So to make the issue a LITTLE bit fairer (since I feel that there is a heavy biased against Mr. Thompson on this blog), I believe some of his stances on violence and video games are true. I actually believe that playing excessively violent video games can create aggression in young children (possible through observational learning) and there is evidence to back it up (I'll have to look in my AP Psychology text book to find out the study and where it was done).

Seriously people have to go deeper (on both sides) then stating bluntly biased conclusions on a very sensitive two-sided topic. There is a case to be made on both sides so everyone show the man a little respect.

@Deus-Ex: Regardless, even if there was some validity to his claims, what he did to promote those claims wasn't just excessive but it embarassed the entire legal community. Law is founded on procedure and rules for a reason. He went above and beyond what was called for:

Anyone who sends gay porn to a judge to condemn it (even though he had to be the one to look it up first) deserves no respect from me. Once you exploitatively use the legal system to fufill political aims (as is often the case in the states) all is but lost.

Jack Thompson is the Rorschach of the gaming world... viewed as paranoid and insane even amongst his peers he is uncompromising in his methods (viewed so often as madness). He has looked at the world we have made for ourselves and is disgusted.

Leading a one man campaign against what he viewed as wrong, according to his own inflexible black and white set of values, he attempted to scrawl his own designs on our morally blank world.

The difference is that Rorschach is great and Jack is a bit of a prick.

b) Anna Nicole's case actually raised a semi-interesting legal issue (I'm sure the opportunity to oogle a Playboy bunny was TOTALLY irrevelant to their decision to grant cert).

Oh bah. I understand why they did it but if SL had existed a few years ago and I would ever have been able to get over the levelless systemless system of it, this would've stung. So they'll pop SL over the head but not MUDs? Because I'm pretty sure there are a couple MUDs out there. Surely. Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series had its own blasted game, and you didn't see them going around taking out MUDs left and right. Tarmon Gaidon, which I used to play, is still kicking after what...10 years? Yes, Jordan has passed, but even with the recent news re: his posthumous publication/writing-via-some-other-guy, his estate have let people and their grassroots WoT worlds alone. I don't see why Herr Herbert's folks have to get spiny about this. Or rather, I see the pragmatic list, but think the spirit of it ought to be different.
