"but we don't know if homosexual relationships are possible for both genders"
My guess is a no. A resounding no. But I'm touched that you thought to ask. I would love to have high-strung parties of elf-dwarf scandalousness shagging their way across the continent. Oh, and fighting the Blight or whatever you do to save people. But shagging first and foremost.
My guess is actually that they will be -- Jade Empire had them and that was years ago. Chances are this will be too, but they don't want to say with who. They've been very quiet about *who* is romancable in the first place.
Of course, given the Lesbian Alien Sex controversy, perhaps they've backed away.
@Tendrin: Oh ho! I did not know Jade Empire allowed said liaisons. At the time, my computer was woefully subpar, and the friend I knew who did have it would have buried his head in the sand if his strapping lad so much as suggested a dalliance with the male melon-seller. I shall have to hit him up for a loan of that game.
Surely once you've survived the Lesbian Alien Sex controversy, you can weather anything? C'mon, BioWare, give us our full plate of options here. People have pretty much adapted to the pansexual nature of The Sims (though if I recall, those little lightning bolts appear on the portraits of the opposite sex until you tell the game you're up for samesex love with a flirt or an instigated action...?); I don't see why self-described gothic fantasy should be any different.
Whoa! Wait! This is coming out for consoles too? I didn't know that! Color me excited! I just saw the feature Gametrailers had on this yesterday! Awesome stuff!
It's like WoW but the exact opposite of it. If that makes any sense.
So there's no multiplayer whatsoever? I could imagine this would be the Diablo of consoles.
Only downside to this game is Mass Effect 2 will ship later. I can live with one great Bioware game a year. I'd like two per but as long as the quality's good then it's ok. =D
Wrong Baldur's Gate... again, this isn't Dark Alliance (IE the Diablo rip offs), but rather Baldurs Gate, like Shadow of Amn and Throne of Bale (sp) for the PC.
Bioware's always pushing the envelope when it comes to those good/evil choices. Here's to hoping the line is blurred even further for Dragon Age. I really hope the console version remains intact, because I don't have a PC that can run this thing.
Also, AJ, everytime I read one of your previews or impressions you really give off the impression from your writing style that you don't really give a damn about anything you're writing about.
I wouldn't mind if they changed the combat for the console version; considering that's the one I'll be playing, if any, I'd rather it have a combat system that isn't about queuing up lots of quick actions and all that crap...
Never was much of a fan of the battle in the Baldur's Gate games. It's too bad, too, as Minsc is one of my favorite RPG characters, ever.
@nomadder: Sorry - one too many fantasy books, fantasy games, even fantasy fanfics have promised me "different" and all come out exactly the same. Normally, I can shove the crestfallen feelings aside, but not this week. Guess I'm running low on virgins' blood to bathe in :p
@AJ Glasser: What the hell I'll post it here as well. The more people I can get to read Martin the better.
If you do come across this, I highly recommend George RR Martin if you haven't already discovered him. His Song of Fire and Ice series is a gritty, brutal fantastorical where you never know which of the main characters is going to live, die, or just get horribly maimed.
I've become disenchanted with the likes of Robert Jordan (could have tied everything up in, oh say, 9 books) and David Farland, but Martin... Wow. Brought me back to the fantasy epic with a vengeance.
At any rate, ease up on the virgins there Ms. Bathory...
@DrunkAus: Agreed. I don't see why they dont have the PC version for the PS3 with mandatory mouse and keyboard. It's not like no one has a usb mouse and keyboard and if you don't have one they can be bought for dirt cheap <$20.
@Eric Hecht: The 360 also has usb mouse and keyboard support so I don't know why they don't just release the same version across all 3, that way everyone is happy cause really the only people who are gonna enjoy this game are people who enjoy games like BG2, NWN or similar and they are impossible to play effectively without a kb/m, as you said a usb kb/m combo is dirt cheap nowadays.
I have a suggestion, the PS3 supports Keyboard and Mouse out of the box and there's no multiplayer so no phoney baloney balancing issues. So why not, you know, put the kb/mouse support to use?
@ThursdayNext: i'm not a kb/mouse supported but that would be a really good idea after all they got no good control scheme yet so why not go for it. i'm pretty sure there's a horde of people the would go for it
Yes, but it was super simplified for the console base. Hopefully they don't do the same thing for Dragon Age, I really loved all the BG's but hated NWN.
Wow Cam Clarke pic on Kotaku...this makes this thread immediatly legendary! Leonardo from Turtles Tetsuo from Akira US Dub Liquid Snake US Ulmeida from Killer 7... Cam Clarke is the stuff legends are made of!
Just an observation on my part, but I've found that voice acting in video games is vastly superior to the voice acting in any cartoons with english voice actors.
Do they use different people for cartoons and video games or do people just not give a shit about cartoons?
@NeoAkira: You mean anime dubs? If anything game and anime dubs are equally bad. In my book, unplayable and unwatchable except in rare cases. American cartoons and games generally have good if not superb voice acting.
@half-beast: i remember playing "Return to Zork" with all its fancy voice acting, and wishing i were playing a text adventure again. seriously, that thing crashed at the drop of a hat.

Spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate: check.
I am so there. Can't wait.

Last time I checked even religion don't fall for it like Spiritual successor to GOD didn't end up too well.

People were saying that Bioshock was the spiritual successor to System Shock and last time I checked that game ended up pretty good.

and personally speaking, NWN1 do this date remains one of the best RPGs I have ever played(this includes BG2)

I thought about making my comment exclusive to anime dubs, but there are some shows on cartoon network that make me cringe.
