Despite people continually dismissing the Wii, it's a great piece of hardware for both serous and casual gamers. The biggest problem is the plethora of (often full priced) terrible third party games. There *are* great games, you just have to know which ones to go for!
Single Player:
Muramasa The Demon Blade
The Conduit
Metroid Prime Triology
older but great: Twilight Princess, Mario Galaxy, Prince of Persia: Rival Swords, Resident Evil 4, Fatal Frame 4 (unfortunately only in Japanese - English translation underway!)
2 Player:
LEGO Indiana Jones 2
Resident Evil Darkside Chronicles
Dead Space Extraction
older but great: Obscure 2, Any of the LEGO titles (Indiana Jones Starwars Batman), Super Paper Mario
Multi-Player:
New Super Mario Brothers
Mariocart Wii
Super Smash Brothers Brawl
Wii Sport Resort
WiiFit
Avoid like the plague:
Ju-on: The Grude
Alone in the Dark
You know, the new Super Mario Bros for the Wii is making me finally want a Wii. That and of course Mario Galaxy. But some of these other games look really good too, especially RE: Darkside Chronicles, and Muramasa: The Demon Blade. I also want to get Fatal Frame 4 for the Wii, and the new Silent Hill game for the Wii. But now that it's gone down in price, I might considering finally getting one.
You guys forgot the Bit.Trip games on WiiWare! I played the demo of Beat, and it's fantastic! I didn't want to stop playing it! So, I guess I should buy it at some point...
From what I've heard, each game has a different play style & different controls, and they're very challenging! And the price is great at 800 Wii points per game ($8).
Maybe in the future, Kotaku should do a seperate list for Wii retail games, and downloadable games. But, then, I guess you'd need seperate lists for every console.
@PSWii2008: I played Bit.Trip Void for the first time tonight - it's stupendous, especially on a nice, bassy surround system. I play the Bit.Trip series more than any other WiiWare games in my collection.
Regardng MySims Agents - my daughter has played all of the MySims games thus far, and this was the best one to date. She was completely sucked into this one for hours on end (and then after my kid went to bed, my wife would stay up to play it!). Lots of things to do, and the humor is great, and also enjoyable for adults.
Just a reminder. This isn't meant to be a list of games you should buy. It is meant to be a guide for those looking at which games they should and shouldn't buy.
If you are considering a game for the Wii, look at the list, read the review, then make up your mind.
What you shouldn't do is break our commenting rules and get off topic or start talking about whether this is news.
I think I am going to break down and pick up a Boy and His Blob to play over the holidays. I was a huge fan of the original and the fact that it's getting next gen love is enough for me to finally pick it up.
I just hope I don't break any Wii controllers like I did with my old NES controllers over running out of jelly beans.
@Cptn.PaxtonAstypalaea(Corsair): Don't worry, the PS3 is more than enough to keep you happy over Christmas. I assure you, you will love it. The PS3 has really come into it's own and is no longer "the console that gets the crappy ports." Revel in the fact that you'll be playing Uncharted 2, Killzone, and inFamous while your friends will be exercising on the Wii Fit. ;)
@ttocs: @Fine Leather Jackets: Oh I have a Wii (and Wii Fit actually), my problem is that I have no money to buy anything, at all, and all my gifts are going to be mostly accessories for the PS3.
And I don't really have much money to buy the games myself now.
@John Weston: Have one of those too, and there are a few games I want for that too, but I pretty much already have most games I currently want for the system, also this article is about the Wii and was displaying Wii games I wanted...
@Blore07: Actually, I'm getting the Slim Bundle that comes with it. I've also told my Mum that I Really would like to get the first game, Drake's Fortune, for Christmas from somebody, ANYBODY as well... I don't like playing games out of sequence.
@Cptn.PaxtonAstypalaea(Corsair): For once, break sequence, the first is great, but I know a lot of people didnt reach the end as tbh, it did get a little tireing.
the second is a rollercoaster ride of pure balls to the wall action!
well, not pure action, there are like, 3 puzzles, and they take the whole of 30 seconds to complete, THEN ITS BACK TO ACTION FASTER THAN A MOTHERFUCKER!
@Cptn.PaxtonAstypalaea(Corsair): When I first got my PS3, goozex.com was my best friend. I traded in all the 360 games that I never wanted to play anymore and got old PS3 games people didn't want to play anymore. You're hopping on the PS3 bandwagon late in the game, so luckily for you, most gamers are getting rid of the big hits you are going to want to play (MGS4, inFamous, Killzone 2, Uncharted 1, etc.)
If trading on that site isn't your thing, there's always used games at Gamestop and/or trading in games.
@John Weston: real men get PCs, because only real men can afford them.
The same real men can also afford the Wii to get in touch with their inner child. Also because they can afford a Wii, along with the PC.
360s and PS3s are for teenagers who still depend on their parents' money.
I actually ordered a copy of this game for NES on eBay a few months ago. I've been waiting to see if remake game would live up to the quality of the original. For $40, I'm sold.
But like others have said, is there no ketchup jellybean? Easy fix for the slow blob. #aboyandhisblob
@King w00t: Oh my god. After 20 years, this is the first moment I realize what the ketchup jellybean was for. My brothers and I scratched our heads for hours over that one! I guess I just suck at puns.
@High Speed Indeed: its a complete overhaual... why would you think itd be wiiware...im actually surprised by the 40 dollar price point... i was expecting the 50 standard. #aboyandhisblob
@ch0mpchomp: Sorry, I hadn't really been paying close attention to this title. I thought it was a just a remake and therefore I assumed it was WiiWare. #aboyandhisblob
@MissAshley42: I'm sure they wouldn't like it if I said it to them, but that's the thing about speaking your mind. Someone is bound to get offended at some point. #aboyandhisblob
@High Speed Indeed: wellll you talk about "speaking your mind" yet the things you said were what's known as "wrong." there is no opinion involved in the fact that this game never was a remake, nor was it being released for WiiWare.
it's perfectly ok to not be informed of every little thing. what's not ok is to come on here and complain about "$40 for ____!?" when you have no idea what you're talking about.
now can you see why I wasn't sold on your superior rank? #aboyandhisblob
@Crash__Man: I might have bought it out of nostalgia if it were a WiiWare title. I definitely won't be paying $40 for it.
So if I'm wrong, that must mean that you're right, thus making you more deserving of the star than myself. Point proved. Whatever helps you sleep at night, you tiny little person.
So sorry for not commenting to your liking and for not deserving my star, when you so obviously do deserve one for adding so much valuable content to the discussion. And thank you so much for dictating to me what is OK and what is not OK. Please don't beat me up and take my star.
Pro-tip: Whining about not having a star or harassing commenters for having starts when you don't think they should have one will not earn you a star any more quickly. #aboyandhisblob
@High Speed Indeed: easy, big fella. no one's trying to take your precious star. and I do not want one.
I apologize if I hurt your feelings. I feel the entire "class system" for comments is what's at fault here. I mean, it completely defeats the purpose of the internet and "commenting."
instead, it's just Kotaku controlling their own spin.... and further distancing themselves from actual journalists. #aboyandhisblob

This is true... I just dont want you getting bored of Uncharted 1 and not getting round to playing through 2.
You must play it!
