The Tomb Raider franchise is getting a cinematic reboot with Dan Lin, the movie's producer, saying, "It is an origin story so it is a younger Lara Croft. It will have character-driven action." This is the third film in the Tomb Raider movie series — the last one was in 2003.

A source tells The Sun (yes, yes, we know) that Jolie was originally keen to reprise her role as Lara Croft in the blockbuster film franchise, but now "feels robbed". "Angie isn't a fan of the Transformers films and believes Megan won't do the Lara Croft character justice," the source adds. "She's also annoyed because she thinks Megan copies everything from her, from her tattoos to her style." (But will she copy Jolie's cool mom status?)

Back in January, a spokesperson for Megan Fox stated, "Megan is not involved in this movie." So either Jolie is getting upset for no reason or The Sun is making up shit for no reason. Or maybe Megan Fox is actually involved in this movie.

Regardless, the really important question is what does Angelina Jolie's father, actor Jon Voight, think? "They're both very beautiful and they're both kind of sexy girls." Thanks, Jon!

<![CDATA[Next Tomb Raider Film Features Younger Lara Croft]]> It looks like Angelina Jolie's time as Lara Croft could be at an end, with the next Tomb Raider movie being an origin story featuring a much younger Lara Croft.

Speaking in an interview with About.com during the premier of Terminator Salvation, producer Dan Lim explains that the new Lara Croft film will be an origin story with a strong focus on character development, which is definitely a new direction for the film franchise.

"We're rebooting Lara Croft...It's a great origin story that we're going to tell, a very character-oriented, I would say more realistic than the past Lara Croft movies...It's not full-on action. I would say it's like Terminator, it's character driven action. For me, the Lara Croft games and movies have gone a little too action-oriented. I wanted to have action, but with character."

But who is going to play the new Lara? When questioned about the casting, with About.com's Rebecca Murray specifically mentioning Angelina Jolie, Lin's response was "It is an origin story, so it is going to be a younger Lara Croft."

So no casting news yet, but with a younger Lara Croft it seems like Angelina Jolie might be on the outs. She can still pull off pretty, but young might be a bit of a stretch. Perhaps they'll pull a Spock and slip her in there by way of time paradox. Angelina Jolie is as good a reason for a time paradox as I can think of.

<![CDATA[Angelina Jolie Loves Her Fitness Gaming]]>
Lara Croft actress and borderline anorexic Angelina Jolie has been using Let’s Pilates and her kids’ DS to shed her post-pregnancy pounds, according to America’s OK! Magazine.

A source said: "Angelina's kids were convincing her that video games were more than just fun. They explained to her you can do anything from practice math to learn to read music and exercise."

So the good news is that Jolie gets that games can be a force for good. The bad news, if she keeps dieting she’s going to disappear.

<![CDATA[How Angelina Jolie Explains Game Violence To Her Kids]]> For a celebrity whose past is filled with questionable choices — nearly making out with her own brother on camera, having "Billy Bob" tattooed on her arm, making two Tomb Raider movies — Angelina Jolie has taken a shocking turn for the normal. The UN goodwill ambassador has a decent head on her shoulders, at least in terms of talking to her kids about violence and video games.

Jolie tells Harper’s Bazaar “My kids play video games. I let them play with toy soldiers. We don’t take war and violence lightly, but we don’t hide it from anybody."

How does the big screen Lara Croft explain all that fictional violence to Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, and eventually Knox and Vivienne? “We say, ‘Mommy and daddy have movies where we play these characters, but there’s real death and violence in the world.’” Talking to your kids, eh? Helping to define the difference between reality and fantasy is an interesting concept that might just be crazy enough to work.

Reader and tipster Jason says "I thought that this is quite an interesting read considering that Ms. Jolie frequently travels to war torn nations for the UN and [has] seen what war does to people. That and how she makes an effort to talk to her kids about real world violence. It's very much a different perspective about gaming in the media that people [should] definitely hear more of in my own opinion."

We couldn't have said it better ourselves, so we didn't even try. Thanks, Jason.

<![CDATA[Ninja Theory Thinks It Could Make Beowulf Cheaper, Way Cheaper]]> Film Beowulf was sure expensive to make! The CG-laden flick was budgeted around US$150 million — not exactly chump change. Heavenly Sword developer Ninja Theory thinks it could have done the flick cheaper. Twenty percent of the cost, actually! Oh ho ho ho. Let's hear what Ninja Theory's Tameem Antoniades has to say:

We see an entirely different area of progress: a form of independent production based on real-time game engine technology. We reckon you could do something like Beowulf for 15-20 per cent of the cost... If you are already creating hi-res assets for a game, then sharing these can bring that cost down even further... We have a lot of experience in performance capture, animation, rendering and so on. We can compete in the same way that indie films can live alongside blockbusters.

20 percent of the cost is dandy and all, Ninja Theory, but would your film have Angelina Jolie? Well.

<![CDATA[Beowulf Teases With Swords and Skin]]> Talk about your teaser trailers. This one for Ubisoft's Beowulf, based on the upcoming movie, intersperses scenes of a slow-motion sword dropping in water, a sword being forged, and a naked woman with gameplay clips. The end result is far too choppy for my tastes, with clips switching too fast for me to be left with any real lasting opinion of it, other than wondering why digitally enhanced Angelina Jolie tummies with water running down them aren't a standard feature in all video games yet. <![CDATA[Another Tomb Raider Movie Possibility]]> As with most Hollywood sequels, more time is spent talking about doing one and less time spent actually making one. Tom Raider creator, Ian Livingstone, revealed that Paramount Pictures is considering making a third Lara Croft movie with everyone's favorite one half of that LA icon, Brangelina.

At this moment in time it's still not green-lit, but the signs are there. Paramount have talked about the film for a long time, and I've had meetings with them. They're willing to put a scriptwriter on board. Angelina Jolie has an option to do a third movie. I think when they see how successful Anniversary will be and realise that the world is still in love with Lara, they'll be more inclined to exercise their option.

So another Tomb Raider movie is a post-it note on some intern's cubicle wall over at Paramount and it might be turned into a movie. I feel a big "meh" emerging from the depths of my lungs. Mmmmm-eh.

<![CDATA[Angelina Jolie Pacifies Stolen Youth With Nintendo]]>

Our favorite kidnapping Hollywood star Angelina Jolie has given her newest son a "Nintendo Game Boy." While shopping in Vietnam for souvenirs, Jolie picked up 3 year-old Pax Thien. The actress even learned some Vietnamese phrases so the kid can understand what the hell his adopted mother blabbers at him. What prompted the gaming handheld? Says Jolie:

He has never had anything to call his own.

And when they won't shuddup, buy them crap. Works like a charm!

<![CDATA[Another Tomb Raider Flick? Please No, Please.]]>

Eidos Ian Livingstone is threatening another Tomb Raider film. There have been two previous film versions, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, and both were utter trash. I had the misfortune of catching box office flop The Cradle of Life on a flight to New Orleans. In a recent interview, Livingstone says:

Nothing's been signed yet and we still need to hire a script writer. The film's not been green lit yet, so for me it'd be ideal to tie in a movie script with a game script at the same time, to have them both in harmony rather than out of kilter—which has happened in the past.

Why don't we concentrate more on that script and less on tying it in with a game, okay?
