@will52: So, do those of us who only want to play SFIV against other human beings, perhaps on release-day evening, get a discount on the cover price on the grounds we're only going to be able to play with half the characters?
It's a multiplayer game, its primary use is in a multiplayer context. It's nothing but plain annoying to not be able to play the whole multiplayer game as advertised without having to put hours into the single-player game first.
It's an endemic problem, and lots of games even outside the fighting genre have it - Guitar Hero World Tour, for example. That doesn't mean it's not a problem - the only people I've met who don't think it's an issue are the ones who like to feel superior because they've already invested the time. Those people would do well to remember that not everyone has the free time they do, and that when they get supercilious about it the rest of us just presume they're a cock.
The hardest part is getting Seth, mostly because it just takes so damn long to beat the game with every character. Still, my OCD about having one blank spot on the character select screen helped me push through the pain.
I'm new to Street Fighter, and I'm having a terrible time unlocking the final three characters. I always mess up at some point, usually to Seth, even on easiest.
@Squamden: Who are you playing as? Seth's AI is rather dumb, so you should manage to beat him staying inside mid-range and using low roundhouses. If you're a weaker/smaller character, Seth is prone to focus attacks as well.
I also used the whole "Easiest" method. Set it on Easiest, one round, 99 seconds or unlimited time. Picked Ryu, Heavy Jump kick into a heavy sweep, repeat...etc.
Of course, a "true" Street Fighter competitor may want to do it in the hardest way possible...but it's just not fun having to stress over Seth in order to unlock a new character. Especially when I'm playing with someone I can't play with.
You can apparently fight Gouken if you lose a round against Seth. I was playing with Sakura on default (medium difficulty and 3 round fights) last night, met all the other requirements but dropped the second round to Seth and Gouken still came out and challenged me.
@rwooooo: Yeah, those are easy requirements if a bit obscure. The only real monkey wrench is getting by Seth without dying against his powered-up form.
Seth is pretty broken. i don't like using half of the characters and find that fighting Seth with many of them is downright frustrating- regardless of difficulty. i just don't think it's even worth unlocking Akuma and Gouken anymore. i'll just wait until Capcom let's us download an "unlock all character" patch. unless it costs more than 5 bucks.
this game is fun enough without the hassle of forcing myself to go insane for 3 hours trying to beat Seth with Blanka or Dhalsim.
feel free to insult my lack of skills. i'm actually not that bad at street fighter- i just don't have the patience for this kind of bullshit anymore. if they were going to make such an obnoxious last boss for the Arcade mode (totally forgiveable)- then they shouldn't have locked away 1/3 of the character roster (not easily forgiven). :(
@laser beams: I've found that the easiet way to beat Seth is with Zangief -- who'd have thunk it?. Simply do his spinning arm lariat special move over and over. I got a "perfect" on Seth doing that on easiest settings. It's super easy.
In fact, it works for nearly every match with Zangief on easy. If you look at all of the top survival scores on the online leaderboards, you'll see that everyone uses Zangief.
@kidphat: Do you not watch the cutscenes in the game? After the first win, Seth announces that he is going to consume his bastard juice. If you play the game capped at a single round per match, he begins with his thirst for cheapness already quenched.

After looking at the pic, it really could've gone either way. He does kinda look like a Gears alien with a particuliarly unfortunate haircut.

I'm doubtful she played much Brawl either. Character unlocks in Brawl take way more time to get.

Is it only me or does he seem incredibly easy on round one and then incredibly cheap on other rounds?
