I downloaded the XBLA demo for this the other night. I enjoyed it, however all the writing in the game was in Czech. Am I the only one with this problem?
@ebslater: No, I'm sure there are others who didn't bother to select your language as the game prompts you to do before entering the game. :p #axelpixel
I've been waiting for this for quite a while now, and the demo is awesome (I'm buying it later tonight or tomorrow). Amanita's games are always awesome, and I expect nothing less for this. The game is $20 and it also includes a soundtrack. #axelpixel
@geiko: Ha I was going to just post a comment saying I was going to wait for Machinarium. Cant believe I didn't know it was coming out today. #axelpixel
I'm filled with nerd-rage that they blatantly ripped off the art style that Amanita Design was using for their Samorost games. They even directly took the dog character. Compare the art and dog in: [amanita-design.net] [www.axelandpixelgame.com]
I've seen no indication that the two developers are related, and trust me I've looked.
@peter000001002003004005: They're not going from the credits and looking for matches against the Amanita team. It's obvious that Silver Wish was inspired by Amanita in making this game, but then perhaps there is a popular Czech style which is the real influence of both?
I can't see getting all nerd-ragey about it. I agree the dog is similar looking, but I can find dozens if not hundreds of dogs drawn on-line in that style. It certainly doesn't help that it's in a game quite similar to an existing product, but at no point in playing Axel & Pixel did I find myself thinking this was a talentless rip-off. #axelpixel
I really hate the idea of an "indie games initiative." It goes against the idea of it being indie in the first place. I mean, a big company can't make an indie game. It's a big company. And specifically saying, "We're going to go out and make indie games" is really dumb because the term indie refers to who and how it's being made, not what the game ends up being.
In any case, I won't be able to try this game out until my 360 gets back from Microsoft. I like the look of it though. #axelpixel
@Ueziel: I tend to agree but also disagree. Indie does refer to being independent from major labels or corporations. However it is developed by Silver Wish Games which is the Indie part of it all. The publisher being 2k games is simply a means of getting it out there. #axelpixel
@Rampage: Except accepting help from 2K means it's no longer indie. They paid for part of it and are paying for its distribution. Now it is no longer indie. There's no halfway on this. It's either done completely independently and is indie or it gets a big company's help and isn't. #axelpixel
@Kobun: I would disagree. There's also no promise that part of their development money did not come from their publisher, especially considering this is an "indie game initiative." If they received any help in funding from anyone, it's not indie. #axelpixel
@Kobun: The credits mentioned names like Ivan Kratochvíl and Martin Zavřel. Those guys work at 2K Czech, hardly indie company. Then again they do seem to have few other sidejobs like writing reviews. #axelpixel
@uzivatel: I don't see it any differently than 2D Boy which are two former EA employees. World of Goo began while employed by EA, but that doesn't somehow make it any less "indie."
@Creative: I completely agree, and I believe your name gives you seniority in this topic. :p #axelpixel
@ShatterTime: That'd be a good price for this because it is a very short and easy game. I don't regret my purchase since it is an entertaining ride, but since Axel & Pixel essentially gives you the answers and the adventure is comprised of a series of self-contained rooms, there's little room for exploring or improvisation as in a LucasArts/Sierra game. #axelpixel
Yes. See, MS DOES do good every once in a blue. For every 12 FPSs, we get 3 to 4 unique platformers/point & clickers. I can live with that ratio. XBLA might be my favorite thing to come out of this gen. I feel kinda bad for the PS3-only peeps that are hungry for these types of games.
@guymanbro: Don't feel too badly. We've got echochrome, PixelJunk: Eden, Flower, LocoRoco and Noby Noby Boy to keep us busy. And plenty more on the way :)
