So there are two new features in the game's co-op strategy, one of which is just a revision of an older one (fake death vs. fake surrender).

Hostage taking is cool and all, but that would mean you had to sneak up on the baddies to do it. I don't remember getting very close to the AI in the original, mostly because they have eyes in the back of their heads and shoot me if I breathe too hard while hiding behind a box. I see he quietly walks up behind the dude in the video, so hopefully they can incorporate this to be a useful feature in the game.

Otherwise this looks just like business as usual, or Army of Two 1.5, maybe with a few new weapons thrown in. #armyoftwothe40thday

@Dr Durdon: I never had a problem getting close to the enemy AI so long as my partner was using Aggro correctly. The computers pretty much ignore you if your doing it right.

I loved having my friend take aggro and I'd just go around melee-ing everyone.

I dont trust this game. By that I mean its one of those games that sounds good on paper and seems to hit all the bullet points for a good game and then...well you play it and youre left thinking "WTF?". The best example is when I played the demo of the first game eagerly thinking it was going to be great only to find that the co-op portion of the game, the whole mechanic the game is BASED on , didnt work. That's irony right there.

@Modus_Operandi: When playing with another real person, the mechanic works very well. Playing with your partner as AI though, causes a few problems at times. #armyoftwothe40thday

For all the bashing it got, Army of Two is one of the best local multiplayer games this gen and I hope Army of Tutu follows this trend.

Having your best bud over, getting a case of 24 and playing Ao2 is a fuckin' good time. #armyoftwothe40thday

@Koztah: Yeah to this day I've only played the game with buddies, never solo. It's great with a competent person who knows what they're doing, and the aggro system works for the most part. Lots of talking back and forth about strategy when playing this one. #armyoftwothe40thday

@Koztah: Agreed. Seemed like people wrote off the original game because it was trite, it didn't do anything new, and we've seen this all before.

I mean, they're right. Army of Two was nothing spectacular. It had a cheesy, obvious plot that only existed to take you to the next, cooler looking place (the last mission being particularly exiting, i must admit). It had the kind of game play everyone expected, and the upgrade system, while cool, didn't do anything that hadn't been done in much more depth before.

But it was FUN. Wicked fun.

    Also, a friendship-building experience. #armyoftwothe40thday

But yeah, it probably started out as a conversation between some of the staff. It was hilarious in concept, not so much in execution.

Riiiiggghhhttttt... I'm sure this has everyone rushing out to preorder.

So lately I've noticed this trend among all of the Q1 2010 games. Essentially, they periodically release materials, trailers, random bits (like this one here), and I'm assuming its all to keep our interest and our attention, but c'mon, Army of Two, it's not working out. #armyoftwothe40thday

I liked the first game, but the utter lack of realism hurt it for me. Either go cartooney, or go for realism. Don't go for photo-realism and then try and tell me that I have to put an entire mag of 7.62 into someone before they drop. #armyoftwothe40thday

@SpaceBat: The original was fine for trashing as you played through co-op, but my problem was the terrible engine and how easy it was to break the AI.

As far as the difference between this and ME2, Mass Effect 2's marketing actually make sense, where this just seems like stupid nonsense. "God I love blowing stuff up." *Sigh* #armyoftwothe40thday

I really liked the 1st one and my nephew always asks for us too play it. He picks Rios because of the flames and I get Salem. It's kinda crazy and sad that the 1st time we played it the ps3 got the disc read error. Then the second time during gameplay my nephew had a convulsion in the ukraine level. That really freaked me out. I remind him of it and he still wants to play. I love that kid. Just felt I had to share that its a great game to play with a friend or family member. #armyoftwothe40thday

I saw the single player mode of The 40th Day at E3, and I wasn't impressed. It seems like the multiplayer is really relying on the same thing the first game had to rely on: having a decent partner to play with. #armyoftwothe40thday

This looks pretty cool, though its bullshit that its a GameStop pre-order release. Which then causes a delay for everyone else to get it.

Since as anyone knows the longer a game with MP mode sits around the longer folks lose interest. Even more so when its a title that isnt large like Halo or COD.

So the question is will folks really still care by the time the new mode is released 30 days later? Will the game hold the initial users attention long enough to last those 30 days? #armyoftwothe40thday

@Witzbold: agreed perfectly. Coming out on January might have its benefits for the game, for if it were released in the midst of the holiday games rush, people are more prone to beat-it-and-forget-it, or even trade it in for the higher value while its still new.

Of course, all the delay of games that have been happen are making early '10 rather crowded too.

This may be yet another boneheaded move on the part of EA and GameStop. #armyoftwothe40thday

@jackburnt: problem is, how many people will be playing the game 30 days later? For some video games, especially mid-tier games, 30 days is the entire life span of the game. I might have a small, dedicated audience, sure, but will it be enough to sustain the mp mode? #armyoftwothe40thday

On a related note, the 7th floor balcony in the 209 building at EA's headquarters is a good sniper perch. I miss hanging out up there to watch people rowing in the bay or traffic going in and out of San Carlos airfield. Quite the view.
