I also notice there's an Anime connected. Is it any good, as I'm a lot more likely to be able to see that than play the game it looks to me...

I have not read (more like decipher really) a Famitsu in a while, but the last time I did, Machi was still in the readers' Top 20 favorite games of all time.

I think I'm more shocked a Sega game got a perfect score. Didn't we have a Dreamcast post a couple of hours ago?
OMG!!! Sega is entering the hardware business again! Next console to be name Sega Dream PC40!

He _is_ an excellent writer though.
And for any naysayers here, don't forget that a powerful book can beat the shit out of any other media available. Visual novels simply add a few additional elements to raise the immersion level for the reader, and add a limited amount of interactivity to the story.

And then again, I feel Famitsu has somewhat lost its credibility over the years.

I hope the former, but i believe the latter for most people.

I'm scratching my head wondering what other kind of events could bring together such an eclectic group. ;)

Its Japan.
They very well could have been all the same person, before the age of 23. A young man, who is a virus researcher, moonlights as a detective while freelance writing for the paper. And oh yeah, he's a cat. Etc.
Lest we forget the 10-15 occupations the 20 something year old cast of Resident Evil had before becoming members of STARS.

That says it all. Perfect ratings are becoming far to leniently handed out as time progresses ( 3 this year)

and you base that assumption on what facts?
oh thats right ... none.
I clearly DID play FFXII actually, and i wasnt very impressed! In fact out of most people i know who play games (im on my final year of a computer games development course so i know LOTS of gamers) it is typically regarded as good, but not fantastic. (personally, its the only final fantasy EVER i got seriously bored with by the end!, and i LOVE final fantasy).
I felt that the MMO style combat was just a bit of a miss tbh. N the story was .. i dunno.. just missing taht spark.

the MMO thing was what it was, but combat was finally something different and fun rather than the same active time battle grind for decades now, so i welcomed that. i know its doing something if im actually looking for fights rather than running for boredom, and mind you, i used to grind FF VI & VI to level 99 in the day.
but bored by the story, really? agree to disagree then, i thought it was the best since VI personally.
@Axass: yes, rat's ass. we should go back to games like VIII, right? throwaway story, negligible characters, boring combat. was that the golden age for you?

I keed. But unless its a 'Choose your Own Adventure' type novel, why would it be graded alongside video games? I understand that its released on a console, but Famitsu didn't give the Opera Browser or Everybody Votes a rating, for example.
