Microsoft confirmed today that game studio Digital Anvil is being shuttered by the end of January.

The Microsoft owned studio is best known for Starlancer and Conquest: Frontier Wars and based in Austin, Texas. Msoft says they are working with the employees to place each team member in a position on the Microsoft Game Studios team in Redmond if they so choose, a spokeswoman told me.

The studio, which was purchased in 2000, is set to be shut down by Jan 31.
