just Rose. Anyway, like every piece of leaked information on an upcoming title, it's better to take this with a grain of salt until some actual confirmation emerges. Also, after playing this game at the arcade over the weekend, I simply can't wait for the console version to come out.
@Roufuss: For God knows what reason she has always been a favorite among Alpha series fans.
Like you, I can think of few less appealing choices from the Alpha roster. If it was up to me I'd replace her with either Ibuki or Elena from Street Fighter 3. Still, that's what the inevitable half-dozen updates will be for, right?
read the cannon and you will know why she's here. she's a critical portion in the story, and quite frankly it wouldn't be right to put cammy in without rose.
I know about the canon, and that is one of the prime reasons I DO hate her so much.
An incredible lame tie-in to Bison (who I think is a pretty awesome, timeless character), who is already saddled with too much lame back story as it is... then Rose just further complicates it and makes it stupid.
I don't like her look, her specials, her win quotes, the character as a whole is probably the most unappealing of all the Alpha characters to me.
When I think of the well of Alpha, SF 2, and SF 3 characters who could have made the cut, I am saddened to see they chose Rose.
And isn't canon disregarded for the console characters anyways? Regardless, I threw canon out the window when Gouken came back from the dead.
@Roufuss: agreed (on the canon issues). i also thought gen had succumbed to leukemia by the time 2 rolled around. oh.. and didnt gouken kill bison in super turbo? i heard that the reason that bison was so puny in II compared to his alpha version is because thats a different body.
the canon is so ridiculous but i still love the series so much. i dont know why lol. thats what happens when the original creators of a series dont lay down a story.. and other guys come in and change things around so much.
So the gamers of Belgium are now forced to feed even more money at GameStop (and related stores)? If anything, the used game industry is taking away a huge chunk of sales. Why don't they ban those, too? Oh, and those somewhat reasonable prices? I'm pretty sure they're getting in the way of a higher profit margin. Why don't they force consumers to pay an obscene amount for their shovelware games. They should also pass a law that requires gamers to steal candies from babies, and then beat them with it. It's all the same thing.
This is a ridiculous law. Talk about lobbyists influencing politics in a way that's bad for the consumer. I don't see this practice standing if somebody actually challenges it, especially on the EU level.
On the other hand one has to remember that not every used gaming market is as broken as the US system with Gamsstop ripping people off. I don't know about Belgium, but in Germany game prices usually are dropping fast and you can get good deals on used games right after they're released.
Not if you look at the big picture. Rental sales can result in a retail sale. Rental sales don't (or shouldn't) make the industry lose money because a rental copy costs more than a retail copy. If the publisher/developer thinks they're losing money then put the price of a rental copy up!
It's stupid. The games industry thinks they are some special case of business that can work in the opposite way to everyone else. Let me outline how business works: You make a product for a certain amount and sell it to make profit. Any company that makes a product which sells at a loss will go out of business. You're supposed to know and cater to your market... if you don't then you are out of business.
That's why i can't understand all these game companies complaining about the cost of making games. They make the choice to make a game that expensive. It doesn't have to be and they can make games that cost less and make more profit. It makes no sense. And yet these key tenets of business are lost on the gaming industry who cry and cry about it rather than actually using their heads and thinking about the problems they face. What business sense does it make to sell consoles at a loss? What business sense does it make to target a small market with your games (HD penetration anyone?) when you spend too much on them to make a profit anyway?
I've always been an avid gamer and my collection is £5000+ (i don't sell my games) but i'm sick and tired of this crap. I'm fed up of people protecting and siding with the gaming industry when they have only themselves to blame.
@Duoae: "If the publisher/developer thinks they're losing money then put the price of a rental copy up!"
Fair comment.
"What business sense does it make to sell consoles at a loss?"
It's called a "loss leader" supermarkets sell bread and milk at a loss so that customers will come into the store, once there they spend money on goods with a markup thus netting the supermarket a profit. If you sell a console at a loss but make a profit on the games then you offset the one-off loss on hardware with a rolling profit on software. This makes driving up game sales even more important and thus the decreased revenue from rentals more damaging. Of course as you stated they could just charge more for rental licenses until they make a profit or until they price rental companies out of the market. Or of course they could just, you know, not sell rental licences. :)
Well then surely the Belgians should do the same thing for video rentals and whilst we are at it book's too... Close down those fucking library's with there harmfully damage to the book publishing industry...

It intrigues me that this still might not be the final character list. Who else can they add? I doubt they'd add any SFIII characters.
Hmm Rolento perhaps? The character select boxes looks to be set to the final count.

Not you play the whole game for £3.50 and if you like and if you haven't already copied it and if you really really want to play it again, you buy.
