@N●Gage Croal is grabbin' peels: If by "Sprited" you mean "Pixellated" then yes, it's pixellated, but it's not sprites. The character cannot be moved independently of the background. Sprites are independent, separate moving objects, detached from the background. The color palette is heavily reduced and the resolution has been cut down dramatically out of necessity of the hardware, but it is still animated video.
Essentially, what was done here is really the same essential thing as ripping a DVD and exporting for an iPod. Except, here they went from Laserdisc to GameBoy, which is a super-extreme reduction of quality.
Ah, I already got the iPhone version, so I'll be passing on this, but it's nice to see the DSi finally having emulation in the download shop. Now bring on the NES/SNES/GB/GBA games!
@Mister Jack got an iPod Touch!: Amen. Actually, what I really want (perhaps with the Wii2 and the DS-New) is the ability to transfer my Wii VC games to the DS successor to play them portably. Most of the games on the VC work better in the portable environment than on my 50 inch TV.
Great, now they made my decision tough. Do I buy the game for iPhone, where it will look far better, or for the DS, which has better controls? (Yes, I know the game's "controls" don't really need the super-accuracy of true d-pad and buttons, but it's still going to be a lot more natural to press a direction on the d-pad than a large virtual d-pad)
@liammiller18: ...not in Dragon's Lair. Dragon's Lair is a beautiful cartoon, made to be watched faithfully. While the buttons aren't tough controls, simply quick-time events.
@Dreamwriter: I got Dragon's Lair for the iPhone yesterday and it plays very well. The whole game is a quick-time event and so touchscreen controls are actually good for this game.
Also, this is one of the few games where I would say graphics are more important than the controls (four directions and an attack button). Therefore it's easy to say that the iPhone screen will render the animated sequences much better if you want a portable version of the game.
@Pretty Pink Pwnie: I really wish Kotaku had a blocklist feature. Or maybe there is one and I haven't found it yet. Either way, I'm going to go look again. Ugh.
@CynicalNinja: The only solution I can remember is JavaScript. GreaseMonkey/GreaseFire on Firefox already has a fix, but I'm not sure if it works on other browsers.
Deka is the best name. But god damn, THE EXECUTIVE? Dodged a bullet on that one. Up until now, I swore it was called the DS XL, so I think they failed.
The Dreamcast was almost called The Black Belt. Yeah.

Uh, that's clearly sprited. Rather detailed, and well-animated sprites... but still sprites.

I would really love this to be on my PSP though, even through the PSN. Space Ace as well!

Umm... I think that's the whole point of DSiWare.

Last I checked, the rule stating that adding the word "boss" to the end of anything will automatically make it rad is still unchallenged.
DSi Boss.
DSi BOSS.
See, I'm just so goddamned overwhelmed right now.

If you follow the article links, Miyamoto apparently saw a couple exclaim "Deka!" when they first saw it.
