Remember Apotheon, that cool, slightly NSFW game about Greek myth that Stephen really liked? It’s now got a completely free (no microtransactions or ads) multiplayer spin-off on Steam. Give it a go if you’re looking for crunchy side-scrolling combat in modes like deathmatch, team deathmatch, and team elimination.
I was going to finish Watch Dogs, start Dying Light, get back to Transistor, maybe finally try Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes. That was my PS4 plan last week. Then I started playing Apotheon and discovered I have a weakness for Metroid-style games set on Mt. Olympus. You might, too.
Side-scrolling indie action game Apotheon is looking a lot better since last we saw it. We saw it at PAX East in Boston this past weekend, where it appeared to be shaping up as promising mix of Metroid and... Mount & Blade?
Due on Steam in 2013, Apotheon is an indie action RPG by a small three-man team. Not only set in Ancient Greece, but sharing the period's art style as well, it'll include both a singleplayer campaign (with an "open world") along with multiplayer combat modes.
