That looks awesome, obvious comment about how GTA4 should have been that goes here. But I thought the intro paragraph of the article said that you could "lasso a humvee to a cenobyte," which would be awesome as I bet the eternally damned would make for a good sled-dog team. Damn you, selective dyslexia, you let me down again.
I disagree that GTA4 should have been like this. I like them 'keeping it real' so to speak :) However, as a standalone concept, wakey physics, great graphics and a awesome car chased make this look like the mutts nuts.
The first thing that grabs my attention is the Square Enix logo. Man that looks odd attached to this game.
The second thing is that this game looks hugely entertaining! The best thing about GTAIV for me was just driving around and causing mayhem. The fun I will have with this!
@Verno77: Well then you're missing out on A LOT of great movies UP/Wall-E/Toy Story etc. They are made to be fun, which they are! So I recommend you go see those, you wont regret it, I promise!
@Verno77: I have a roommate somewhat like that. He's a physics major and he never lets us forget. Just the other day, he asked my why the giant angel doesn't just squash Bayonetta.
The main console game he plays is Halo, a game when they are still using gas powered weaponry 500 years in the future. This, of course among things...ugh.
Architecture hijack: Could the statue in the video really be called a cenotaph?
First, does it represent the current leader of the game's fictional country? If it does, I guess it can become a cenotaph once the game is over.
Second, are there cenotaphs that actually represent the person they honor? Mmmmh... some actual tombs do, so I guess it is not out of the realm of possibility...
@Witzbold: seconded. Even I, that hate sandboxes in the guts, will get a copy on day one. On PC - I prefer consoles, but this outta look great on a modern gpu.
The thing is, I want this game to take itself seriously while all this crap is happening. Oh, sure, this would be hilarious if it was all set to a Dukes of Hazzard banjo accompaniment. But, like giggling in study hall, it's even funnier when you beach a cigarette boat, parachute onto the dock and karate kick a bad guy and try to keep a straight face throughout.
So you want it to be a sandbox Max Payne? Straight face in front of you, giggling madly when it's alone?
Let me just say thank you to Eidos for basically saying "We are going to fuck with physics through physics" as well as "screw realism". People tend to forget that imagination plays a big role in video game development.
@Boom-Chicka-Ah: Here to Create a Star Commenter Empire: Exactly, I get annoyed when someone says something about a game like Halo or Mirrors Edge isn't realistic, It's a game not a simulation, just enjoy it. Your biggest concern for realism shouldn't be a cyborg's grenade throwing power. I've never met a cyborg but I would bet they can throw grenades pretty far, if not, it's not the worst stereotype to be put through.
It's nice to see some devs explicitly stating they aren't trying to make the game as realistic as possible. I think people assume because game graphics and control methods are becoming more realistic, that everything else about it should be as well, and that's just not true.
Apparently the first one's free on GameTap, at least for the time being. Is it any good? To what other games might I be able to compare this? (Thanks!)
@D-K, Anarchist: LOL, actually, as stupid the scene was in as stupid a film it is... it would be awesome to recreate that bit in Charlies angels 2 where they surf through the air on broken planks of wood after being ejected from the top of a building.
Windsurfing in Just Cause.... somebody make it happen!

Edit: And everyone don't worry, this pet peeve wouldn't actually prevent me from watching a movie or playing a video game.
Edit 2: And I love Pixar.
