This would be nice if it would also support internet browsing, but I doubt the phone companies would go for a one-time fee for unlimited browsing. I think the important thing is that they should give people a choice. I would buy a wifi-only kindle in a heartbeat if they took $100 off the price. #nintendods
@robpe36: 3G for online gaming? hahaha. Folks complain about wi-fi being bad for online gaming. £G would show them what is worth complaining about. I'd prefer a ping that isn't 5digits. #nintendods
why not just make it so that it supports wimax or LTE? those will be rolled out by the time anything that might hapen will be released
dont be like sony and release a new DL based handheld that uses b wireless...
then again. the way nintendo went with the wii makes me think twice about them adopting new standards. not that i hate them or sony. i just dont like some of their decisions. like everyone else. #nintendods
@ReynaldoRiv: I have 50MBit fibre-optic at home and sit on a ginormous pipe at work. Going slower once in a while doesn't really frustrate me, somehow. #nintendods
Could a future version of the Nintendo DS be used to cook your dinner? Speaking at a analyst briefing following last week's lowered financial outlook, Nintendo's president called the Foreman Grill's delicious recipes an "option for the future."
"Only people who can cook really well can be oven owners. That doesn't fit Nintendo customers because we can't cook worth a damn," Mr Iwata said. The Foreman Grill's quick ability to grill a cheese sandwich would better suit Nintendo's customer base, he said. "In reality, if we did this it would increase the amount of food our customers would eat, and customers would complain about Nintendo making them fatter, but it is one option for the future."
I don't see any problem with the handheld's current inability to cook a hamburger, but then again I rarely eat anything other than powerbars these days. I supposed if you want to be able to eat a hot sandwich while training your Pokemons, having a Foreman Grill is certainly one way to do it. Would you pay more for a grilling enabled DS? #nintendods
@Komrade Kayce: That's a grill Komrade. I don't know what you ruskies do with grills but here in America home, home on the range where the deer and the antelope light up fat Cuban cigars and speed across the southern states in a moonshine run grilling is for men.
Clearly you'll be given a free copy of Grill Papa and a 25% off discount coupon for fertilizer. #nintendods
Thats an indoor grill. Made by a Japanese company.
If you're putting your steaks onto that thing while chomping cigars and shooting wild game with the gun in your left hand, then I'm more yank than you are. ;) #nintendods
@ak-blanc: See, peopel say that, but I look at that picture. I look at my PS3 . I take of my glasses, I rub my eyes. I still can't see it.

deannbmmv ( despite it saying my name to the left, I thought I'd add this little footer that actually really annoys people, its a few pixels of wasted space. you know you doing that all the time is probably using up several trees worth of energy to have typed, downloaded and displayed on the screen of everyone who reads this article? I know the irony that this little bit is doing the same, but I'll only be doing this once, you've put it on the end of nearly every single one of your comments) #nintendods
@deanbmmv: I'm very sorry that stating my 2-letter name at the end of my posts is such an annoyance to you or others. That wasn't the point, I hope you know.
I'm just used to doing that in mails/forums/blogs/whatever and it being that short kind of negates your environmental argument since many people just have longer nicknames.
Anyway, as a mark of respect to you (even though you kind of talk to me like dirt when you don't even know me), I'll place it on my last line of text instead of adding a few lines which - I'll agree to that - aren't of a big interest. Hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me. [peace.ak] #nintendods
@ak-blanc: Sorry if I sound like a dick. Not meaning to be. :/
Just with the silly layout of narrow comment section adding an extra 3 lines on the end just for a signature is a bit pointless. I'm not being too serious with the comment, especially the environmental thing :P
So yes, I do forgive you, and the [peace.ak] is a nice improvement. Even if in 20 redwoods will die from it :D
(Though I am being a dick with sereal. "fail" is even worse than three lines for a sig) #nintendods
3G only to buy games?, that's what I call consumerism. How come you need to buy a game so bad that you cannot wait to get home or find a WiFi spot to buy a game? Oh!, because then you will have time to meditate on the pros and cons of the purchase and you may end up not buying it!
Seriously, you can do more things with your life apart from buying things. #nintendods
@MichaelPalin: It would be great for older, occasional gamers, like my dad, who's in his sixties, and doesn't have a wireless network, would never go to a cafe to 'do the wi-fi'. Which is the same reason the Kindle is popular. The PSP is marketed to a fairly tech savvy crowd. The DS, not so much. #nintendods
Suddenly PSP2 is using the Rachael Android interface mixed with XMB. Multitouch screen, 16gb and 32gb internal memory, memory card support, and USB 2.0/3.0 support!!
But wait! Feel like going traditional? Dual analog nubs, d-pad, and face buttons plus L1/L2 and R1/R2! Just slide the gorgeous screen up and take hold of your gaming!
3G support, ad-hoc, bluetooth, the works!
Except that'd be smart and Sony doesn't do smart with handhelds, only Nintendo does. #nintendods
@Black-Dog-Howls: The PSP will never have Android. Sony already has a hard enough time with developers being turned off the platform because of rampant piracy. An open source OS would be way too easy to hack. #nintendods
I don't think it would be a good idea at all.
Kindle can use Whispernet and no monthly fees because a book is only a few KB. DS games can be as big as 4GB.
I think the best option would be include 3G, but just roll the 3G charge into the cost of the download. I pay like 30p for a days 3G access PAYG style. So 30p ontop wouldn't be an over bearing charge (unless you get like a game a day, in which case it gets fairly expensive, but so does the game a day)
Also 3G coverage is a bit shoddy. At least you have Wi-Fi acces in your own home. You can't get your own personal 3G accces at home with a router. If you're not covered by 3G, then you just don't get 3G. #nintendods
@Slagathorian: Woops.
bits !=bytes :P
it's 512mb max limit aka 4gigabits.
Still, that's half a gig, nowhere near the few kb of a book. Even smaller games will take a while to download over 3G.
I would really like this. My DS is stupid and does not want to connect to my home wifi half the time, and the public access points in my town are as slow as hell, so this would definitely be cool. #nintendods
@FutureShock: I hate the fact that you have to have an essentially non-secured network setup to connect your DS via wifi, or use the Nintendo WiFi USB dongle. Given how little I've wanted to actually use WiFi on my DS, it didn't bug me too much, but the couple times I wanted to both myself and my buddy were SOL :/ #nintendods
@FutureShock: @Chrystolis: I have a secure network and I've had no problems connecting with my DS. Some wireless routers are more supported than others. Maybe that's your issue. I think there is a list on the Nintendo website. #nintendods
@anabbeynormality: Hmm, it looks like it may have become more acceptable of network security methods with the DSi, but for older models and games I remember finding that if your network was secured, it had to be using WEP or else you needed the Nintendo WiFi USB dongle. I was considering WEP to be essentially non-secured in my response :x #nintendods
Until they make software specific to that version of the DS.
I give you, 'You wont be able to play New Super Mario Bros on that Phat DS' and 'DSiWare' and 'DSi only software'.
Multiple DS'es are okay until you wind up with handheld exclusivity from the same manufacturer. What if some Wii games could be played only on a Wii, and others would only work in the newer, Blue Wii? Or the different Red Wii?
3G is a bit too slow for me, personally, and I'm not gonna find myself in a situation where I can't absolutely wait to get home or hotspot to download a game.
While 3g is awesome, ANOTHER DS model? Do we really need another DS model? Save it for the future.
BTW, I own a kindle and the 3g is awesome, but for online purchases only does seem a little unnecessary. I've been at home every time I've bought something.
yes, put it out next week, and then the revision a month later. i think that should be their thing now, release a new piece of hardware every month. screw the games. #nintendods
@THEMISSING: Its all about having the latest cool hardware to take pictures and record tiny voice clips on nowadays, didnt you get the memo? no one plays videogames anymore! #nintendods
