Seems to me Kotaku is pulling a Netflix, only not gonna realize the error and keep fucking with stuff. If the lack of shoops is any indication, you dont have to much longer to go till all you have is an active lurker fanbase and zero comments. This is what the third change in about 12 months? 1.site redesign 2."Core" site/comments get mandatory minimums(happened about the same time if im not mistaken) 3.Now channels
Not sure what the end goal is but it sure looks like a lot of segmenting that is probably gonna lead to a breakdown.
Have you guys ever tested your site under Google Chrome? It's... awful. If you scroll through any page, even a little bit, then the links cease to function unless you hit Refresh. Also, things don't line up properly and the sidebar only comes down halfway until you start scrolling through it. #redesign(Edit comment)
Remember me option. I'm sic and tierd of having to log in every 15 min if im inactive on kotaku :/ If the function is already in there then you need to put it somewhere more visible. #redesign(Edit comment)
Can we have an option somewhere to disable this new tendency to link to articles with autoplay turned on? I do not want any embedded videos to start playing automatically, because the majority of the time I'm listening to something else and want to just read about the subject matter and NOT see/hear it. #redesign(Edit comment)
Wait? "Who took your star away this time?" ... I got restarred? To my knowledge I only had the star once and lost it once. Did I miss something?! O.o #speakup(Edit comment)
I have absolutely no idea. Especially if I compare my posts of last week with the one which got me the star in the first place... I made Bash laugh => Star I make all (probably also including Bash) laugh => Nothing #speakup(Edit comment)
For some reason, Kotaku is no longer remembering my layout settings. By default the layout is traditional, but I prefer the blog view. It used to remember this, but now every time I load the site it returns to the default layout setting. Any idea why this is? #redesign(Edit comment)
Im getting this too. really annoying. maybe part of their coding went wrong recently? on an off note, why do they call it "traditional" when "blog view" is our traditional view? #redesign(Edit comment)
Yeah I thought it was something to do with Chrome going crazy but apparently Im not the only one with this issue. Its very annoying especially when I want to back to the main page I have to click the little icon at the top again to go back to blog view. Im not even sure why anyone would want to use the new layout over the blog view. #redesign(Edit comment)
Does anyone else continue to have issues where any and all links are not clickable on the site until you reload? I'm also have a really weird issue as of late between Win7, OS X and Ubuntu where when I initially load kotaku.com, nothing comes up. It always requires a reload as well or else it's just a blank page...
Yeah I've had it happen with Chrome on all 3 platforms. I refuse to use IE but it seems like FF won't be any better. Just glad it's not just me... #speakup(Edit comment)
No issues with loading into a blank page at all? Really odd issue that I can't seem to isolate. Only started over the past few days... #redesign(Edit comment)
I use chrome and I sometimes have problems with the comments in the profile menu not scrolling. Also any video that's posted plays like crap for me. But when I view it on another site it plays just fine. #speakup(Edit comment)
Not an offensive change. heh. The "too short to reply to" change is still the error of the month. Hopefully some of our beautiful people in tech will get to fixing that instead of focusing on little visual flourishes. ;)
I believe in you! Don't let us down! You can fix what someone has broken!
It's hard to believe anyone who isn't drunk and/or high could have approved this "comment too short" thing. It's so obviously flawed in so many ways, and it frustrates the very people who are regular visitors. I already visit #speakup less because of the #redesign. :-(
At least the Skyward Sword hype train hit me hard in the last few days. That screen of the volcano is just insane, and hearing snippets of various reviews trickle out is making me pumped. I need to blast through Professor Layton and the Last Specter and prepare my body, because it is not yet ready. (Edit comment)
For some reason, links become unclickable along the right side of the blog format. I had to manually type Speakup into the address bar to get there. And it doesn't seem to happen all the time, either. Sometimes it lets me check my profile/replies and other times I just can't click it at all. #redesign(Edit comment)
This is due to adblock plus. When you first load into any gawker site, there is an ad space at the top of the right frame. As soon as ABP removes that ad, you can't click on any of the navigation buttons or notifications area. I'm sure there's a filter we can add to ABP to fix that issue, but I haven't discovered it yet. #redesign(Edit comment)
Dear Gawker, this decision to make short comments unreplyable and unpromotable is weird, even now some long comments are considered too short, here one I stumble from open thread.
Edit: Even my comment is considered too short? wait what?
Edit edit: How many words input do I need to enter?
Edit edit edit: This is stupid and strange, my third edit and it still considering my comment are too short.
Edit edit edit edit: ....... what the hell? this is my fourth edit and still the ? sign is still there.
Edit edit edit edit edit: Editing to add bolds
Edit edit edit edit edit edit: This is ridiculous.
I was just in the Red Dead Redemption writer article, and as I started to read it, the text got covered up with a haze of white while an ad for Nova played over the lead image and I got the text: "Your article will start in 5 seconds..."
Are you kidding me? The absolute worst part of the redesign has snuck its way back in? I can understand waiting for a video, but having a video ad for an article? That's just madness, and you know it. That's why Kotaku got rid of those ads within days following the redesign. They should not be back.
Just seeing them turns my stomach and makes me feel like Kotaku is considering moving us back toward the trainwreck the site was like in those initial days of the redesign. It has turned out fine now, but we should not move backwards after so much progress has been made. Hiding the link for Blog View and now this? What is going on?
I am seriously perplexed. Flat ads over the lead image is one thing, but videos that temporarily white out the actual text of the article? That's quite another. Please, if a staff member can explain what is going on, I would appreciate it.
In the face of this outrageousness he has called out upon our ENEMIES and OPPRESSORS, defying them, challenging them, to put an end of this yoke of theirs. He DEMANDS dignity and respect for his people, who are all but powerless against this INJUSTICE.

Comparisons to the Caliphate aside, yeah, you're right, it's extremely annoying. And it's never going to end. They're always making changes, but the implementation is terrible. :( #speakup(Edit comment)
I agree. Whoever decided on that bright idea needs to be punched in the nuts. Several of my commenting threads have been prematurely killed, because someone replies with a comment too short for my to reply to, and thus the discussion in the thread just....dies.... #talkamongstyourselves(Edit comment)
Anybody know what's up with the "play" buttons that have snuck onto Kotaku recently? They appear in random places all over the front page (blog view) and serve no purpose.
They really just need to get rid of those ads on the front page that cover the top story. It always gets stuck there for a good 20 seconds or so when loading the page. #speakup(Edit comment)
Me too. Then it has this error where I can't click anything. My arrow icon never turns into a hand. This is glitch #456 that I've encountered over the last 3 weeks. Hope it starts to get back to normal ... (Edit comment)
Yeah same issue, using google chrome with 'Better Pop-Up Blocker' + 'AdBlock' extensions. Turning off the extensions seems to help, but its still slow and I refuse to surf without them. I have to kill the page cos it just keeps hanging, even though all the content appears to have loaded. Almost locked up my PC the other day due to it thrashing the CPU! #redesign(Edit comment)
I'm having the same issues with and without Adblock+ on the latest version of Google Chrome. I tried clearing my cache twice and then I recently tried turning off Adblock+ and then clearing the cache. No fix. :^/ #kotakueditorialboard(Edit comment)
Hey... Any chance of you knowing of an Ad-Blocker and Flash blocker for Opera? I like the browser but it really slows down sometimes on ad-heavy or flash-heavy sites. #kotakueditorialboard(Edit comment)
Notifications work across all gawker sites. I could be on kotaku and see a notification about a reply someone made to a comment I posted on gizmodo. But when I clear that notification, it doesn't clear that notification across all gawker sites. Is that a bug? It's incredibly annoying to have to open up each site individually just to clear the same notification. #redesign(Edit comment)
I have slight annoying trouble as I'm missing the option to have replies expanded automatically. And I don't seem to be able to find the tickbox option from "options" in my profile... Am I missing some obvious setting here, or is this another "improvement" on the site's design to strip us from the function to choose? #redesign(Edit comment)
