My brother wants me to convert some of his band's music, I don't know if RB users will dig this sort of stuff (fast sort of stuff with changing time signatures, insane drumming and bass playing) but it is worth a shot.
The RBN is planned for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Originally, the 360 version was supposed to launch first. There was no word today about whether that is still the plan.
The last I heard, RBN was supposed to make extensive use of XNA, and there'd be a version of it for PS3 and Wii where some of the tracks are selected to appear.
Unless XNA is suddenly opened up to the other consoles, I doubt that's going to change.
@spiderweb1986: From my understanding it has less to do with XNA and more to do with the logistics MS has in place for XNA developers. Ie. Tax info, licensing agreements, etc. are all already taken into account. As an XNA developer MS already has my tax information handy, and in turn, I can legally make money from stuff sold on XBL.
I don't have that agreement with Sony, for example.
This will either change everything, or be tragically underwhelming.
I have no doubts that some amateur fan-created stuff will be great. Hell, I've played some great custom songs on GH: WT, and the music creation interface was horrible.
No, I think the strength of RBN will be determined by how many signed artists and labels take up the challenge of coding their own songs for the game. Instead of pestering Harmonix members on the RB forums to include X Y and Z bands, we can pester the PR reps for our favourite groups and tell them to upload the songs themselves!
The sheer thought of being able to play some of my indie rock faves on RB makes me grab my credit card in anticipation.
request: I would love to see a post that showed early, unused versions of games' logos, typographic design work.
Maybe a bit off topic but this is really important to me: in the rock band logo, the "a" and "n" of band *almost* meet the center, the cleft between the "o" and "c" of rock. Almost. Just a few more pixels to the right, and bam! You would be looking at a face.
Which is why it is not that way, I suppose. Always admired that logo, it's a nice bit of graphic work. It just teases my eye a bit.
@Knoxximus ver. 5.66: I'm at around 310 songs downloaded methinks. Quite worrying the amount of money I've put into RB considering I have ION Drums too.
@Knoxximus ver. 5.66: Ive got around 600 songs downloaded, including the lego rock band export, acdc export, and the 20 free songs. The rest were purchased, that's a lot of microsoft points to go around.
@Knoxximus ver. 5.66: I've got every one of the songs except for the stuff released this past week. We're talking about songs from Rock band 1, Rock band 2, Lego Rock band, the AC/DC track pack, exclusives from both the Metal and Country packs, and all the DLC available for the 360 since last week. I just need to wait for my paycheck and, hoping I have enough cash left after bills and such, grab this week's content.
@Knoxximus ver. 5.66: My neighbor is a serious Rock Band fan, and has the ion kit. My first and only experience with Rock Band was on those drums. I had no desire to try the guitar, bass, or vocals; but man! Those drums! Very fun to play with. I really felt that I could learn how to play drums, for real, with those; and was curious how it would be to play them standalone as an independent instrument.
@KatrinaBabalique: I'm guessing you guys with all the DLC to-date are automatically in the Top 100 for the Cumulative Score leaderboard? (Assuming you have played each song at least once)
@Mega-Driven: Speaking as someone who moved to real drums from RB, I can say yes, Rock Band will teach you the fundamentals, some sticking, and limb independence. The ION kit as a "real" drumkit is a bit lacking, but decent for beginning. From my experience, you outgrow your first kit fast, though.
@Knoxximus ver. 5.66: I know I'm not at the level of some here, but if you include All the RB games and DLC I'm approaching 700 songs (once I get around to exporting LegoRB).
And yes, people in this thread, I will totally play quickplay with you.
Yoko Ono may or may not be one of the *many* factors in the eventual break-up of the Beatles, but she's the one that people sure get pissed off about. It's very...interesting.

Would you guys like playing stuff like "Commander Black" and "God and Demerit Man"? We were thinking about those 2 songs.

Right now I'm sitting at 997 songs.
Next weeks songs will put me at 1003.

To say nothing of the premiums the big corporations have placed on finding Mr. Right. It's outrageous.
