Oh how I wish there could be a Metroid movie but ever since that debacle called Super Mario Brothers staring John Leguizamo Nintendo has shied away from any sort of film adaptation of any Nintendo franchise.
@kyle4: I agree. The Tomb Raider movies aren't bad, nor do I think Hitman is as bad as some like to make it out to be. Even the Resident Evil movies are enjoyable in their own way.
None of them are cinematical masterpieces, but if that's what you want to see you shouldn't even go near action flicks let alone game-movies.
Now if they had sunk as low as those American teen/college flicks (American Pie, Scary Movie, House of Wax, etc.) I'd have completely agreed about game-movies being crap without exception.
I actually enjoyed quite a few of those movies. Critics really have a thing against movies simply for the sake of entertainment. Not every movie you watch needs to be a work of art and I'd rather watch any one of those films over %95 of the reality shows that see multiple season runs on television.
@Methusalah: THANK YOU! I hate it when a movie I loved got lower than 50% on some crappy reviews site just because it was "mindless" or wasn't some boring-ass five-hour talky independent piece of crap that questioned the value of humanity or some shit.
I could see Psychonauts turn into a decent movie, going into people's minds could make for some insane sequences.. But i'll get my Schäfer fix with Brutal Legend.. i'll get it good..
You know what, Silent Hill was fucking fantastic and I'm sick of hearing people talk trash about it. It was one of the very very few to capture the "feel" of its source material. Seeing the walls turn to flesh and the janitor come out of the stall was scary. I want a sequel honestly.
If you dont agree with me, I dont even want to hear your opinion. Because its wrong, and I have no time to listen to fallacious opinions.
i was just gonna say that! silent hill was pretty good. definately the best video game movie made to date and the only one i would watch again. hey remember the mario brothers movie? lolz that was weird. @(Hollow) svenhoek:
@Koda89: Agreed. I loved it. I dont know i always wondered why people expect video game movies to somehow be better then most movies. Lets be honest most movies that come out are pretty mediocre in the acting/plot department but we watch them to be entertained. As long as i enjoyed watching the movie thats all i care about. And ill be honest i had a great time seeing all the Resident Evil movies. As long as im entertained then mission success imo.
@Detre: I think the main reason is that you know what to expect. When you have played the game, you have a clear vision of what you want to see in the movie. Since most can't see the movie as something separate from the game, they hate it. I think RE sucked a little as a game-to-film. As an action movie, I love it.
More so than Gears, I'm more optimistic about the Uncharted movie only because it has some sort of story attached to it albeit not as good for "movie standards."

The problem with video game movies for me is that the story or at least the "freshness" of the story has already been told...in the video game!
So then the movie is basically struggling to bring something "fresh" to the table that was not already told as part of the game. AND yet, stay faithful enough to the game that the fanboys don't get their panties in a bunch.
Oh please don't mess this up. I can see how it could make a good game, but it would have to very ambitious. If they pump out a half-assed game I'm going to be really upset.
However, I really think this setting would lend it's self much better to an MMO, but a well done, story driven game could be really awesome as well. Maybe set it around a Hedge Knight during the Civil War or something.
The books were fantastic. I saw some people don't like that the majority of charecters get offed, I loved it. The end of Book 3 was so well written, and you totally don't even see it coming.
Book 4 was a let down till the shit hit the fan in like the last 80 pages, then it got fantastic.
@LCOS: Yeah, book 4 was a huge letdown. You could sum up the whole thing in one page - character X travels here and (dies, finds something important). Wish he stuck with the original plan to have many years pass before book 4 picks up rather than try to squeeze out another book to make some cash. Plus, I mean, how do you follow up book 3. I thought book 1 ended incredibly (it did), but book 3 was astounding.
And I hated the attempt to flesh out Cersei in book 4 by telling parts of the story from her perspective. She works much better as a mysterious, calculating figure of menace. Once you got inside her head she got a lot less interesting. (see also star wars ep2 and 3)
But enough grousing; here's hoping this game is good!
I read the first book in the series. VERY depressing, but well-written fantasy with a very interesting world to go with it. The story got to be a bit too much for me, though. I can respect an author that doesn't hold the main characters as sacred, but this guy just loves introducing characters only to pick them off by the end of the book. He also spares no detail in his descriptions, for better or for worse...
I have no idea of what kind of game they'd make based on these, but I'm not really interested. These books have the kind of story I'd only want to experience in written form.

But why the fuckitty meeow meeow fuck did they have to put in that mila jovovich character? She wasn't in any of the games!
If the movies aren't canon then really they aren't worth the resident evil name.
