@HudoKudo: As the others say. It's tough finding anything that distinguishes the game. They don't make nearly enough use of what should be the best feature - the steampunk setting. There's some personality, but a lot of the game feels like being thrown back in time about eight years.
Can never tell what games they publish and which they actually develop, but I'm playing Etrian Odyssey II right now and am loving it.
They seem like a really solid old-skool developer / publisher, and I approve. Still, Jack Frost? That thing looks terrible, and doesn't even seem like IP. I mean, everyone knows Jack Frost, he's not Atlus's. They could've used an impressive character portrait from one of their RPGs. The female protector from EO2 is awesome, for instance.
@MrGone1980: Jack Frost the name is by no means Atlus'. However, Jack Frost the blue and white figure that you see above is Atlus' mascot, and is thus associated with them.
I <3 Atlus. It's one of the companies I look for on gaming boxes when I go to game stores. I generally ignore most games unless I see recognizable companies on the box, ie Atlus, Sega, Squeenix. Atlus is one of those companies that make me good, "Oh. This is an Atlus game, I know Ill probably enjoy it." before I even read the box itself. They're that good.
@GHNeko: They decided to address a market that is sometimes ignored in this continent, which is the J-games market.
Personally, I have bought a couple of Atlus games, mainly because of the good reviews. Though the games turned out to be crap. Persona 3? It's just a social sim with a randomly generated dungeon and a battle system that was lacking, but I guess some people are suckers for animu. To each it's own.
@Bizariko: animu? I didn't know there was a market for truncated animus in this country.
That aside, we all have games that we don't get, and don't get the love towards. I'd probably be drawn and quartered if I listed the AAA titles that make me say "why do people care about this??". Your analysis of persona is not objectively wrong, but it's kinda like a quote Joss Whedon made about Buffy the Vampire Slayer: those games are built to be loved intensely and connected with. I agree with your analysis of the game's faults, but I still love them (though 4 goes a great distance towards fixing them, even). It's not merely an anime thing, though. It's a different kind of cult thing, more like Buffy than Naruto.

When we accept that fact, our world becomes "reality."
Reality is but a reflections of our thoughts and expectations.
…But, what if we were merely reflections in another's mirror?
Are you prepared to look through that mirror to discover the truth?"
...Well, if u see any jokers, be sure to rescu me, k?

I guess what I'm getting at is this,
Will we be looking at a Persona 5 available for digital download or Amazing Tater 2: The Revenge of the Tater?
