Commenter Roth is wondering if he's the kind of guy that would enjoy playing the Uncharted series, but he doesn't want to be sold; in today's Speak Up on Kotaku, he wants to know what you hate about the franchise.
Alright, I'm just going to ask this simply:
Fans of Uncharted, what do you like about it?
More importantly, what do you nay-sayers dislike?
I'm trying to get an idea of how much I might enjoy the series, on the whole and in particular areas. I love a good story, although gameplay has always been the defining factor for me with video games. Some possibly relevant examples:
1) I enjoyed Metal Gear Solid (only played the first one so far, but, well), which struck a good balance of forced-scenario and player-improvisation.
2) Metroid Prime never rang true with me because you went around doing stuff to blatantly predefined mechanisms instead of blowing holes in floors and "experimenting" your way through an unguided labyrinth.
3) Similarly, I liked Super Mario 64 way more than Super Mario Galaxy because the latter didn't let you run around a whole world freely and without specific means of progression (read: insanely specialized powerups and course sections).
Any and all feedback would be much appreciated. (Unless you're dropping in to tell me 2D Metroid sucks.)
