Cwi Nqani's brush with video game greatness could've been mapped on the plot points of The Air Up There, Cool Runnings or The Gods Must Be Crazy or really any shallow movie where people from different cultures collide in an explosion of hilarity. As reported by CNN, the 32-year-old was selling his rural ethnic group's crafts in Namibia's capital city of Windhoek next to a tent where a World Cyber Games representative was hosting the country's national championships. Despite never seeing or playing digital games before, Nqani was the only person to play the Asphalt 6 mobile racing game, which automatically qualified him for a spot in the world finals. Those finals happened a week ago. More »

Sony has mentioned the PS3 will have a ten year life-span over and over again. The company is backing the console for the long haul. Sony has stated that's why the console uses new technology like Blu-ray. Shouldn't that mean Blu-ray will have a long shelf life? No, says a Samsung UK exec. Earlier today, a tipster who wished to remain anonymous sent us the above pic, something he claimed was the Samsung "X-Series" LCD TV. According to the tipster, the television would be the "first on market" to integrate Xbox 360 hardware when it shipped this November in the United States and Europe. The TV was purported to include four USB ports, 512 MB of hard drive space(?) and a "ring of light" style power button. It even came with a model number (XS40R360A) for maximum believability. More »

Second place mobile manufacturer Samsung has revealed a Second Life client for their phones that will allow the relatively small horde of visitors to the virtual world and their legion of alts access to the grid and related services wherever and whenever the whole thing hasn't crashed. This is a monumentally bad idea. As a Second Life resident for nearly a year now, I know people who only leave the world in order to buy groceries, and some of them already carry their laptops around when they do that, just in case they catch a stray wireless signal. We don't need to be able to connect to SL from anywhere. Sure, you'll be able to have quickie unicorn cybersex in the bathroom at work, but at what cost? More »

Every now and again there comes a vacuum so appealing that we're almost tempted to clean. Samsung's SC9540 vacuum looks surprisingly like the makers of Spartan armor have been reselling their prototype molds to alternative industries. Dubbed "the strong, silent type" on Samsung's site, we're sure that the design and marketing are both coincidental...unless you start seeing vacuum cleaners popping up on Mt. Dew. More »

At CES, Samsung is showing off the "World's First 3D Ready Plasma TV" complete with three-dimensional versions of Madden NFL 08 and Need For Speed ProStreet. After watching another CES attendee take the Samsung—and its required 3D goggles—for a spin, seemingly walking away unimpressed, I decided to take the wheel. After picking my Volkswagen GT and hitting the track, the goggle shutters kicked in, going into full 3D mode. More »

The above image, uncovered by our Gizmodo brothers, is from a Samsung presentation showcasing the company's 60GB 1.8-inch hard drives. While this isn't exactly confirmation that such a device currently exists, the continuing rumors and unlikely situation that such a slide would be shown without such a product in the works lead us (me) to believe we'll see an announcement soon. More »

Black Xbox 360 In The Wild?

A few days earlier, we, along with everyone else on earth, reported that there apparently was a black Xbox 360 coming our way. And now, pics of a smoked matte black 360 have hit the web. This console apparently was present at a Samsung-Microsoft event in Seattle and used to demonstrate connectivity between LCD screens and the 360 engine. Microsoft PR is still calling the black 360 console "pure speculation." Of course dev kits are black, so this might be that, but then again, it might be the real deal. Brian Ashcraft More »

Korean electronics giant Samsung announced that its Blu-ray Player BD-P1000 will be pushed back in until autumn. Recent reports suggested that while the Sony and Pioneer Blu-ray machines had been pushed back, the Samsung unit was still on time. This seems no longer to be the case. More »

Big brother site Gizmodo reports that Sony has quietly pushed back the BDP-S1 Blu-ray Disc Player on its Sony Style website until "on or about August 15, 2006." The player was scheduled for the late June rollout. The first discs will make their appearance then, along with Samsung's first Blu-ray machine. How and if this will impact Sony's Blu-ray computer, the PlayStation 3, isn't yet know. Brian Ashcraft More »

Word on the street is that Sony's planning to release a version of its PSP that uses an 8 GB Samsung NAND flash. Recent reports do state that negotiations have broken down between the two companies. Moreover, Sony wouldn't use the NAND flash, but instead would go with a microdrive. Market sources say on the contrary, and that Sony's going with NAND. More »

This Wednesday, the final round of the WCG started in Singapore. Even though it is one of the largest of its kind, the event does not include PlayStation titles in the competition. According to the Korea Times, Sony feels uncomfortable with the whole setup as the World Cyber Games is organized by a South Korean Samsung subsidiary. More »
