So they didn't have a brand new song for FFXIII; they are using a song that already exists? That kind of sucks. I'm a sucker for the songs that I know have been written with a game in mind. #finalfantasyxiii
@Spoony Bard: No, they DO have a brand new song... for the Japanese release. They just aren't going to use it here. Because, you know, the games with Japanese music have been such failures in the past.... -_- #finalfantasyxiii
Actually, the release date makes sense for all involved. It says "3.9.2010". While North Americans see that as "March 9th", Europeans read it as "September 3rd", which is coincidentally a Friday, which is not exactly an odd day to release a big game. All in all, the dates make sense, no? I mean, such a big (Square Enix) game couldn't possibly release in both areas on the same day, right? #finalfantasyxiii

@andrewwyatt: I feel like he specified their dates would be the same date, but if they did want the info received in the way you're thinking it would be a fairly crafty. #finalfantasyxiii
@SublimeAndEtc: He does say "I bet you wanna know the North American and European release date", so yes, they'll likely be on the same day. Sony might just want to keep in mind, though, that dates are read differently in different countries.
It's good to see Europe get a Square Enix game in a timely manner, though, speaking even as an American. The last time that happened was The World Ends With You, which was strangely released in Europe before North America, a rare treat for the Euros. #finalfantasyxiii
@Vecha: One more Month: Nope, the Japanese version has its own theme song. What sucks, though, is that other songs throughout the game will allude to the orchestrations of THAT song, but we won't hear that one... #finalfantasyxiii
@Vecha: One more Month: [www.n4g.com]
The English theme song will be completely different from the Japanese. I am so disappointed with how SE try to westernize FF when the best thing to do is just throw in an english sub and dub as an OPTION. #finalfantasyxiii
Unless there's an even grander idea brewing behind the scene somewhere, I'm starting to believe more and more in rumors of Wada jumping ship after this fiscal year. It's unusual enough that Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy numbered titles are released in the same fiscal year; now the international release is also being tucked away in that same basket. This year, at least, will probably be record-breaking for the folks at Square-Enix.
With FF14 a far cry from becoming a guaranteed hit (just look at how a lot of MMO sequels fare), current profit leader FF11 making a steady decline, Crystal Chronicle series generating dismal sales, and supposed FF spinoff moneymakers Versus/Agito/whatever nowhere in sight, the timing certainly does seem right to grab that golden parachute. #finalfantasyxiii
@excel_excel: probably september 3rd for europe, like someone said above in the states we see it at march 9th but europe sees it at september 3rd. #finalfantasyxiii
But agreed for the most part. It'd be so awesome if it was March for us in PAL zones too. Not awesome for my PS3 though, that'll have an endless barrage of play time between that and Gran Turismo 5 to put up with though. #finalfantasyxiii
Oh, man, I must really love FFXIII if I was willing to put up with that strange video for 20 seconds of new footage (also known as "a never before seen look").
Also, what mix of irony and chutzpah does it take to refer to your release as "the most anticipated of all time" 2 days after MW2 has smashed every record and set a bar that might never be reached? We all know Final Fantasy is popular, but really, Douchy McGee?
@The Cap'n: Going out on a limb, but if i know SQuenix they did not film, edit and produce this 5 minute montage in the last 2 days...
Based on their current track record and release schedules, this video was put into production sometime circa Final Fantasy 8's release... #finalfantasyxiii
@rymas1: Oh obviously. The video probably was commissioned just before the game was.
Still, you'd think that someone in the Squeenix offices would be like 'we're going to look like morons if we show a video with a line like that. Why don't we just tell the media at a press conference, or with a press release.'
Or they could've bumped up the announcement to last friday before MW2 happened.
Side note: I really hope they've started on FF15 by now. I was kinda hoping to get 2 big FF games out of my current gen of consoles. If they're waiting until after the release to start on FF15, we probably won't see it this gen or next gen :) #finalfantasyxiii
@The Cap'n: I don't think FF15 will be out anytime soon. You want to have 2 big FF games? Isn't FF13 Versus big enough? Unless you don't have a ps3 though. Btw, i am not starting a console war shit here. #finalfantasyxiii
@wanteddog: I was being facetious with my remark. I don't really expect it. I'd like it to happen, but I'm not holding my breath. But I'm not on the Versus train either, no. I even have a PS3, but I don't really care. #finalfantasyxiii
1. The main character in FFXIII will be the most powerful of the entire series? (not that power is easily quantifiable)
2. It will be the first time a core FF game runs at HD resolutions?
3. It will be the first real FF game to get an original PC release without being an afterthought (or an MMO)?
4. It will be developed for the PC BEFORE being modified for the 360 so it won't be a gimped 360 port?
Not that it's new information or anything, but I just couldn't help but recap some of what revitalizes my interest.
Sounds pretty freaking good to me. The Last Remnant gave me a taste of what decent Square Enix on the PC is like, and it was great, but I did keep wishing it was an FF type/scale game. FFXIII won't be using the same engine as TLR, but I'm confident they'll still be able to pull off a great PC release. #finalfantasyxiii
@CMay: 1. He said "most powerful female," in a feminist sense, I think, not like she does 999,999 damage or something.
2. Yes
3. Doubtful. Nothing about a PC release has been announced, and it's unlikely they're going to spring one just a month or two before the game is released.
4. I wouldn't worry about it being a gimped 360 port. It's much more likely to be a gimped PS3 port. #finalfantasyxiii
@DrunkAus: You know, I may be mistaken. There was an old Kotaku article claiming that it would get a PC release, but it was updated afterwards to correct that it was only being developed on the PC and a PC release wasn't currently planned.
That said, I find it hard to believe that they wouldn't take advantage of all of that existing effort and release it eventually. Maybe they're worried about piracy and if they announce a PC version early then people will skip out on the consoles and just pirate it?
Was planning to get it for the 360 or PS3 as well anyway, but hopefully we will still see a Windows release. Sorry about the false alarm, if I could bury my comment to limit confusion I would. :)
How odd. Final Fantasy XIII gets a song from a internationally acclaimed singer, and they reveal the release date, yet no one seems to be happy. Color me confused. #finalfantasyxiii
@Pessimippopotamus:
-march isnt december
-leona lewis is just es internationally acclaimed as baseballworldseries which just contains us baseball teams.
you'll never get all people happy
there are still things i'll wholeheartedly whine with cheese about #finalfantasyxiii
@Pessimippopotamus: It's a Final Fantasy game. If people were happy about anything related to Final Fantasy, I would probably have a heart attack from shock.
You know they're already planning on buying it. They always do. It's like the Modern Warfare boycotters - they won't actually stop playing the games, they'll just bitch about hating them lest they lose their cred. #finalfantasyxiii
@Vylen: "In February 2007, Lewis signed a £5 million ($9.7 million) five-album contract in the United States with Clive Davis's record label, J Records,[16] and showcased for several American music executives.[16][17][18] A press release was sent out revealing that Cowell and Davis would work together in a first-of-its-kind partnership on both the song and producer selection for Lewis's debut album, entitled Spirit,[19] which was released in November 2007. The album entered both the Irish Albums Chart and the UK Albums Chart at number one, becoming the fastest-selling debut album in both countries, and the United Kingdom's fourth fastest selling album of all time.[20][21][22] It was released in several other nations in January 2008, and went to number one in New Zealand, Australia, Austria, Germany, South Africa and Switzerland.[23] It was released in the United States in April 2008 and entered the Billboard 200 at number one, making Lewis the first British artist to reach number one with a debut album." #finalfantasyxiii
