It's time to put a stop to console wars. It's time to listen to other's opinions on games. It's time to come together and accept each other for sharing a common interest.
In this day and age things are changing. Music is changing. Television is changing. and yes, even Games are changing.
But that does not mean we have to split ourselves apart just because a certain genre isn't what it used to be, or because someone enjoys a game that is a competitor of your favorite game in a certain genre.
Gamers as a whole need to stick together. If we fight each other off we're going to go at war with each other. Competition is good, but do we need to hate each other?
So what, someone plays on an Xbox360? So what, someone plays on a Wii? So what, someone plays on a PS3?
They're still sharing an interest with you. Video games.
Remember when you were a kid and you would go to your friend's house to play their games because they had a console you didn't have? Have you forgotten the joys that console gave you, even though you didn't own it?
I remember when I was but a little beefy. I used to go to my cousin's house to play his Nintendo64. Back at my house we had a PS1. I loved both of these consoles even though they were competitors. They each offered something different for me, but the difference wasn't a bad thing. Not at all. Nintendo64 had fun childish games that kept me holding on to my younger years of youth. The PS1 had more serious games and some were more graphic. They scared me, but I still enjoyed it. Just as I still enjoyed the Nintendo64 games.
I never grew out of one and stuck to the other. I played both, enjoyed both for what they offered, and like that I had a variety of games to play. Sure there were some games I didn't enjoy, but I'm sure someone did and I can respect that.
So why can't we respect that this generation? PS3, Xbox360, Wii, even PC or handhelds. They're all good in their own ways. One may look better. Another may have franchises you know and love. The other may have features that you can use for more than just gaming.
But really, is any one console better than the other? Is any game truly better than another?
Maybe you just want to spread your love for a certain game or console. If so, then why do it in such a harsh manner? Be kind and tell someone the details. Don't tell them that your way is the only way to go. Try to acknowledge that they enjoy what they play for a reason, just as you enjoy what you play for your own reasons. Ease them into the things you like and you may change someone's opinion, but being rude isn't getting anyone anywhere and it's only tearing us apart.
So please. Educate your fellow gamers. Don't make them ragequit.
@ifarah12: I used to go over there pretty much every weekend to play games. We loved a lot of the same games and we bought new games as a pair. We both saved our money, went to the store, and pooled our money together or (later in life) traded in old games (that we honestly didn't like, we kept games we loved) to get a new game. Found many a great game doing this.
@Manly McBeeferton: im tired of 360 gamers, theyre dicks and are the trolliest of fanboys! No to mention theyr just stupid, not saying they all are,but it seems the majority are.Whenever i play Reach i just ignoe the people or mute them, its horrible.
@Manly McBeeferton: That was a wonderful thing that you wrote but it sucks that blind fanboys that come across it won't learn anything. Regardless, I would promote this comment if you weren't already a star commenter. :P Good post!
@Manly McBeeferton: You have used logic. As such you are now labeled 'gay' by them and they are spreading messages that you quote unquote "like it from behind" and that you "suck".
@Manly McBeeferton: Ah yes, I remembered when we rode our bikes to downtown to fight in Street Fighter Tournaments in SNES, or the boys came to my home to play Sega Genesis and did Dragon Ball tournaments, I also remembered when I saw friend of mine try to finish NES version of GI JOE, I cheer him from behind and it was a celebration when he defeat cobra commander. Good times good times.
Now everything is serious business, where all the fun go? maybe it still here, but when we try to discuss stuff normally fanboys will jump in to the discussions and start the flame.
@Manly McBeeferton: Thank you. Fanboys suck, period. What is the point of being a fanboy, anyway?
Do you get perks? No. Does Nintendo/Sony/Microsoft support you financially? Nope. Will Nintendo/Sony/Microsoft personally call you to wish your Happy Birthday? Ha. Will Nintendo/Sony/Microsoft be sending flowers to your funeral? Nada.
I used to be the biggest Nintendo fanboy as a kid and in my early teens. Defended them to the end and thought if you didn't play Nintendo games you were functionally retarded.
Then one day I woke up. Being a fanboy does nothing but hamper the great gaming a person could have. Being a fanboy gamer is the worst kind of gamer because you miss out on a lot of things due to YOUR OWN ignorance. Ever since, I never looked back. I still like Nintendo, but also Sony and Microsoft. All 3 companies put out great games and denying so is wrong. Also, no company is perfect either. Nintendo says just as many stupid statements as Sony and Microsoft and vice versa.
I think of gaming as restaurants:
If you were to go to only one place and you will burn yourself out on the food after awhile. However, no one ever said that you couldn't go to other places and try new food. It's not set in stone that you must eat all your food in one place so why limit yourself? That's right, you shouldn't.
@Manly McBeeferton: I didn't have my own console as a kid. I had a Game Boy, but that hardly compared. I fondly remember every neighbor kid that I played video games with, because each of them had a different console. The one down the street had an N64. He moved a mile or so away, but I'd still bike over there. The one down the street the other way had a PlayStation, as well as a bunch of Game Boy games I would borrow. The kid at the top of a nearby hill had a Sega Saturn and a personal computer. Truly, he fit his position as king of the hill in that neighborhood.
Also, there were LEGOs. Video games are great, but I can't fondly recall childhood and forget about the LEGOs.
I miss that neighborhood. I only lived there for a few years, but those were some fun years. Probably the best of my childhood.
@Manly McBeeferton: The big thing about console wars is, competition. With this competition, company's will try to out-do each other to make better and cheaper consoles. We shouldn't pledge our loyalty to one console, but we also shouldn't wish for one console. This competition led the PS3 to an amazing price drop, had Microsoft make Kinect and had Nintendo, well, do something. We can't wish away other companies for one console because everything would be too expensive. A single console could cost you $600 with games reaching $70-$100. With this competition we can get better products and better prices. It's simple capitalism. However, fanboys are stupid and should no longer exist.
Lend me your ear.

Casual gamers aren't hurting anyone.
We need to have a big tent if we ever want to garner mainstream respect.
