Just which console is still up in the air. The Australian rating simply says "multiplatform", while the Korean one was submitted by Sony Computer Entertainment.

Safest bet? Like the recent re-releases of Outrun and Virtual On, this will probably be a digital download, appearing on at least the PSN, but likely Xbox Live Arcade as well.

After Burner Climax was previously an arcade-only game, released in Japan in 2006. It was, and still is, a gorgeous game. Has very, very blue skies.

Hideki Kamiya, looks like you just got your wish.

<![CDATA[This Is That Secret Tiny Sega Arcade Cabinet]]> After Burner? Shocking Back in February, a series of SEGA mini deluxe cabinets was announced:

Thunder Blade, Space Harrier, Out Run, Hang On and a hidden "SECRET" cabinet. That oh-so-mysterious cabinet is on display at Japan's Shizuoka Hobby Show — along with the others.

These classic cabinet models will be out this August in The Land of the Rising Sun. Check the link below for more pics.

<![CDATA[New After Burner Revealed! *Does Barrel Roll*]]>

1UP has an exclusive look at Sega's upcoming PSP arcadey jet shooter, After Burner: Black Falcon. As I spent a good portion of my pre-teens locked onto the arcade original, I was super psyched to hear about the game, especially after the orgasmically amazing After Burner Climax, Sega's recent arcade sequel.

The game is currently under development at Planet Moon, creators of Infected, the not-too-bad shooter for the PSP. I suppose that's okay, but here's what I find more troubling than Sega farming out the game's development.

Players can look for these touches in what Stevenson refers to as "a sprinkling of story and character development." [...] "We tried to go over the top and fun wherever possible," says project lead Ryan Kaufman. "The script, the characters and the story are appropriately breezy and entertaining."

Story? Character development? What in the hell? You know, I just want to shoot stuff at very high speeds and see 'splosions, guys. Don't come around these parts with your "fiction". Fortunately, it all gets much better after that, as the team talks up co-op play, plane customization, and lethal jets.

Interest: still high.

<![CDATA[After Burner to Burn PSP]]>

While we don't like to report about every damn game that gets released, this one is different. This is one is After Burner! Sega confirmed that it recently inked a deal with Planet Moon Studios for a new PSP version of the classic arcade title. Planet Moon CEO Bob Stevenson points out:

Most importantly, it's approximately 9000% more portable than the original arcade cabinet

Dubbed After Burner: Black Falcon, the game will boast 19 officially licensed, customizable planes and single-player mode with WiFi multiplayer as well. The game flies into stores spring 2007.

<![CDATA[DIY DS Lite Overclock]]>

Back before the DS came out, the Afterburner guys started quizzing the GBA emulator community (as in, the community writing emulators for playing on the GBA) about interest in a service to overclock their SPs. The theory was that this would allow everyone to play emulated SNES roms on their SP.

Obviously, that petered out when the DS was announced... but over a year later we still don't have an SNES emulator, let alone an N64 emulator. So I wonder if this Japanese guy's overclock mod for the DS Lite will have any practical applications whatsoever. He managed to get the DS to go about 1.7 times as fast, but unless you're going to pump a game through the machine that will capitalize on that, it seems little more than a curiosity.

<![CDATA[1UP Interviews Sega Arcade Boss]]> 1UP spoke with Hiroshi Kataoka, Sega Arcade bigwig responsible for the Fighting Vipers games and the newest Virtua Fighter and After Burner entries, dishes some hardcore dirt on Sega's arcade division. In addition to the Virtua Fighter 4 and 5 minutiae, Kataoka goes on about the current Japanese and American arcade markets and what he hopes to see on Nintendo's Revolution (hint: Virtua Cop and House of the Dead ports!).

Unfortunately, Kataoka gives very little info on console versions of Virtua Fighter 5 and After Burner Climax, or updates to other Sega arcade favorites but it's a good read nonetheless.
