Love the show. Will hopefully love the game. If it's as brutal and hilarious as the show, I'm in. No. Questions. Asked. DETHKLOK RULES!!!! MURDERFACE!!!!
Am I the only one who thinks that this show gives metal the wrong kind of mainstream attention, i.e. just reinforces all the negative stereotypes and removes artistic credibility?
@searanox: Probably not but metal (especially extreme metal) isn't going to get a nice happy go lucky mascot anytime soon and although the characters may be stereotyped, the stereotypes wouldn't be so clear to those outside of the metal scene. I don't see at all how the show removes artistic credibility either, care to expand?
@searanox: I think that's what Brendan Small is making fun of. The perception people have of metal, yet in the show they are the most popular band in the world. Mr. Small loves his metal music and music in general (Dwayne's band Scab in Home Movies) and he loves to play off of people's perception of things. So if you watch the show looking for all things metal, yes you may be right, but if you watch it for the comedy, it's genius. This is Spinal Tab genius.
@Schwall: I agree. I thought the same thing. I liken it to Cheech and Chong except where Tommy Chong created the stoner stereotype and used it for comedy, Brendan Small twisted the stereotypes involved in metal to comedic purposes.
@searanox: Corpsepaint and a lack of a sense of humor removes artistic credibility. That's why I love the show, it plays up the absurdity of the whole scene while taking nothing away from the music. The aesthetics of metal are irrelevant to me as long as the music is good. Conversely, bands that are all image and no talent are what give metal a bad name, not this show.
@searanox:
The real question is, are you the only one who does not catch on to the tounge and cheek comedy of them making fun of metal. It is like 50% of the show.
I don't think that the show's creators set out to rectify the good name of metal.
@Schwall: You can still watch it for comedy and catch loads of metal references. Practically every shop/store in the show references a metal band. My favorite is the fast food joint Dimmu Burger and the restaurant Burzum Burgers.
@searanox: I don't know man, the music is brilliant, and the references, both musical and cultural, are by someone who truly loves and appreciates metal.
If you can't laugh at yourself, who can you laugh at?
@roq: No, I'm pretty sure most people who watch the show know that it's a loving parody of metal. The creator made the show because he loves metal. He's involved in writing the songs on the show.
That's kind of weird. They give the show a season long hiatus, then they come back with a new season *and* a game? Does anyone else know what's up with that?
@Strangelove: Not entirely relevant, but Dethalbum II comes out this September! And yes, what you've heard is true, Dethklok is the most metal band to ever metal.
And I agree, as long as Mr. Small is involved, I'll most likely pick up a Metalocalypse game.
I know it sounds stupid, but this is the company that made SUCCESSFUL game franchises out of TMNT, XMen, The Simpsons, Bucky O'Hare, and C.O.W. Boys so they have a decent shot of not screwing it up.
A beat-em-up along those lines would be great, but my guess is konami will be tapping into it's rythm game experience.

Hell, I watch it for all the inane plotless conversations they have about how popsicles are okay to eat because they're like 80% water.

Actually the hiatus was because Brendon Small was doing a tour as Deth Klok.

I was kinda hoping Brendon Small would get involved with Brutal Legend, too. Oh well, at least now there are two metal games to look forward to.
