It finally seems like the 3DS has gotten its legs underneath it, even as the Wii's glory days fade further into the rear view. But there's an unspecified while yet until the Wii U hits retail shelves and Nintendo's still got a bunch of software coming on the home console and handheld fronts. The company's released a partial list of games that will be out in early 2012 and highlights include Kid Icarus: Uprising, Resident Evil Revelations and Rhythm Heaven Fever. It might not be the November 7th promised by Luke's pre-order, but the official release date for the Xbox 360 version of Rock Band 2 in Europe is definitely falling on this side of Christmas. As if summoned by Plunkett's scorn, MTV, Harmonix, and EA have announced the official release date for the sequel to the all-too-recently released rhythm game. November 14th is the date that Europeans and United Kingdominians will be able to get their hands on the disc-only version of the game, priced at €69.99 and £49.99 respectively, with the instruments going on sale by themselves sometime in December. While we all know when we can expect Spore (psst, that's Sept 7th in the US and Sept 5th in Europe), apparently fans will get a small taste of the game before the full retail version ships. A separate, creature-editor edition Spore SKU will be out before the full version. Pricing and exact dates are not known, but the creatures made in this program will be usable in the full retail version to come. We are constantly inundated with stories of games getting their release dates bumped back, but rarely if ever do we hear about something releasing early. In a statement to IGN yesterday, Ubisoft announced that Suda 51's No More Heroes will be coming to the Wii a little over a month early. Originally slated to release Feb. 29, the quirky cel-shaded cousin of Killer 7 is now set to hit store shelves on Jan. 22. The original release date would have pitted No More Heroes against heavy hitter Super Smash Bros. Brawl, so was this a shrewd marketing move on Ubisofts's part, or merely a coincidence? More »

Europe and Japan will see their versions of the Square Enix MMORPG release on April 20. What's the hold up in America? Well, probably that Square Enix is including all three expansions for Final Fantasy XI in the U.S. version, including the new Treasures of Aht Urhgan expansion. The U.S. release is expected April 18.

An editorial over at ManRoom pointed out an interesting fact about the Xbox 360: "the grim reality today is only one new game has been released since the first wave on November 22." So, rather than ask "where the hell are all of the games?" the remainder of the piece looks at what is actually en route for Xbox 360 owners. Unfortunately that stream of titles doesn't really start to trickle in until the middle of February with Full Auto and EA's Fight Night. As Spring gets closer expect to see Far Cry: Instincts Predator and Battlefield 2: Modern Combat head to the 360. It's understandable why there was a dry spell (developers didn't receive final dev kits until a short time before launch) and with two more launches in 2006, it'll be interesting to see how other "launch windows" work.
