Id say this generation is over when the new systems come out, not when they stop supporting it. Im saying going into the next gen, Microsoft will be the one in first place* based off their position of how this generation 'ends'
*yeah, Im not putting Nintendo in that...they are off doing their own tangential thing from the mainstream gaming. That will no doubt get some buzz, but you gotta agree that Nintendo is doing their own thing compared to Microsoft, Sony, and other traditional gaming #consoletaisen

the 360 isnt going to last more than another 3 or so years unless digital distribution gets big, because those DVDs are started to really limit things - see Forza 3 and its 2gb install disc
I still say...within 3 years we will hear of the next gen. And bear in mind, that will be 7 years that the 360 would be out and 6 for PS3. How long was PS2 out before PS3? Wasnt it like...seven years... #consoletaisen

Well I honestly think Sony has allot of work to do.
Regardless of anybodys bias towards 360 or PS3, its nothing but the truth to say that the 360 is what made the PS3 what it is today. Every major update to the PS3 is done in order to add something to it that the 360 already has. And Sony still hasn't caught up completely. The 360 launched before the PS3 yet was more "complete" at launch then the Ps3 is today.
Until Sony picks up its feet and actually competes with Xbox Live, there is no real hope for them. They need to start shiping there sytems with headsets, and need to start charging for there PSN. And if they refuse to charge, then need to dump more money into making it a comparable product.
As much as I love Uncharted 2, I think this game speaks for Sony. Not even 1 day after launch, I go to play online and it shows only 6.5k people online. Now these numbers could be off, but the time it took to join a match, and seeing players multiple times after multiple matches could very well support the low number of players.
I dont think the PS3 is a bad system, it just has very hard competition. And the only people that I would recommend it to are people that:
1) Have an HDTV
2) Have no real interest in Multiplayer
3) Are very interested in HD Movies
For people that don't meet all 3 of the above, your reason to own a PS3 over a 360 start to dwindle. #consoletaisen

However, while Sony invests in first- and second parties, Microsoft has been investing in third-parties.
The biggest threat of Natal isn't going to be the difference in controls, but the above video. Microsoft was bragging about third party sales in the article. If Sony doesn't watch out, they'll end up like Nintendo is now. #consoletaisen

MS might be bragging about their lead over the PS3, but the Wii is destroying the 360. At the same time, sure Nintendo might be destroying both the 360 and the PS3 in total sales, but does it really matter when there is an overwhelming majority of garbage released on the console every single month? #consoletaisen

I have a horrible feeling that you are right, that MS will attempt to unilaterally declare the generation over and usher in a whole brave new world.
Strange thing, is that they will actually believe it.
Of course, this will hugely increase the pressure on Natal to deliver whatever it is that they want it to deliver, and the potential for catastrophic fallout is immense.
I really wish they wouldn't do it this way - but I can see it coming. #consoletaisen

Even the system features haven't been doing it for me (even now that the most recent one actually affects me a bit, unlike netflix) haven't really grabbed me. I find myself a tad disappointed. If this feeling is common enough, with recent PS3 boosts I don't see how Microsoft will come ahead this holiday season; Modern Warfare 2 doesn't just help them out after all. Greenberg's comments seem all smoke and mirrors and a bit of bullshit. #consoletaisen

Greenburg and Tretton are two assholes in a pea pod. Both of them.
But hes right in that the 360 has a signifigant software base that they're making extreme-o moolah on. If it was the system exclusives before, its the 'looks better on a 360' thats happening now. Debatable if thats true or not, but its whats happening.
Also, keep in mind that theres many PS3 sales out there where the person has no intention of owning more than 2 or 3 PS3 games. They bought it for the 1080p Blu-Rays.

Seriously though, as a PS3 owner, I don't mind the words. Hopefully, this competition will keep Sony doing good things for the PS3. In return, Microsoft does more good things for the 360. Hopefully gamers win in the end.

This means Sony can come back next gen and make the 360 look overpriced and lacking in games for the first two years.
Competition is healthy. Getting your panties in a twist because one company is doing better than others is not. But this will fall on deaf ears, as I expect the rush of 'OH NO YOU DI'INT' fanboys will hit this article like a bomb.
Just a word of advice to the sony fanboy about to come charging in here:
Being the best at something doesn't mean you stay that way forever. And the tradeoff the 360 fans have had to deal with in exchange for having the most popular console, as well as the larger games library, is a system held together with duct tape and crazy glue.
How many people do you think are going to be crazy to rush to the launch units of the next Xbox when it launches?
(I shouldnt say that. Gen 1 PS1's were shite and I had to have mine upside down to read discs. Yet, people were out buying launch Ps2s for 500 bucks on ebay... and the same story followed with the PS3...) #consoletaisen

I have a PS3, my friend has a X360, and we come to each other house to play the exclusive game, and have fun discussing about it. I want this friendship to be last for a long time. Not to mention competitive = consumer's profit.

MS just threw money at everything. Thats not a trick, thats brute force. It worked this time around, but now that their console has a nasty reputation leftover from launch (even though it doesn't really happen to newer units), it might not the next. #consoletaisen

Look at your TV, look at cinema, listen to your radio, look at your comics, look at presidents (I'm french and not a big sarkosy fan, and remember Bush)...
People arn't good judges.
People are dumb buying machines.
And they make marketing more effective than actual work.
Up until now videogame was a young art and no gamers would buy a game without reading a review.
Now people get into stores and buy a game cause they saw on a commercial or cause it has a movie license.
See the Wii success.
There are some good games, but I'm sorry most of them suck!
People spend hours doing miis and buy 4 gamepads, in order to play half baked mini games god damn it!
Of course there are some few good items amongst the big hits (Batman Arkham Asylum as an example), as there are some good movies at holywood.
But the reason indie games his having a boom right now his clearly cause they are the only originality spring right now.
It's like iPhones.
Everybody wants an iPhone.

But still... the cotes around 'reviews' are justified.
These are commercials, telling people what they should buy to look hype (I said don't get me started on the iPhone!).
Big news about adds.
They are out there because they work on some peoples.
They didn't use to in the matter of video-games.
And as far as I 'm concerned everybody I knew by the NES area where buying there monthly magazines, and we where sharing them in order to be sure our money didn't go to waste.
These where good simple times.
Maybe they where different in France, we had fewer games translated (we had import games, fortunately). #consoletaisen
