I just pre-ordered from a local Gamestop, and was told today is the last day to do so. I heard somewhere that only 3000 of these are being produced for the first set. This seems a bit unlikely, though, considering how many ebgames and gamestops were preselling (along with Amazon and others). I just hope they honor the preorder!

I was told the same thing.

And they better well honor my pre-order after I paid for two in full! :D

Anyhow, do yourself a favor and upgrade the springs with Seimitsu LS-32 Spring(s). They are so much better than the Sandwa springs. Here's a video on replacing the springs (don't do the double-spring mod, it sucks unless you play standing up and have leverage).

be warned, this default sanwa JLF stick has a square gate. you'll have to drop about $5 + ($5 shipping) to get the octagon gate Western gamers are used to.

The JLF spring is also pretty weak. And wears out quickly if you're a CHARGE player. So another $2-5 for a stiffer (superior) Seimitsu spring.

Oh, and nothing in this stick is made by Mad Catz--they're just the middleman. Not even the case! GG.

I was seriously interested in this item until I found out it was $150. I would have paid up to $75 or maybe $80, but that price point is insane. I love Street Fighter...but not THAT much.

So, not only do they rip you off, but since it has a turbo function, it will also make online play annoying for the people who don't buy this?

I'm a D-Pad person the whole way. It's how I learned to play Street Fighter, and it's been ingrained in my gamer brain to the point where I am at a distinct disadvantage when playing with a stick. But a pad? I can even whop the stick people.

Looks like a pretty nice stick, but the price is ludicrous. They're basically selling this for actually more than what Hori's *imported* sticks cost (not what they actually cost in their home market, which is significantly less). And like it or not, this is still a Mad Catz product. They just do not have the reputation required to command a premium price on anything they make.

This is basically like Kia putting out a nice sports car and then trying to charge $100,000 for it, just because they noticed that a Ferrari costs that much.

@badasscat: Hm... That's a good point. Have any experience with the Hori sticks? I'm looking at the HRAP3, which I can probably purchase for significantly less money than one of these Mad Catz sticks, particularly in Canada.

Guess I could always wait for the comparisons, but if there's only going to be 3000 of these made... well... =.=

@emag: Yeah, you're right. I just did a whole bunch of reading on various sticks.

Still, it seems like my best bet would still be to pick up a HRAP3 and swap out the buttons for Sanwa parts at ~$2.50 a pop, which'll still be cheaper and easier to acquire than the Mad Catz stick in Canada. Afaik, no retailers in Canada are planning to carry this. >.<

For this current gen of consoles I already have an Arcade in a Box (greatest arcade stick EVER)and two Hori EX2's. I'm a fighting game nut since SF2 first hit arcades ( yes I'm that old) so I like collecting arcade sticks. I'll be skipping out on this one as I don't like the turbo functionality, and I generally stay away from Mad Catz, to many poor products have wasted my money in the past. That and an Arcade Stick with turbo is blasphemy, IMO using it for SF2 is cheating; the advantage for throws will always go to the player holding down the turbo button, and moves like Honda's 100 hand slap and Blanka's electricity are button jams on purpose, its not suppose to be easy. Holding down one button to perform them kinda removes any excitement from the fight.

@blatantripoff: Agreed 100%. Using a turbo in a fighting game is cheating and should be grounds for banning from Live. It should NOT encouraged.

Besides, it's like nobody's ever heard of MAS Systems. They've been making quality arcade sticks since the Neo Geo days. I have their Neo stick and their PS2 one (actually my wife's PS2 one....she custom ordered it black, with purple buttons).

Oh yeah, I was talking to the rep about how many of the Tourney Stick would be made, cause I'm sure the profit margin is slim to none. He said only 3000 were being made. Take that for what you will.

Also, the d-pad controllers are awesome sauce too! I don't even like playing fighters with D-Pads, but it was more than serviceable. The PS3 ones I played with were wireless too!

Looks really sweet, and I am somewhat of a arcade stick fan (got one for NES, Super NES, Dreamcast, etc...)... But a bit too rich for my blood.

    $100, sure. But $150? I think that's a bit nuts. It's really nice, don't get me wrong, but I don't think it's $150 nice.
