The core in question is victim to plasma absorption without retribution. The Draxan Corporation, a subsurface Audivan dwelling weapons manufacturer, has been using core plasma in combination with military technologies inside of the planet for centuries.

A boost in development occured after the Great War, when the countries of Audiva discovered civilizations above the crust of their massive world. A larger war ensued.

In turn rose concern that with lack of replenishment the core may fail in the coming years and leave both Sunder and Audiva a cold and desolate planet.
